Chapter 5

Dr. Hayes arrived at the room where they had moved Kara, when she walked in, she saw Kara sitting on the bed and staring out through the window in thought.

“They had all left.” She told Kara, hearing her voice pulled Kara from her thoughts and she turned to Dr. Hayes.

“Thank you, Dr. Hayes.” She said softly and got up to leave, even when she thought she was left alone again, she had received help from someone, and she felt so grateful right now.

“It’s alright.” Dr, Hayes walked closer. “Do you have somewhere to go?” She asked her and Kara flashed a thin smile and shook her head.

Carlos was all she had left in the world, he was her home, and now she left without her luggage or any penny, she didn’t want to go back to that mansion since she was afraid that they would find out she didn’t abort the child.

“You can come stay with me.” Dr. Hayes told her and Kara quickly shook her head.

“I don’t want to bother you.” Dr Hayes was her doctor, but not her friend, they had only met when she came for a check-up. “What you had just done for me is enough and I am so grateful.”

“It’s not a bother, Kara.” Hayes softly said. “I live alone and I am mostly not in my house since I work late, you can stay with me until you find your apartment, whereas, you have to take care of the child in your womb, I wasn’t kidding when I told you I will help you.” She said and tears shimmered in Kara’s eyes.

Whenever she was at her worst, someone kind always showed up, she began to sob and Dr. Hayes pulled her into her embrace and gave her a comforting pat on the back. “It’s going to be alright now.”

Carlos returned home with his mother and Lydia, as they walked into the living room, Lydia slowly reached her hand to hold him.

“Carlos.” She said softly, but before she could touch him, he pushed her hand away, his brows snapping together.

“You should leave now!” He said coldly and Lydia put her hand down at her side and lowered her gaze.

Rita glanced at Lydia and then at Carlos. “Carlos, you shouldn’t treat her this way, not after what happened between you both…”

“You know nothing happened between the both of us, it was all staged!” He said indifferently, his eyes held a coldness that frightened his mother.

“What you did was the right thing to do.” Rita looked at her son, but Carlos chuckled coldly.

“Right thing?” He shut his eyes, and the image of the betrayed look in Kara’s eyes flashed in his memory. “Go home, Mom, take this…” He paused and looked at Lydia. “The two of you should leave!” He clenched his jaw and turned to head to the room.

“Carlos, you knew you don’t have to feel bad about what just happened…”

“I lied to her!” Carlos yelled at his mother, this was the first time he had ever shouted at her. “I know you never loved her because I declined the arranged marriage you set up for me and married her in secret, but you made me hurt her!” He shouted as tears clustered in his eyes,

“Carlos---“

“I showed her a photograph of her cheating with a stranger when it was Photoshopped.” He snapped at his mother. “Did you see the look in her eyes when she looked at those pictures? She was confused as if she hadn’t been hurt enough, you asked her to abort the baby, to abort my child.” His breathing became so heavy that he gasped for breath.

“That child shouldn’t be born, Carlos, and you knew it!” She said and he closed his eyes and nodded with a scoff.

“I know, that child shouldn’t be born.” He swallowed hard and tears rolled down his cheek, he knew how much he had talked about having a baby with Kara, how the child could look like either of them and the name they would give if it was a boy or a girl.

He loved her, no lady can ever replace the love he had for Kara, he loved her the first time his gaze met hers, the moment he set eyes on her, he fell in love with her, and she was the love of his life and would always be.

“And your love for her was inappropriate, you should also accept that!” Rita added pulling Carlos out of his thoughts.

“That is why I had to let her go since we are half-siblings!” His brows snapped together, being reminded hurt so badly, and the pain in his heart was excruciating.

“Then why didn’t you tell her that you both were blood bonded, why didn’t you just tell her that you were her half-brother?” Lydia asked him, she didn’t like the look on his face, the fact that all she had to play was a role without holding a dear place in his heart angered her, more especially since he knew that loving Kara was inappropriate.

Carlos curled his hand into a fist and looked at Lydia. He had let her play the role just to give Kara a reason to leave, to give Kara a reason to hate him, but the sight of Lydia disgusted him.

“I am too ashamed to tell her the truth, I can’t make her as painful as myself,” He felt wretched with grief. “It’s better to pretend to be in love with you and let her catch me cheating than tell her the truth.” He sniffled.

“Carlos---” Rita wanted to say something else but Carlos interrupted her.

“You got what you wanted mom,” He clenched his jaw, his eyes engulfed in anger. “I have divorced Kara, she is now out of your life and way, so leave, I want to be alone.” He walked away with his shoulder slouched and his eyes blurred with tears.
