Hope or disappointment?

I’m still reeling from the shock of realizing the man in front of me is the Moon Goddess’s chosen mate for me, the Alpha of a powerful pack. The country’s Deadliest Pack Silverblade, a formidable force in weapons manufacturing and high-tech security, with a renowned warrior-training system, now had its leader as my mate? It felt unreal.

A whirl of emotions swirled inside me: excitement,

fear,

desperation.

Maybe coming to the Silverblade pack wasn’t such a bad idea after all. My stepfather would think twice about chasing me here. If I could just persuade my mate to let me join his pack, I could settle down, perhaps even build a future with him, a small family I’ve never had.

But he gave no sign that he was willing to acknowledged the mate bond between us. And that was odd. I know how the mate bond works among werewolves: your mate is your fated one, like a soulmate. It’s incredibly hard to resist that pull.

“If you let me stay, I’ll prove my worth and be loyal to your pack,” I murmured, gathering my thoughts.

“Prove your worth?” he asked, the skepticism dripping from his voice.

“Yes, I have nothing to hide. I’m here with a clean slate.” I stared anywhere but his eyes; they seemed to see straight through me, and that unsettled me.

“And why should I trust you?” he pressed, his piercing blue eyes narrowing.

“You appeared out of nowhere with no affiliation to any pack. No prior notice or letter from any Alpha. You’re rogue. You deserve execution for trespassing into my territory.”

Execution? That felt far too harsh, but I pressed on anyway. I’m desperate to convince him.

“Please, I mean no harm. I’ve heard about your warrior training program. I’m here to participate in it. I want to learn, to fight, to protect.”

The Alpha’s expression didn’t change, but I caught a flicker in his eyes—curiosity?

“The warrior training program is usually through selection of worthy participants, and you pay for it,” he said, unyielding. “But you came here with no application. Obviously you haven’t paid for the program either. What gave you the nerve to barge into my territory and expect me to let you in?”

My eyes locked on his, a spark of defiance lighting inside me.

“I came because I had nowhere else to go. Werewolves are supposed to be in packs. I can’t wander among humans. I heard Silverblade values strength and loyalty, so I came. I want to be part of a pack like this.”

The Alpha’s gaze stayed steady, but I felt a faint flicker of something—interest? annoyance? I wasn’t sure.

“Just like that? Just because you want to join my pack, a pack I built with a tight fist?” he asked, his voice low and smooth. “Because I happened to find you to be my mate?” His tone dripped with disdain. “I don’t need a mate, and I will never want one.”

It felt like a slap. His words cut deep, but I refused to back down. “I’m not asking for pity about our supposed bond,” I said, gripping my side, my voice steady, “I’m asking for a chance to prove myself here. I came without harming anyone.”

The Alpha studied me for what felt like eternity, his eyes boring into my soul, trying to gauge me.

“We’ll decide your punishment at dawn. And you can go back to wherever you came from,” he said bluntly, turning to leave.

“Wait!” I called, my voice cracking. “What’s your name? Don’t I get to know the name of the Alpha who’s deciding my fate?”

He paused at the doorway, shoulders tense.

“Gabriel. Alpha Gabriel Grayson of Silverblade.” And with that, he left, not glancing back.

The cell door creaked shut, sealing the sinking feeling in my chest. Gabriel. Alpha Gabriel Grayson of Silverblade. I whispered the name in my mind, trying to make sense of the storm of emotions inside me.

I paced the cell, my footsteps echoing in the oppressive silence. How could he not want the mate bond? Didn’t he sense how strong the pull between us was?

I slouched against the stone wall, already exhausted. His presence lingered in the air like a shadow that refused to fade. Gabriel. Alpha of Silverblade. My mate.

The memory of his look detached, almost uninterested, as if I were a nuisance to be solved still stung. Yet I’d also seen that faint spark of curiosity in his eyes.

Why did he hate the mate bond so much? What happened to him?

Hours dragged on, each one a reminder of my uncertain fate. Would Gabriel let me stay? Would he send me away? Would I ever see him again?

I thought of Carson and Lisa and hoped they were safe back home. Tears prickled at my eyes as I remembered their kindness, Lisa’s hug, Carson’s warm smile. I’d promised them I’d be okay, that I’d find a way to move forward.

And I had found Silverblade... but at what cost?

Gabriel’s words still cut deep: “I don’t need a mate, and I will never want one.” The cold edge of his voice lingered, fueling my anger and heartbreak.

My wolf, Val, whimpered softly in the corner of my mind. She, too, was worn thin from our journey, and my pain didn’t help.

What hurt most was the way Gabriel looked at me, like I’d stepped into his life uninvited and was just a problem to be solved. The indifference in his eyes felt like a brutal slap, making me question my worth; I’d never been wanted before.

Night fell deeper, and darkness swallowed me whole as I curled up on the cold floor, hunger gnawing at my stomach.

Exhaustion and despair finally took over, and I drifted into a fitful sleep.

Hours later, the cold stone floor seemed to seep into my bones. I woke weak and sick, hunger clawing at me from within. I tried to sit up, but dizziness swirled. Footsteps echoed down the corridor, growing louder with each moment. The cell door creaked open, and a guard stood in the doorway.

“Alpha Gabriel is calling for you,” he announced firmly.

My stomach twisted as I struggled to stand, my legs weak from hunger and exhaustion. What would Gabriel want? Has my fate been decided?

