Chapter 2

Author: Stars
Uncle Nigel was nearly 40 and still a virgin. When did people start painting him as some heartless womanizer who fooled around everywhere?

Tina seemed to notice that I didn't believe it, so she pulled out her phone and opened Peyton's social media page.

When I saw the person in the photo, I froze as well.

Uncle Nigel was wearing a sharply tailored suit, standing in front of a luxury car. The person beside him was Peyton.

Peyton had added a caption.

[I'm going out of town for my internship. Dad wouldn't stop worrying, so he insisted on seeing me off. In his eyes, I'll always be the kid who hasn't grown up yet.]

Still confused, I took out my phone and called Uncle Nigel, but all I heard was a cold, automated voice telling me the phone was turned off.

When I didn't respond for a long time, Peyton shot me a vicious look.

"Eunice, just wait! I'll make you regret crossing me."

Sure enough, I experienced Peyton's revenge the very next day.

At the pack’s general assembly, the Alpha announced in front of everyone that Peyton had received this year’s Outstanding Contribution Award, with a bonus of 40 thousand dollars.

Everyone knew those honors should have been mine, but Peyton had snatched them away like it was nothing.

The pack members below the stage looked conflicted, but afraid of getting dragged into trouble, they could only clap in silence.

I couldn't suppress my anger anymore. I stood up abruptly and questioned Matt in front of the entire pack.

"Matt, I'd like to ask what criteria you're using for Outstanding Contribution Award of the year. Over the past year, I've been traveling nonstop to negotiate partnerships for the pack. I closed at least eight or nine major deals and brought in billions in revenue. Peyton has only been here three months and hasn't secured a single deal. On what basis does she deserve the title?"

The room went completely silent, and only Peyton stepped forward.

"Because none of those achievements came honestly.

"You might think you got us all fooled, but I know you got those deals by selling yourself. Our pack absolutely won't allow that kind of behavior.

"You've damaged the pack's reputation. You're lucky Mr. White hasn't exiled you already."

"Don't slander me. Do you have any proof?"

As the tension between us grew thicker, Matt suddenly slammed his hand on the table and shouted, "Enough! This is a conference room, not a place for you to argue."

Then he turned to me with a stern expression.

"Eunice, rumors don't appear out of nowhere. If Peyton dares to say this, there must be some legitimacy to it. I stayed silent earlier to save you some dignity and avoid making things ugly. But if you keep causing trouble, I'll have to reconsider whether you still belong in this pack."

"I'm causing trouble?" My eyes burned red, and my voice trembled.

"Ever since you took over, I've been your Beta, standing by your side and giving everything to support you. In your eyes, am I really just a she-wolf who trades her body for results?

"When I went to remote packs to negotiate deals, I ran into rogues and almost lost my life. And you say I'm causing trouble?

"I work overtime every night, exhausting myself writing proposals. And you say I'm causing trouble?

"Just because of one baseless accusation from her, all my work gets erased, and my deals are labeled shady. Do you honestly think that's fair?"

Matt was left speechless for a moment, but Peyton showed no guilt at all. She looked at me with smug satisfaction.

"Fair?" She let out a mocking laugh. "This world was never fair to begin with. Whoever has power and influence controls the narrative. Instead of making a spectacle of yourself here, you should find out how you can be born into a better family next time."

She didn't bother hiding the contempt on her face. "The Alpha King's my dad. Because of that, you'll never beat me in this lifetime."

The more she talked, the more worked up she became. I honestly couldn't understand where her confidence came from.

Could it be that Uncle Nigel really did have a secret child, just like the rumors said?

I scoffed. "If you're really the Alpha King's daughter, why would you fight me for a title and a bonus? Is it possible that your identity is fake?"

Peyton glared at me viciously. "Mr. White stripped you of your title because you didn't deserve it. I earned mine with my own ability!"

