CHAPTER 1: The Day Shit Hit The Fan
Allison's POV I never thought I'd live to see the day I'll catch my own husband fucking another lady…! The automatic doors of ‘SuperMart’ hissed shut behind me, cutting off the blast of chilly air conditioning. I shifted the heavy grocery bags in my arms and sighed. “You know, kiddo,” I said to the little guy struggling with a bag full of his favorite dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets. “I never thought my life would come to this.” Theo, my five-year-old, looked up at me, his big serious eyes a perfect copy of his father’s. “What, Mommy? Buying nuggets?” I laughed genuinely. “No, baby. Something else. Something… darker.” He just blinked, not getting it. Of course he didn’t. He was perfect.. a perfect handsome little copy of Derek, right down to the stubborn set of his jaw. The future Alpha of the New York pack, everyone said.. my greatest achievement. My smile faded as I thought about his father.. my husband and my mate. The word felt like a joke now! When I married Derek Boyega, it was all grand passion and epic movie-style love. I genuinely believed our bond was this unbreakable magical thing. Love conquers all, right? Yeah, tell that to the iceberg that sank the Titanic..! After the wedding, he just… cooled down like an engine after a long drive but it never started up again. I figured, okay, we’re settling in. Then Theo came along, this amazing perfect little boy. I thought, This is it! This will bring us back together! But instead of a bridge, Theo became this tiny wonderful island that I lived on, and Derek just visited occasionally from the mainland of wherever his head was at. “Mommy, why are we just standing here?” Theo asked, his small voice pulling me out of my head. “The ice cream’s gonna melt.” “You’re right, my little alpha,” I said, ruffling his soft hair with my free hand. “Let’s blow this popsicle stand.” We loaded up my sensible SUV... the one Derek bought because it was ‘safe and practical,’ unlike my old fun convertible... and drove home. Our house was this huge modern thing on a ridiculously fancy street. It looked like a museum and it never really felt like a home. The second I pushed the front door open, I knew. Call it mate intuition or just the intuition of a woman who knows when her house has been violated. The air was wrong… It smelled… floral and not like my lilies. Then I saw it. A lacy black bra just tossed over the back of the white sofa like a flag of conquest and a pair of red panties on the floor near the staircase. My blood immediately went cold. And then I heard it from upstairs.. a low groan I knew all too well followed by a high dramatical moan that I definitely did not know. “Mommy?” Theo’s voice was small behind me. My mind went into emergency mode. Code Red! Mommy needs to handle this. “Theo, baby!” I said with my voice an octave too high. “I forgot the… the chocolate syrup! For the ice cream! Can you be a huge hero and run back to the car to see if it rolled under the seat?” His eyes got wide like he was going on a mission. “I’ll find it!” he declared and darted back out the front door, slamming it behind him. The coast was clear. Now it was just me, the traitorous underwear and the sounds of my husband enthusiastically cheating on me. I walked up the stairs like I was in a horror movie and each step creaked with a little drumroll for the shitshow awaiting me. The master bedroom door was ajar and so I pushed it open. And there he was. Derek.. my husband and my mate of five years.. bare-assed naked with muscles straining, ramming himself into some red haired woman on our bed! He was groaning and lost in it. She had her legs locked around his back, her head thrown back, moaning like a five-dollar whore in a low-budget movie. I just stood there, frozen as my brain refused to process it. “Derek?” The word came out as a strangled whisper. To my absolute astonishment, he heard me. His head turned and he didn’t jump. He didn’t even look shocked. He didn’t even stop. He just… looked at me. His eyes locked on mine so cold and dark and he gave a few more hard deliberate thrusts, staring right at me the whole time until he groaned and collapsed onto her, shooting his load and creampie-ing her. The wet, sucking sound as he pulled his dick out of her made my stomach lurch. The red hair... who was now also staring at me... smirked. The bitch actually smirked! That’s when I lost it and the dam broke! “What the HELL, Derek?” I screamed, tears already blurring my vision. “What is this? Who is that? In our bed! Are you insane?” They just… ignored me like I was a mildly annoying fly. They untangled themselves with a chilling casualness. Derek pulled on a black silk robe and the woman... who had the audacity to have a perfect body... wrapped herself in my white one.. my fucking robe! “How could you?” I sobbed, my anger and humiliation bubbling over. “I’m your mate! I’m