An invisible pull

Kyra found herself standing outside her father-in-law's office building in the Moon's Claws pack. This is the pack of the Alpha king Kaiser Varkas. Dane's uncle and adopted father, and the most powerful wolf ever born. Kaiser is not just a wolf, he is a Lycan. The only pure-blooded Lycan alive. The last one of the Lycan bloodline. Lycans are cursed by a witch to never find their mates. So they were forced to take chosen mates, thus diluting their bloodline.

Kaiser Varkas will not just meet anyone. It would take weeks, if not months to get his appointment. Kyra knows that she might not be able to meet him, but she is desperate. She cannot wait until the day of the banquet. If Dane was announced as the next king, she could not do anything. It would be too late. She would forever lose her pack. Only the Alpha king can help her. All she has to do is make him believe that Dane is cheating on her.

Even though Kaiser is her father-in-law, Kyra only met him once. On the day of her mating ceremony with Dane. Her whole attention was on Dane, so she didn't notice the man clearly that day. So in a way, this is her first proper meeting with him. She contemplated if she should meet him or not. Because if Dane finds out that she went to meet his uncle, things would get messy. She heard that Alpha King Varkas is a fair man. She hoped that he would help her, too.

Unlike a few other packs out there, Moon's Claws pack is modern. Tall skyscrapers, glass and chrome buildings greeted her all around. Kaiser Varkas's office building is one such skyscraper. Huge buildings with wide open balconies which allows the wolf's space to breath were all around her.

"Excuse me, I am Kyra Thorn, I am here to meet Alpha King Varkas," she informed the lady near the front desk. She intentionally used her maiden name.

Kyra expected the lady to turn her away, saying that the Alpha king is busy. But to her surprise, that's not what happened.

"Oh Ms. Thorn, King Alpha is expecting you. This way please," the beautiful lady escorted Kyra towards the elevators. Not the regular elevators meant for the pack members. But the one where the word 'Private' is written in bold letters. This elevator is not small. It's big enough to fit two to three wolves in their beast forms.

As the elevator started ascending to the top floor, Kyra's heart started to pound. The mark on her neck started to feel as if it came back alive again. Anticipation pooled in her stomach, causing her confusion. A surge of excitement bubbled from deep within.

'What the hell? Why am I feeling so excited? Shouldn't I be worried about what I would do if Mr.Varkas refuses to help me?' she thought, feeling confused.

As the elevator doors opened on the top floor, which is exclusively meant for Mr. Varkas, Kyra felt this strange longing and uncontrollable pull towards the only two closed wooden doors standing not too far away. Her feet started moving before her mind could catch up with what was happening. Kyra felt something stir within the untouched and unreachable corner of her mind. She could feel his presence even from outside his cabin. It's thick and imposing.

Her hands pushed the doors open without knocking. Her eyes widened with shock. That was rude to enter without knocking. But who would tell that to her body, which is acting as if an invisible pull is forcing her to move closer.

The moment she stepped inside the huge cabin, his scent hit like a storm. Her senses turned on overdrive. Her feet moved faster towards the man standing with his back facing her. He was standing in front of the huge floor to ceiling glass wall overlooking the pack below like a thunderbolt came back alive.

Kyra was stunned when her arms wrapped around his waist and she hugged him from behind like he was her lover.

'What's happening?' she thought, feeling horrified. To her shock, He didn't push her away. He turned to face her in her embrace. When her gaze finally landed on his face, she gasped. He is handsome, like the most dangerous predator on the planet. His jet black orbs looked darker, his sharp features looked lethal for her sanity. She didn't know men could have this kind of pull over women.

He doesn't look old. He looks just a few years older than Dane, but she knows he is older. Lycan's stop aging after they turn 30. And damn if her girl parts didn't clench with need.

She is breathing heavily. When she registered that she is hugging her father-in-law, immediately she moved away from him.

"I..." before she could apologize, what he said next made her feeze with shock.

"We meet again" his deep tone sent shivers down her spine. As if on queue, the mark on her neck started throbbing.

As her brain finally started catching up, she recognized his scent. She turned paler. He is the man from the other night. The man she gave up her virginity to.

"What have I done?" she murmured with horror.

She was so horrified, that she turned around to flee. But as if anticipating her intent, he grabbed her by her elbow and pulled her back into his embrace.

"You just came, where are you running off to again?" he whispered before he grabbed her by her forearm. He flipped their positions and pressed her body into the glass wall with his own body, invading her personal space.

"I am Dane's mate," she whispered in a weak attempt to remind herself who he is.

He smirked.

"Funny, you didn't seem to remember that when you allowed me to touch you. And moreover, if you are someone else's wife, why are you carrying my mark. And why did you give your virginity to me? You might be his wife in name, but you are mine, my mate in every sense of the word," he declared.

Kyra never expected that the first time she met the Alpha King, it would end up like this.

Just then, a knock sounded on the door, making her jump with fright. If anyone finds them in a compromising position like this, her reputation will be gone.

"Let me go," she whispered with urgency.

"King Alpha? May I come in?" Dane's voice rang from outside.
