11. Desperation & Morality*

Scott's Pov

What I said standing from the sofa, I wanted to say something but my brain had turned mush and my mouth couldn't form any words, I was too shocked to utter a single word ”

Yes you heard me Scott I want you to marry my only daughter Valarie he said standing up as well ” for a moment I thought he was joking but then all of those thoughts flew out of the window when read his facial expression, the man was dead serious ”

Uncle I said looking at him but his face told me he already knew what Walter was proposing ”

Uncle you know damn well how I feel about marriage!! I said angry my eyes burning red with rage, without wasting anytime I headed straight for the door, I couldn't believe I drove all this way for this nonsense"

Angry I headed straight to the door, I was about to twist the door nob open when uncle blocked my hand

Uncle please move I said frustrated

Before you leave Scott you should know started Walter, you should know that you can always divorce if a year has ended and you haven't fallen in love with her, but I'll doubt it will come to that he said looking at me

You should consider the contract, you've got nothing to lose but a lot to gain from it he said ”

He's right Scott you have nothing to lose fo signing this contract, but either way the choice is yours to make said uncle removing his hand from the door as if saying I can leave if I want to ”

Does Valarie know about this I asked looking at her father ”

No she doesn't and she can never find out about it, it's a secret, I have made it a condition in the contract and you cannot break it, ever said Walter looking at me sternly

What makes you think she'll agree to marry me if I remember correctly she hates me I said looking at them

Leave that to me said Walter as if he had something in his mind

I took a deep breath and went to sit back on sofa, it seemed that I wasn't the only one about to fall into a trap,by the look of things I was sure that Walter was planning something to trick his daughter into marriage ”

I looked at the time on my watch and then at the contract, I had to accept that I had ran out of options, I was desperate and if I could sell my soul I would but this was the only way ”

Never in my life had I ever thought I would end up doing something as despicable as this, but desperation brings a man to his knees

Every bone in my body knew that what I was about to do was wrong, it wasn't just lying anymore, it was deception ”

With a shaking hand I took the pen and forced myself to sign the marriage contract, I felt all morality fly out of the window as I did

You made the right choice I heard my uncle say as I dropped the pen on the table"

I'll send you the copy of the contract if you need to go through it I heard Walter say as I opened the door" I didn't answer him I didn't have the strength to, and so with that I left without saying another word

I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding as I came outside the mansion"

After this I was never going to be able to look at myself in the mirror, I could say the opposite about my uncle and Walter

While Walter was doing it for the love he had for his daughter, uncle Winston was doing it for the sake of friendship but what about me...  what  was my reason" desperation