Peyton grew more and more desperate."I really think of the Alpha King as my own father! I respect and admire him. I really didn't mean to trick anyone…"I looked at her with disgust. "You've told lies for so long that you've even convinced yourself."Uncle Nigel showed no mercy, either. "If Eunice hadn't told me, I wouldn't have known you were using my name as my daughter while doing all kinds of terrible things. I've always felt guilty toward children like you. If I hadn't been too late back then, you might still have a happy family of your own. All these years, taking care of you was my way of atoning for that guilt."He paused, then his tone hardened."But I never imagined that while giving you a comfortable life, I neglected your moral upbringing. Now, you even bullied my niece. What you've done is really disappointing. I hope you'll think about your mistakes at the wastelands."Peyton collapsed to the ground, her body twitching as she cried uncontrollably."Alpha King, I

The entire venue instantly fell silent. Except for me, everyone present dropped to their knees toward the Alpha King, not daring to lift their heads.Peyton was especially stunned. I couldn't see her expression, but judging from how violently her body was shaking, I could guess well enough.Uncle Nigel ignored the crowd and walked straight up to me, looking me over carefully."Eunice, are you hurt? If anything happened to you, your dad's going to kill me."Just moments ago, I had been standing alone against everyone. Now, the grievance I had been holding back finally broke loose, and my tears poured out uncontrollably.Uncle Nigel immediately understood what had happened. His expression turned icy."Who bullied my niece?"His cold voice echoed across the airfield. Those who had questioned me, mocked me, and even insulted me earlier didn't dare make a sound now. They wished they could bury their heads in the ground."Pull up the surveillance footage. It seems you Alphas have g

I looked at Peyton and said, "You keep saying you're Uncle Nigel's daughter, but he doesn't even have a partner. How would he have a daughter out of nowhere?"The moment I said that, the entire room exploded."Exactly! If the Alpha King really had a child, how could none of us know about it?""Maybe she's an illegitimate child. I've heard the Alpha King's private life is pretty messy. I wouldn't be surprised if he really had children out of wedlock.""Maybe the mother isn't presentable enough. Otherwise, why would he refuse to acknowledge her?"Peyton's face turned deathly pale as she scrambled to defend herself."I-I'm not an illegitimate child! I am my father's daughter. You all know how brutal royal power struggles are. He just wanted to protect me from getting hurt, so he didn't acknowledge me publicly."What she said did sound somewhat reasonable. Even competition for Alpha positions was filled with conflict, sometimes ending with brothers turning against each other or even

The entire venue fell into a deathly silence. Everyone stared back and forth between Peyton and me."She's claiming that the Alpha King is her uncle. That means she and Peyton are cousins. If that's true, how could they not know each other?""One of them has to be lying."Peyton's face turned paper white, and panic flickered across her expression."That's impossible. She's lying! If you really were my cousin, there's no way I wouldn't know! Eunice, don't think you can fool us by hiring a few actors and bringing out a fake badge. You're just bitter that Matt kicked you out, so you're taking the chance to get revenge on us!"As the situation grew more heated, Matt immediately stepped forward to vouch for Peyton."Eunice has to be lying. She worked as a Beta in my pack for five years. If the Alpha King were really her uncle, why would she be willing to work for me? She's obviously angry that I expelled her and is making this up to damage my pack's reputation. Don't let her deceive y

After completing the formalities to leave the pack, I walked away from the pack I had lived in for five years.Even though this wasn’t my hometown, it was the first place where I had truly fought for my footing after coming of age. I had worked myself to the bone to prove to my parents that I wasn't some sheltered kid who survived on family support. I didn't rely on my family or connections, only on myself. In the end, what I got was being expelled from the pack. As I stood in the empty apartment, I felt as if my heart was being cut apart. Some members came out one by one to see me off, offering words of comfort."Eunice, kicking you out is Mr. White's loss. You're so capable. I'm sure another pack will take you in. Don't take Peyton's words to heart."I just gave a faint smile.Peyton wasn't that powerful. At the airport, I received a call from Uncle Nigel, who had been out of contact for two weeks."There's unrest breaking out in a pack, and I have to step in personally. "So this is the ‘ability’ you’re referring to—shirking duties at work, lacking even basic operational skills, mistaking partner Alphas during negotiations, and costing the pack hundreds of thousands in losses?"Everything I said was true. Peyton's face turned dark, and she immediately looked at Matt with an innocent expression.Matt sat back down, frowned, and rubbed his temples. Finally, he said to me helplessly, "You'll report to the pack's southernmost border region tomorrow. Peyton will temporarily take over the Beta position. When you prove yourself again, I'll transfer you back."The southern branch was the harshest place in the entire pack. The environment was brutal, and because it was close to the borderlands, rogues showed up from time to time. Being sent there was basically the same as exile. But I didn't argue or get angry. I just let out a sarcastic smile. "Fine. I'll leave tomorrow. This Beta position really should go to someone more suitable."After the meeting
