Kara walked out of the hospital with a smile on her face, she had just been told by the doctor that she was two months pregnant, this was what she and her husband Carlos had always wanted, this could finally make them happy and also change the heart of her mother-in-law who didn’t like her.

She held the test result and smiled down on it. “Mrs. Rita won’t be angry with me anymore after she learns I will be giving her a grandchild.” Tears of joy clustered in her eyes.

Carlos's mother despised her and had made things difficult for her ever since she got married to her son, Carlos loved her so much, but Kara couldn’t understand the reason her mother-in-law hated her.

She has tried to find reasons, she had done everything in her power to please Mrs Rita, but she was still treated the same way as when Mrs. Rita found out she was now married to Carlos because Carlos secretly married her.

Kara and Carlos were in love with each other, but Rita wouldn’t accept her precious son marrying her, Carlos loved her so much and decided to get married behind his mother’s back, but loving someone shouldn’t be a crime, but Mrs Rita has made things difficult for her everywhere.

“This news would certainly please mother-in-law.” Kara sniffled, wiping off her tears, she made her way out of the hospital.

Getting into a taxi she hailed over, she got in and took out her phone, immediately dialling Carlos's number, she couldn’t wait to share the news with him.

The call rang at the other side of the line but there was no answer which was weird as Carlos never ignored her call, Carlos was the CEO of the largest real estate company in New York and was always busy, but not for her, even when he is having an important meeting, he always picked up to tell her what he was up to.

She put down her phone and sighed softly. “Well, since it’s a weekend, he would be at home, whereas, it will be great to see the reaction on his face when I tell him of this news.” She giggled to herself,

The taxi driver saw her smiling from the rearview mirror and commented. “Something good must have happened today, because you look so happy.”

Kara looked at him and grinned. “Is it that obvious?” She asked and the driver nodded. “That’s because something good really happened.” She glanced down at the test result and smiled,

The taxi pulled over at the entrance of her apartment building, she paid the driver and he drove off, drawing a sharp breath, she tried to calm her smile, she wanted to give him the news as a surprise if she was too excited, he would catch on quickly.

She blew air from her mouth and reached for the door, she put in the passcode and pushed the door open, but her eyes dilated when she saw her mother-in-law in the living room.

“Mother, what are you doing here?” The words came out before she could greet her, she didn’t expect Mrs Rita to be here today, she usually came by on Sundays, or her husband would inform her when she was coming so that they could prepare for his mother’s arrival, so her visit was a surprise.

“Do I have a reason to come to my son’s house?” Rita scorned her.

“I am sorry mother, I am just surprised to see you.” Kara intertwined her hand and placed it in her front as she lowered her gaze.

Daughters-in-law shouldn’t be scared of their mother-in-law, but Mrs Rita always made her nervous.

“And where are your manners?” Rita’s voice out again, this time, she tsk her tongue with disdain.

Kara quickly paid her respect, but Rita did not acknowledge her greeting. “This is why my son should never marry just anyone, a child who doesn’t even know her manners, how can she be suitable for my perfect son.” She groaned and gave Kara a once-over.

Kara clenched the hem of her dress, and she held it in perfectly well, she knew how much her husband adored his mother because Mrs Rita was Carlos's mother, but she decided to tolerate all her insults, whereas, she knew it could stop when she reveals the truth about being pregnant.

Kara was too excited to let Rita ruin her happiness, first, she had to find her husband, and she looked at Rita with a smile. “I will go up to my room now and ask Carlos to come keep you company.” She turned to head upstairs but Rita quickly blocked her path.

Kara looked at her mother-in-law and blinked since she was acting strange right now. “Is there something you need?” She asked and Rita cleared her throat.

“Yes, get me some water,” Rita told her, but Kara glanced at the table in the living room to see a glass of water already there, she glanced towards the stairs, wondering what Rita was probably protecting.

Kara drew a sharp breath. “Mother, there is a glass of water already on the table, help yourself with it, I have to see Carlos, I will be right back.” She wanted to leave again but Rita held her hand.

“Pour the water for me!” She said with a frown on her face, her grip was tight on Kara’s arm and Kara couldn’t take it anymore, just then she heard a sound from upstairs, she pushed Rita’s hand away and went upstairs despite her mother-in-law’s obstruction.

“Honey!” She called out with a smile as she approached their room door, glad to finally be rid of her mother-in-law, all she had to do now was tell Carlos of the news.

“Honey, I have good news to---“ Just as she pushed the door open, her voice was immediately caught up in her throat and her eyes dilated at the sight of her husband in bed with another woman.