your wife!” Derek finally looked at me, with his expression as cold as stone. “Not anymore, Allison.” The words stung sharply and I stopped crying, stunned into silence. “I’m rejecting you as my mate,” he said, his voice flat. “And I’ll be filing for divorce. It’s over. I've found someone better, Victoria here's my new mate.” “You… you can’t just…” I stammered, my world crumbling. “What about Theo? What about our family?!” The red hair spoke up and her voice was like poisoned honey. “He’s made his choice, darling. Be a good girl and don’t make a scene.” “You stay out of this, you… you mattress!” I yelled, pointing a shaking finger at her. “The scene is already made, Allison,” Derek said dismissively. “I want you out. Now. Pack a bag and leave or I will have you physically removed from my house.” My house.. not our house?! The finality in his voice broke the last of my resolve. Numb choking on tears I couldn’t cry anymore, I stumbled into our walk-in closet.. his walk-in closet. I grabbed a duffel bag and just started shoving things in blindly and angrily. Jeans.. shirts.. underwear. My hands were shaking. Theo.. I had to get Theo’s things. I had to get my baby and get out of this nightmare. I turned to leave the room and head to his bedroom, and there he was. My little boy was standing in the doorway of the master bedroom holding a bottle of chocolate syrup. He must have come back in. “Theo, baby,” I said with my voice cracking with relief. “Mommy’s sorry, we have to...” He walked right past me and he didn’t even look at me! His eyes were… glassy and unfocused like he was sleepwalking as he walked straight across the room, past his father and went directly to the red hair, Victoria, who was now sitting on the edge of the ruined bed. He clung to her leg, burying his face in the white robe and then he looked up at her with a sweet adoring smile... the same smile he gave me every morning. “Mommy,” he said. “I found the syrup..!”CHAPTER 4: A Shot of ConfidenceAllison's POVHe looked like he’d just seen a ghost.. my ghost. A slow cold smile touched my lips. This was too good.“Be careful, Derek Boyega,” I said, my voice cutting through the corporate murmur. “You look like you just shit your pants.”A wave of low rumbling chuckles traveled around the huge table. Executives and investors, all men who thought they were sharks were now laughing at my joke. At his expense.Derek’s head snapped toward the sound, his famous temper flashing in his eyes as he gave them all a furious glare. It was like music to me. He finally slumped into a seat with his whole body tense with confusion. Mission accomplished.I let myself enjoy it for exactly three more seconds enjoying the satisfaction of seeing him so thrown.. so completely off his game. Then I pushed him out of my mind. He was a relic.. today was about the future.“Now,” I said, clicking the button for my presentation. “Let’s talk about unbreakable code.”***An hou
CHAPTER 3: A Scent on the WindAllison's POVI picked up the pace, my heart starting to pound against my ribs.. not from fear, not yet. It was from pure rage. Was I not allowed one single minute to fall apart in peace? Was the universe this much of a dick? The footsteps sped up to match mine and then the smell hit me clearly.. unwashed bodies, alcohol and the distinct feral musk of rogue wolf and not one.. multiple.Oh, hell no!I stopped dead. Screw this..! I was done running. I spun around, facing the darkness with my voice in a low snarl. “Alright, you creepy bastard! If you're gonna follow me, how about you get out here and do it like men! Or are you just into watching?”For a second, nothing. Then the shadows moved revealing three figures. They slunk out onto the road like the mangy mutts they were with dirty jeans, grimy shirts and eyes glowing with a drunk mean hunger.“Well, well.” the one in the middle slurred, a nasty grin spreading across his face. “Looks like we got ours
CHAPTER 2: The Long, Dark Road to NowhereAllison's POVFor a second, the world just… stopped and the sound of my own heart screaming in my ears was the only thing I could hear.Theo. My baby. My whole world. He was hugging her leg and did he just called her Mommy?!He hadn’t even looked at me.My brain scrambled, trying to find a logical explanation where there was none. This wasn't just my husband banging some red hair in our bed. This was something else.l entirely.. This had to be dark fucked-up magic!“Theo?” The word came out as a broken whisper and I cleared my throat, forcing strength I didn’t have into my voice. “Baby, come to Mommy.”He finally looked over at me and my hope shattered..! His little face, usually so full of light and love for me, was blank. Worse than blank. It was confused and wary like I was a stranger who’d just yelled at him.He buried his face deeper into Victoria’s thigh. Her hand came down, stroking his hair with a possessiveness that made my wolf snarl
