Chapter Six

Mila's POV

Sunday went in a blur without any problems. Sooner than later, it was Monday and I had to face my fate. I was now left with the decision to go and try my luck or stay safe in my house. That way I wouldn't feel disgraced if he has indeed fired me

"Well Mila, there is nothing to lose if you go and try." the good voice in my head said, trying to build up my confidence.

"You can lose my dignity." The bad voice said making me more indecisive. I checked the time and it read 5:30 am giving me less time to think much into things.

"Mila if you want to go it's now or never," I said to myself trying to figure out what it will be. My phone started vibrating since it was on silent. I picked it up realizing I have more text messages than missed calls.

"Scarlet what is it?" I questioned immediately I answered the phone.

"Hope you will be able to make it today? We rescheduled Mrs. Rodriguez's appointment to 12:00 pm today. I am afraid rescheduling it again would annoy her."

"Okay, I will be there." The line went dead without any other word. My phone vibrated again signaling a receipt of a text message. I opened it when I realized it was from Scarlet

:) Scarlet: The elevator is not working so you will have to use Mr.Cohen's private elevator. He has permitted us to use it for today.

:) Me: Okay. Anything else?

:)Scarlet: that should be all.

I placed the phone back onto the bedside table before walking into my walk-in closet to pick up an outfit. I decided to wear a plain dress shirt and a black high-waisted office skirt matching it with a black mirror full shoe. Personally, I like this combination because it defines my shape and makes my hourglass shape visible. This outfit never goes wrong. When I am in it, I don't give a shit about what my boss thinks of it and many at times, I catch him staring but there isn't any meaning to it. He isn't in the slightest bit attracted or interested in me. He just stares to find fault to criticize me. When everyone is praising how good I look, he finds a way to make me think otherwise but like I said, I don't give a fuck about his opinion when I am in this. Not today, not ever.

I briskly took my bath before walking into my kitchen to make breakfast. But first, I brew coffee taking it black with just a cube of sugar just the way I liked it. It keeps me from feeling sleepy and keeps me active all day. After eating my toasted bread with eggs and sausages, I made it into my room to get ready. I left home at exactly 7:00 am not before checking my outfit and confidence level.

I got to the UNIQUE real estate office only to be met with the same busy atmosphere. Everyone was dressed smartly today being a Monday. They sat behind their desks each one's head buried in documents or their computer. I made it past the reception to where the private elevator is without checking our normal elevator because I was told earlier it is faulty. I pressed the down button and waited for the countdown to when it will open. The door opened in about thirty seconds revealing Mr. Cohen who made no attempt to get out. I opted to join him since I had no choice.

"You can do it Mila. Just ignore him.You can do it." I said over and over again silently while entering the elevator. The elevator closed moments later enclosing two enemies. I feel sorry for this elevator. Hope we don't get into a fight to destroy it.

"Why are you in my elevator? Do you realize it's my private elevator? Why are you here anyway?" He asked in one go, refusing to look at me. He had the same old cold look on his face.

"I was told I am to use this elevator because the regular one is faulty," I answered, not moved one bit about his cold gesture.

"It has been fixed. It was fixed yesterday. So why should you use mine?"

"I am sorry I didn't know that. That was the information my assistance gave me. Maybe she doesn't know it has been fixed."

"Why are you here? Thought I fired you." He asked now looking at me, ignoring what I just said.

"Weren't you the same person who said you haven't at my parent's house?"

"Yeah, I thought so myself. But that was before your father tried to forcibly make me marry you."

"Excuse You? remember it was your dad who brought this whole idea. It is your father that wants me to marry an animal like you!"

"Ms. Blaine! mind your language." He shouted making me flinch.

Hmmm how much longer do I have to deal with him?. I checked the elevator button as the number keeps changing with each floor we passed. We were on the seventh floor and I was going to the tenth floor. Great! three more floors to go. Just when we passed the eighth floor, the elevator stopped with the light within going off.

Oh no! this can't be happening. I looked to Mr. Cohen thinking he has something to do with this but he looked as confused as I was but more collected.

"What is going on?"

"I don't know. Am I not here with you when it stopped? So why are you asking me?"

"No need being a jerk every time. I thought you will have an idea of what is going on and why it stopped since it is your private elevator."  I blurted sarcastically.

"No need being a stupid fool who can't use her brain in times of trouble. I can see how panicked you are at the thought of being stuck with me. Believe me, I don' like the thought either. I don't even know why you intentionally used my elevator when you know very well the regular one is working."

"Will you cut the crap? Do you think I enjoy seeing your silly arrogant face? I will give everything not to see your face ever again but poor me, I have no choice but to see it every fucking day!"

"You make me sick Mila, you really do. You attitude stink. I hate you more than I have ever hated anyone. I hate you with passion and I wish you were never born. Your parents certainly made a mistake. I can tell they planned on aborting you but you escaped and........."

"ENOUGH!"

I shouted out in rage, raising my hand in an attempt to slap him but I rather fell in his arms because the elevator suddenly started moving. Our gazes locked and for the first time I saw something different in his eyes but it passed as quickly as it came, rage replacing it. Did I see differently?. I could feel my cheeks turning a darker shade of red. I cursed myself for reacting this way. Now he would think that he has an effect on me which isn't true.

The elevator door opened and every jaw in my department dropped at the sight. I couldn't understand why they were staring at us until I realized I was still in the fool's arms. He pushed me away also realizing the position we were in .

OMG! I am so sure this will appear in the papers.

"You look horrible in that outfit Ms. Blaine."  Mr. Cohen criticized breaking the awkward silence. He pressed on the elevator button to take him into his office which was on the thirteenth floor.

"I can see you are enjoying your morning Ms. Blaine"  Scarlet teased making me furious.

"You knew the elevator was working and you told me otherwise. You made me make a fool out of my self moments ago."

"Sorry ma'am. I didn't know it has been fixed."

"Whatever, bring in the files I gave you on Wednesday" I demanded, not wanting to waste time talking about irrelevant stuff.

"Sure. I took them to the files room. Let me fetch them for you."

I walked into my office banging the door behind me. I was so pissed off with myself for coming here in the first place.

"But at least you get to keep your job." My mind said trying to calm me down. Scarlet brought the files and I wasted no time on working on them. I got so involve in work that I lost track of time. Before I knew it, Scarlet came to inform me that Mrs. Rodriguez has arrived.

My stomach churned reminding me that I missed lunch. Deciding to take a quick lunch after this meeting, I asked Scarlet to usher her in.
