Chapter Forty-Three - Electra

“Try reaching out.”

Nell huffed. It was all very well Liam saying that but she didn’t know how. They were getting better at the mind link, though. This was a different matter entirely.

“If I empty my mind any more I’ll start to forget who I am.”

“Don’t joke about a thing like that,” he said.

Too late, she remembered Martha and her craziness. Some said lunar madness.

“I’m sorry, I’m just so wound up.”

“What about this Robin character? Isn’t he around?”

“It doesn’t work like that. At least, I don’t think it does. Can we talk about something else?”

Alpha Liam checked his watch. “It’s late,” he said. “Why don’t you go to bed? I’ve just got these reports to read and then I’ll join you.”

That reminded her of something, a pleasant memory from the past. They sounded like Mom and Dad used to, before the arguments.

“Okay,” she said. “But I’ll be up early to make those pancakes I promised.”

The kiss was perfunctory, too, which was fine with Nell. Any more strong emotion and she would crumble.
