Against her wishes, her uncle pressures her into a marriage with Severin de Rosa, son of the Blazing Winter pack's Alpha. But Kasumi's plans are thrown into disarray when she discovers that her Alpha mate, Thaddeus de Rosa, is in fact the Alpha of the Blazing Winter pack and secretly desires her. To further complicate matters, Thaddeus's twin brother, Theodore de Rosa, also claims Kasumi as his mate. And just when she thought things couldn't get any more complicated, Kasumi finds herself attracting the attention of their uncle, Cretheus de Rosa, who could jeopardize her relationships with the twin brothers and her husband. Caught in a tangled web of desire and duty, Kasumi must navigate a precarious path to keep the peace between the packs. How can she avoid conflict when everyone but her Alpha mate's son has designs on her? Lihat lebih banyakI was told that being in front of the Moon Goddess' altar with your mate was supposed to be the most joyous moment of your existence. It was said to elevate you to the highest summit of a mountain, impervious to any natural calamities that might occur.
"Lord Severin de Rosa, do you take Lady Kasumi Azai to be your wife, to share in all of life's joys and sorrows, to be your faithful and loving companion, now and forevermore?"
But how did I end up in a circumstance where I had to marry someone who wasn't my mate?
"I do, Your Eminence."
Gripping the flower bouquet to a tight recoil from Severin's reply to Priest Paule's question was enough to shatter my whole being. It was as intense as a hurricane that destroyed a whole town and as impenetrable as the brick wall.
"And to you, Lady Kasumi Azai..."
As my name was being called, my heart beat furiously in my chest as though it wanted to break free and shatter into pieces.
How did I end up being used as a pawn in a political marriage to bring an end to the cold war between my pack, the Red Sun, and the opposing Blazing Winter pack?
"Do you take Lord Severin de Rosa to be your husband, to share in all of life's joys and sorrows, to be your faithful and loving companion, now and forevermore?"
Why did I become the bridge leading me to a doom of misery and agony? Why couldn't I run from this responsibility?
How did I end up in this situation? Where did it all begin?
"I do, Your Eminence," I said, breathless.
I hid my emotions under my eyelids, thanks to the veil that helped me to shield this despair that would gradually poison me.
It was irrevocable, with no salvation to be given.
"You may now kiss the bride."
Severin lifted the veil with a slight hastiness, piercing me with a gaze of spitefulness, silently indicating that he and I would never get along.
I almost scoffed at that sight. If he was disgusted with my presence, then so I was.
"Let's get this over with. Tsk."
It was a very low whisper from him, but I caught on to it with my sensitive hearing, one of the advantages of being a werewolf. I almost thwacked the bouquet to his arrogant, handsome face, but it took a lot of courage not to do so.
"Bastard..." I muttered.
When his face was slightly closed to me, I heard a faint growl that staggered me. A slight growl came from the aisle.
It came from the audience as I felt a penetrating gaze from that direction while my wolf whispered a word that still startled me every time I heard it echoing.
I did not get a chance to look back when Severin nipped my chin using his forefinger and thumb, coercing me to look at him before his rosy lips plummeted to capture my lips. My eyes widened, clutching his wrist to pull his hand away from me.
I thought that he would compel me to deepen the kiss, but Severin, as fast as a lightning bolt, stepped back as if he was burned from me. And I was in disbelief when I caught him wiping his lips with the back of his hand.
"Congratulations to our newlyweds, Lord Severin and Lady Kasumi de Rosa!"
That distracted me when I almost confronted Severin by acting so disgusted at our kiss, and I should be the one who had done that.
Severin and I faced our guests, who were bestowing us a round of applause. On the right side of the aisle, my chest tightened and squeezed to the maximum when I met my uncle's gaze with a smirk plastering on his lips.
Meeting his gaze was enough for me to recall everything he did—killing my father, Hideyoshi Azai, who was the former Alpha of the Red Sun pack, taking over our pack with cruelty, stripping my rights as the heiress of the Azai Clan and as the next Alpha of our pack, and marrying off to the son of the hostile pack.
Him...
Hajime Azai...
He was the reason why I was being tormented like this.
My uncle... My blood relative... He betrayed my father's trust.
"Run, sugarplum..." Father's meek words harked back to my mind. "Run..."
I could still remember the hoarseness of his voice with a faint of firmness, pushing me away while he was bathing with his blood. I remembered how useless I was, how my body was heavy, aching in every corner.
I only found myself being dragged away from his cadaver while pouring my hopelessness and regret. I did not do what he promised. I was... incompetent.
Father, please forgive me, for I did not heed your wishes. I was still holding that I could still take back what truly belonged to me.
"Long live the newlyweds!"
I snapped back when the crowd cheered again for the wedding of Severin and me. I could feel the tension in my stomach about to burst out, but I felt a series of spine-chilling when my wolf whispered a word.
'Mate.'
My eyes instantly looked for that person since my wolf had kept resounding that word in my head since earlier. I looked for it and met a pair of sapphire blue eyes belonging to a familiar man in his 30s sitting near the front aisle who had firm, intense eye contact with me.
My heart sank upon seeing that familiar sculpted, robust build and pursed rose-colored cupid lips scream power and dominance that I almost fell to my knees. It almost took my breath away just by seeing him.
It was him.
Thaddeus de Rosa, Severin's father.
He was not like any man I had ever encountered before. There was something about him that made my skin crawl. I tried to convince myself that he was just a nobody, but deep down, I knew that wasn't the case.
He was the Alpha of the Blazing Winter pack—the same pack that had terrorized our pack for years.