As I followed the guard out of the cell, my mind wandered to how I’d ended up here, two weeks of careful planning, a desperate escape from my stepfather’s abuse, and now the Silverblade pack’s cells, at the mercy of a man who didn’t want a mate.

~Elvira~ The white cotton dress I had put on felt thin against my skin, a stark contrast to the humid air of the full moon night. I pulled my lushly brown hair into a tight ponytail, my fingers trembling slightly as I secured the band. This was the night that would change everything, the moon hung like a giant unblinking eye in the sky, washing the world in a pale, milky glow, looking back since I arrived Silverblade pack, I think I have achieved something, it may not be exactly all I came for but it was something. I had registered for the warrior training program to start soon, Gabriel and I are getting along somehow better than my first week here and there's Selene to help me with my mystery powers. I was on track to get my revenge. I stepped onto the porch and nearly collided with soft warm body "Elvira! I was just coming to haul you out of there." Neolla was marching toward the porch, her boots thudding against the gravel. She looked like she was vibrating w

~Elvira~ For five hours, the world had shrunk down to the space between my inhales and exhales. Selene sat across from me, her eyes tracking the way my chest rose and fell. “Stop fighting for it,” Selene murmured, “Your energy isn't something you have to fight down. It’s already there, sitting at your core like a sleeping ember. Just breathe into it. Deep. Let the air touch the base of your spine.” I followed her lead, pulling in a long, slow breath. I didn't think about anything. I zeroed my mind. I just felt the cool air move through my throat, filling my lungs until they felt tight. “Good. Now, hold it. Feel the weight of it. Then let it out like you’re releasing a bird.” As I exhaled, the tension that had been coiled in my shoulders began to unravel, the heavy pressure behind my eyes finally eased. “You’re getting it,” Selene said, her posture relaxing for the first time all afternoon. “Control isn't just about a leash on yourself. It’s about getting to know

~Elvira~ “Not all bad?” Silas questioned incredulously. He leaned across the prep table, his shadow stretching long over the kitchen tile, then looked at me, his dark eyes had a warning that went deeper than words. “Be careful around them, child. A wolf knows where his ally stands, but a witch doesn't, they only go where serves them the most. They don't form lasting treaties and they can unravel you from the inside out.” I rubbed my bare wrist. The skin was still tender where the wooden beads had lived for the past few months. “But Alpha Gabriel invited her here himself. He is not a fool and he isn't a man who makes mistakes. He knows exactly where Selene's loyalty is, right?” I asked. Silas wiped his hands on his apron, “And that is the only reason this kitchen isn't a war zone. Everyone is silent. We are tolerant because she is the Alpha’s guest. But I heard...” He cut himself off, his eyes darting toward Neolla. The air in the room seemed to freeze. Neol

~Elvira~ “I don't even know how to start,” I said, my voice rising as I paced the length of the kitchen. I was ranting, the words spilling out of me like a broken dam. Silas, Neolla, Aria and Lisa were all there, huddled around the prep table. They had gathered the second I walked in, their eyes wide and hungry for news about the hearing. I told them everything. I told them how the Elders had looked at me ready to find me guilty, and how, to my absolute shock, Gabriel had stood up for me. “He didn't just defend me,” I whispered, stopping to show them my bare arm. “He broke the wooden beads himself. He ripped them right off my wrist.” The silence that followed was heavy with disbelief. Silas leaned back, his massive chest heaving as he stared at my reddened, bare skin. Without the wooden bracelet acting as a dampener to my powers, my pulse felt like a drumbeat in my ears, raw and unshielded Neolla stepped into the light of the kitchen, her expression softer than u

  • Beyond Chosen: The Alpha's Fated Mate    Finally Freed From The Dampener

~Elvira~ “Neolla! There you are, I have good news !” I called out, my voice nearly lost in the noise of young warriors sparing on the training grounds. Neolla was leaning over a wooden table, her thumb flying across the screen of a tablet as she barked orders to a young warrior. She looked every bit the high-ranking soldier—her hair pulled back into a tight, practical braid, her face smudged with soot and grit. She looked up, her sharp eyes softened the moment they landed on me. “Really?” she asked, passing the tablet off. She wiped her forehead with the back of her hand and led me toward the edge of the field, “What’s the good news? You look like you’ve actually swallowed a bit of sunshine for once.” I took a shaky breath. I wanted to feel the excitement I was about to describe. I needed to believe it. “Gabriel said I’ll be joining the pack tomorrow. At the full moon. The initiation is actually going to happen.” Neolla’s jaw dropped. The tough, battle-hardened warr

  • Beyond Chosen: The Alpha's Fated Mate    The boy who watched his world burn

~Elvira~ “Alpha Gabriel, the Elders are asking for an urgent meeting,” a guard reported, his voice tight with tension. Gabriel stopped in his tracks, his entire body stiffening. The air in the room seemed to drop several degrees. He didn't have to ask what it was about; we all knew. The news of what I had done to Vanessa had spread through the mansion like a wildfire. “I am positive it’s about Vanessa’s case,” Gabriel said, his voice low and dangerous. “It’s time I put those old men in their place.” He jstormed out of the living room with the guard following closely behind. I had stopped eating the moment the guard entered. I felt a familiar wave of dread washing over me. Every time things seemed to settle, a new storm rolled in. Mrs. Grayson reached across the table and held my hand softly. Her skin was thin and papery, but her grip was steady. “Don’t worry, child,” she said, her eyes searching mine. “Gabriel will handle it. He may not be open to accepting the mat
