Betrayal

Kyra sat in her room alone. Hoping and wishing that last night was just a very bad nightmare. But she knows it's not. Dane and Mona left the packhouse early that morning to catch Kyra in the 'Act'. They even took pack warriors pretending that their Luna is missing. She was watching everything from her room window. But she didn't alert them of her presence. She wanted to make them look like fools.

"Luna? You are here?" one of the Omegas named Lily, who came to clean Kyra's room, gasped with surprise.

"Yes, where else will I be so early in the morning?" Kyra replied gently. Kyra is always gentle with everyone in the pack.

That Omega looked clearly taken aback. The tone Kyra used is not the meek one she always used. Today, she used the Luna tone. The tone filled with authority and grace. A fact which even Kyra didn't notice.

"Alpha was worried that you were missing" the omega replied still looking dazed.

Kyra pretended to be surprised.

"Is it? But I was in my room all this time. I don't think he came to my room this morning. How come such a big misunderstanding occurred?" Kyra pretended to be ignorant. She wanted to yell and slap Dane for his betrayal, but she would lose everything and Dane would portray her as insane. He would still win in that way. So Kyra can only pretend for now. Without a wolf, she is no match for Dane. So she has to plan her next move carefully.

Kyra noticed a strange energy brimming inside her, threatening to break free. She is so overwhelmed with Dane's betrayal, that she ignores the shift. Her focus is sharper, her senses are better, and her energy levels are high. She is feeling stronger despite having a sleepless night.

By the time Dane and Mona returned back empty-handed, Kyra was handling a pack meeting without the Alpha and Beta. She concealed the mark on her neck.

"Luna Kyra, today you look different, more beautiful and more attractive" the neighboring pack Alpha complimented Kyra. Indeed, she looked different. Today, she dressed in the style she loved, not the loose white dresses Dane always insisted she wear. The red dress she is wearing complimented her figure perfectly. It's knee-length and her size. Her eyes, which were a shade of brown, are now a slight shade of green, which she noticed that morning. Her skin looked clearer and brighter, too.

"Thank you, Alpha Ruric" she replied gracefully. She is playing the role of a Luna perfectly, like always.

Just then, Dane and Mona stormed inside the study, looking pissed.

"Dane, where can she be...?" Mona was saying, but she abruptly stopped when she noticed the occupants of the study.

Even Dane looked stunned.

"Kyra? What are you doing here? Where were you last night? Do you know how worried I was?" Dane demanded, playing the doting husband to a 'T'. He even makes his demand sound like a concern.

Kyra looked at him calmly. She glanced at Mona, who was standing behind Dane. She looked as shocked as Dane.

"What are you saying, Dane? Where will I be? I was in my room. Why did you assume that I was missing? Did you stop by my room this morning while I was sleeping?" Kyra questioned calmly, but there was an edge to her tone.

Usually, she would be flustered and a stuttering mess when Dane questioned her directly, his Alpha aura in full force. But today, his Alpha aura did nothing to her. What's more, she could feel her own aura pushing out, but not enough to compete with Dane or Ruric.

Dane is frowning deeply while staring at her with confusion. He found that something is different with Kyra today. But he couldn't pinpoint what exactly. She looked more radiant than ever, breathtaking. As if a cloud obstructing her trueself is vanished.

"Kyra, I couldn't find you anywhere last night," Dane replied. His tone is a little gentle for Ruric's sake. Kyra didn't miss how he glanced at her dress with a frown.

Kyra is trying to suppress her displeasure.

"Then you should have searched for me in my room first, don't you think so? In fact, I couldn't find you anywhere last night. So I came back alone. I was feeling a little out of sorts. You insisted on keeping my phone with you," Kyra replied calmly.

Dane clearly saw her entering that room. But she looked unscathed.

'Did she leave the hotel because that room was empty? What a good plan. But she messed up everything' he thought with displeasure.

"I was chatting with an Alpha. I didn't know you were searching for me. This was all a misunderstanding." Dane easily brushed off such a big fiasco as a mistake.

"Yes, Kyra, Dane was busy. You know how it is. We were planning to make contacts. So Dane was meeting more Alphas. He assumed that you were missing" Mona supported Dane.

Mona never addressed Kyra as 'Luna'. Kyra never thought much about it before. But now, it's quite clear that Mona never considered Kyra as her Luna.

Ruric cleared his throat.

"Alpha Dane, Luna Kyra, I am also sent here to deliver this invitation to the Alpha and Luna of the Silvershade pack. Every year, the Alpha king hosts this banquet to give all the packs a chance to mingle with each other. It was said that the Alpha king might even announce his next successor in this banquet." Ruric pushed the rich-looking invitation. Dane and Kyra's names were etched on a golden leaf which was in the middle of the invitation. Looking at Dane's name beside hers made Kyra feel bitter.

Usually, Dane prefers to attend these banquets alone with his 'Beta' by his side.

'I am protecting you. I cannot bear it if anyone insults you as a wolfless Omega. It's better if I go alone,' Dane used to explain.

Like an idiot, Kyra used to believe his lies.

'This time, I need to attend this banquet. I need to make connections' she decided.

The fact that the Alpha king is Dane's uncle and adopted father might actually work in Dane's favour. If what Alpha Ruric said is true, then Dane might be announced as the next Alpha king.

'If that happens, I can never get my pack back. I need to do something' she decided.