And then, it hit me like a ton of bricks.
Thaddeus was not only the father of my husband, but also my father-in-law.
But that wasn't the worst part.
It was a harsh realization that Thaddeus de Rosa was destined to be my mate, but I had already been promised to his son.
And this was the cruel twist of fate orchestrated by the Moon Goddess, which I couldn't ignore from now on.
Staring at the full moon, drowned in its beauty, bathed in its silver light, I still hear their voices echoing in my memory. That night, in the clearing where the stars leaned low and the world hushed to listen, my three mates had asked Mother and Father for my hand. My heart had soared, my tears had fallen, and in their vows, I had found home. Now, years later, the memory is as clear as moonlight, but the present is brighter still.Laughter rung through the courtyard, causing me to snap back to reality. I looked down at the pages of the photo album that were opened, where it was the four of us while I was showing the engagement ring they had personally crafted for me, reminiscing to those times. I gently closed it and returned it to the bookshelves before storming out of the library.Giggles echoed as my feet brought my to the courtyard. Then I saw our two daughters, Tatiana and Catalina, in their five-year-old, dart between the lantern-lit trees, their small feet pattering against
"Father!" I exclaimed happily and couldn't contain my joy as I ran towards him.Father chuckled softly and pulled me into his embrace. He was dressed in pure white, his spirit form glowing faintly. Even like this, I could still feel the same warmth I had cherished when he was alive. He told me he had been watching over me through all my hardships in the mortal realm. The moment our eyes met again, the dam of my emotions broke. I clung to him, sobbing, while he held me tightly, whispering apologies for not being able to protect me from our clan.Regret weighed heavily in his voice, but I reminded him of the countless things he had done for me and how he shielded my true identity and stood his ground against my uncle."Oh, my beloved daughter! I am so proud of you!" Father's voice cracked as we finally pulled apart. He cupped my cheeks with such tenderness, his eyes glistening. "Look at you, mija. You've grown so much. You're the image of your mother now... brave and intelligent."His w
As we arrived in the Blazing Winter Pack, I was greeted by our fellow pack members, who were happy that I had gotten the title I deserved for myself and for Thaddeus' pack. My three mates let me be alone with them as I chattered to the rest of the pack members, thanking them for greeting me.We were only interrupted when Cretheus said that I had visitors waiting in the parlor room. Bewildered, I followed him while his hand was intertwined with mine."Are you not really going to tell me who the visitors are, my valiant?" I asked tenderly as Cretheus began to rain kisses on the back of my hand.He smiled sheepishly. "You'll see soon." He winked as we went to the parlor room."Congratulations, sister!"As soon as the door opened, I was greeted by my four older sisters named Isabella, Novalie, Seraphina, and Dominixe. They hugged me as soon as they saw me, causing me to giggle and hug them back."Thank you, older sisters!" I said, feeling more at home now that they were also here. When we
Six months later...The wind was sharper in the highlands where the Knight Faction trained. The cold no longer bit into my bones the way it used to. Or maybe I had simply changed enough to stop feeling it.The scent of pine and steel replaced the blood and smoke of the Azai Clan's downfall. The memories still lingered. Some days heavier than others, but the screams had faded. My hands no longer trembled when I looked at them.Today, they bore calluses from sword drills, not blood.A horn blew in the distance, signaling the end of the graduation ceremony. I stood a little straighter as my name echoed across the stone courtyard one last time. "Knight Kasumi Azai." Applause followed, polite but distant. The others were clapping for tradition. For honor. For rank. But the three men standing near the outer edge of the circle—Thaddeus, Theodore, and Cretheus—clapped for me. Their actions were enough to make my wolf squirm at how they were supportive of my achievement today.I waved my hand
My eyes wouldn't leave Uncle Hajime as I was walking towards him with a bloodlust flowing inside my body. The pain of seeing my father flashing before my eyes made me want to end his life as soon as possible."Come on, my little niece." Uncle Hajime smiled. "I'm sure that you can spare me. I have spent my entire life supporting you." He fluttered his eyelids, looking at me innocently. "After all, it was the other four elders who had told me to bring disaster to Hideyoshi and to you. I am only following their orders.""You asshole, Hajime!" Pops shouted angrily while in pain.I clenched my hands, facing him, preparing myself to attack him. "Forgive me, uncle. But I know very well how you envy my father," I said bitterly. "How he stole your glory... or must I say," I paused and stared at him. "He was always a befitting Alpha of the Red Sun Pack, not you, a coward brother of his."I would never forget how Father died in front of me. I would never forget who had him killed. Everything. I
My fingers twitched, longing for the feel of a blade. My lips trembled with the rage I'd caged for too long before they finally stretched into an empty, cold smile. "You really knew how to get on my nerves, huh?" I whispered, the words thick with venom. "You never fail at all."A flicker of something—was it satisfaction?—flashed in Uncle Hajime's eyes, but he didn't speak.Cretheus stepped closer to me, close enough for his heat to calm the tremble in my limbs, but not enough to hold me back. He knew this wasn't his fight to lead. This was mine.I drew in a few steadying breaths before meeting their eyes with quiet resolve. "Worry not, Uncle," I said with a faint smile. "Bringing ruin to the Azai Clan was always part of my destiny, just as I vowed in the heart of the Adamantine Volcano."I gave a mock curtsy, the gesture laced with icy grace. "As a deity, I, Kasumi, Goddess of Gallant and Retribution, intend to keep that promise."Some people lurking in the dark shifted, and in the b
