Beyond My Husband's Lies

Valarie's Pov 

With a blurry vision I woke up to the sound of beeping machine"

I lifted my arm to see an IV tube attached to my flash" I looked around my surroundings only to realize I was inside a hospital room 

My eyes moved to my parents Walter & Cynthia Blackrose who sat worriedly on the hospital sofa not far from me" you're awake said my mother with relief on her face as she rushed next to my bed 

Walter" call the doctor our baby is awake she said with tears in her eyes looking at my father who rushed outside the room and came back with the doctor

Dr Bennett is my daughter going to be alright asked my father looking at me worriedly ”

What happened" I asked dizzy but I don't think they heard me as their attention was fixed on the doctor who was busy examining me

The accident I muttered shocked as everything started to come back slowly" 

I remembered that before the accident I was in a car with Mason he was the one driving and I sat on the passager's seat next to him, I remember that he was taking me home after our engagement party that was a surprise, although we had been together for three years I hadn't really expected him to propose"

I also remember that the moment I said yes and let him slip the ring into my finger his secretary Amanda Jones' who I despised stepped forward and claimed in front of everyone that she was pregnant with his child, I was beyond shocked ”

But when I confronted him about it he reassured me that Amanda was trying to ruin him by lying because she was angry that he had fired her when he found out she was embezzling money from his company, I chose to believe that Amanda was lying because the was no way what she was saying could be true" I had known Mason for three years and he has never hurt a fly, and what also gave me more reason to believe him was that I had never liked Amanda, I always got the feeling that she was a two faced witch” and because of the scene caused by her on the most important day of my life I was starting to believe that ”

After the spoiled evening we decided to head home and that was when we met with the accident, I blamed myself because I kept arguing with him, asking him why he hasn't fire Amanda when I had asked him to, because all of this could have been avoided 

And now we were both in hospital and I didn't even know if he was alive

Mom' where's Mason?  I asked looking at them but instead of answering me they both gave each other strange looks 

Mom' dad what's going on where's Mason I asked looking at them again but neither of them were answering me" I tried to get up but my legs weren't working 

What's going on why can't I feel my legs I asked panicking" Valarie I'm going to need you to stay calm everything is going to be alright said the doctor with a reassuring look that made me feel worried instead of calming me down ”

I stubbornly tried to move my legs again but nothing was happening"

What going on" why can't I move my legs!! I screamed' crying my lungs out' my parents and the doctor tried to calm me down but it was no use as I wouldn't listen to anyone" I was panicking, I kept fighting them as they tried to hold me

Mr Blackrose I'm afraid we are going to have to sedate her or she may hurt herself said the doctor looking at my father'

I watched my father nod his head for him to go ahead" Walter my baby said my mother in tears as she turned looking away unable to see me in pain 

No.. no.. please! I screamed as three nurses came inside the room holding my hands against the bed" my father hugged my mother comforting her as the doctor gave me the injection 

In less than a second my head fell to the pillow as the drug started to kick in, but I did not lose consciousness instead I felt as if all of my strength had been drained out of my body 

My eyes closed but I was still aware of my surroundings and the voices around me"

Doctor what's happening with our daughter" why can't she move her legs? asked my father in a worried tone as I layed on the bed half awake my eyes barely open,

Mr & Mrs Blackrose I'm afraid that I have got bad news for your daughter said the doctor looking at my parents" 

I sniffed my tears silently as I listened to them speak"

I'm sorry to inform you that during the car accident your daughter experienced an unfortunate spinal cord injury' that disrupted the nerve signals traveling from her brain to her legs, as a result her legs have become paralysed explained the doctor looking at my parents with emphaty

What" said my mother almost collapsing to the floor unable to take the information" control yourself Cynthia' everything is going to be alright said my father supporting her to the sofa

Doctor is there a way you can help her recover" asked my mother in tears as my father helped her sit down

It's possible but highly rare he said looking at them 

How rare I asked with a sore voice that was barely above whisper " each one of them turned and looked at me shocked that I was still conscious ”

Dad please I need to know I said in a weakly"

I'm afraid according to world statistics 5% of patients have managed to recover from paralysis" like I said it's rare Miss Blackrose said the doctor looking at me with sympathy which I hated 

The pill was too bitter to swallow so I closed my eyes and cried silently wishing this were all a dream, but I knew the reality" it was cruel 

So you're telling me I'm crippled I said looking at the doctor my eyes red with tears ”

That's not what.. I'm saying he said as if trying to find the right word but there were no right words for my situation" I needed to learn to accept it but my heart wouldn't allow me ”

I need to be alone please.. I said sniffing away my tears" my parents looked at me with concern hesitating to leave me alone " 

Please.. I pleaded with a tired tone

Okay' honey please call us if you need anything said my mom with concern 

Mom.." I called out as they were about to exit the door" yes need anything she said her eyes lighting up as she turned around 

Please call Mason for me" I need to talk to him I said still in tears
