ログインThe council keeps droning on about finding the hunter Odessa and her wolf. They aren’t overly pleased that she is a woman or that I brought her into the castle before knowing if she is an enemy or an ally.
My fingers drum the table I sit at as I let them discuss their thoughts and opinions. It’s been over an hour already and they’re just circling the topic. “Enough. She is already here, already within our walls. You would think that my judgement of her would mean something. I do not sense any threat from her or her wolf companion. In fact, I sense the exact opposite. Instead of continuing this same conversation in circles, perhaps you will acknowledge my acceptance and let me continue. I’ll apprise you of any new developments and promise to have her closely watched.” The elders of the council murmur. Elder Marious speaks up. “Yes, your majesty. We leave it in your care, for now.” I arch a brow at his words before we all rise and the meeting is finally concluded. I leave without looking back, letting the door to the room slam behind me. I can’t stand their need to have their noses in everything. They’re advisors, not the leaders. Have my instincts questioned makes my lycan growl lowly, wanting to slash at anyone who doubts us. I’m lost in my thoughts that are fueled by my frustrations when I can feel my lycan stirring inside me. There’s a scent that makes my steps falter and slow. I tilt my head before closing my eyes and taking a deep inhale. This smell is of milk, honey, and lavender. Intoxicating and alluring, calming and exhilarating. I can’t stop myself from quickening my pace, following the traces of this smell, trying to figure out where it’s coming from. Within a minute I am walking into the loud dining hall. My men and women are enjoying their meal, loud in their conversations. All the scents in here are mixing and blending, but I can still smell that scent in tracking amidst it all. I take another deep breath and turn. The next thing I know, I’m standing right next to Odessa and Arius. Jasper giving me an amused look as I find myself inhaling her scent with my nose close to her head. She is tensed, frozen to the spot as I grip the back of her chair. The discussions around the room have ceased and all eyes are watching me. Regardless of the attention, even logically knowing what I’m doing is bizarre, I cant help myself. My lycan rumbles low in my chest, my fingers grasp some strands of Odessa’s hair gently as I breathe her in. Before I can stop myself, one word comes from my lips breathlessly. “Mate.” I can feel her shiver as my fingers graze her neck before by nose. Everything about her scent captivates and excites me. Being almost thirty-one and having no mate has been quite a topic, but now she is here. I have to blink a couple of times and drag myself away, trying to be coherent. I clear my throat and clench my fists. “I… I apologize, I didn’t mean to lose control like that.” Odessa remains tense, though she relaxes just a fraction when I step back. I’ve messed her braid up a little bit. She looks a little breathless herself, but then… she had to have recognized me before. Right? She is blushing as she smiles. “I can understand, it took quite a bit for me not to react similarly on the battle field.” Her voice is quiet and a little sad instead of excited. What does that mean? Why is she said. Before I can say more, she motions to an empty chair. “Are you going to join us?” How can she be so calm and cool? Do I not mean much as a mate to her? Why does this matter? The confusion swirling through me has me frozen a moment. Not to mention, my lycan is wanting to force himself forward, to mark her as ours. “Yes, yes I am.” I finally say as I take the seat beside her. There is no royal dining table in this room. I’ve always preferred to eat amongst my men and women as an equal. It doesn’t matter who is who on the battle field, why should it matter where someone eats? I clear my throat after I’ve fixed my plate and someone pours me some wine. “Were you able to get some rest?” Her proximity is driving me crazy and comforting me all at the same time. Even without makeup, she is beautiful. Her blindness doesn’t bother me as I already know it isn’t a weakness. Even with their dull color, I’m captivated by them. She laughs a little bit and tilts her head in my direction after adjusting her braid. I’m dying to loosen it and feel the strands of her hair in my fingers again. Down boy. “Yes, the room was nice. I haven’t slept in a comfortable bed like that or taken a luxurious bath in quite some time. Thank you, your majesty.” I frown, brow furrowing as I watch her face. I sip my wine before answering. “Call me Levantus, titles hardly seem necessary between the two of us now, don’t you think?” Everyone in the room has already turned to their own discussions again at this point. So, only Jasper, Arius, and those really close to us can hear. I watch as Odessa frowns and pushes food around on her plate before responding. “I would prefer to call you by your title for now, if that is ok. I’m trying to… deal with some things in my head. Allow me some time?” I stare at her, understanding hitting me. She’s as confused about us as I am. She’s trying to think logically, which is smart. Then again, I can’t help how it stings. I want to be seen as the person beyond my title. With her, she should be able to do that. “Very well, my lady, titles for now it is.” After stating this, I growl a little though it isn’t a threat. My lycan close to the surface now as my fingers brush against her arm. I can feel warmth and sparks flying as our skin touches. “But know that I and my lycan lack patience… we had lost hope in finding our mate. To have her here now… it is difficult not to just act.” She shivers and lets out a small gasp, her body automatically leaning into the touch. It warms me to physically see that she isn’t immune to this. The longer we are in each other’s presence, the stronger the bond will become and the harder to ignore. “Yes, your majesty, I understand. Let us get through the meal and the discussion behind me first. Then we can see where we stand.” I frown, reluctantly pulling my hand away from her arm. She needs distance for some reason, I can give it to her for the time being. The relief comes in knowing that she isn’t rejecting me and what we could have. “Fair enough.”Two days later, Levantus guides Rowena and I out into the gardens. He takes us into a cluster of trees that opens up into a wide clearing. “This spot is completely hidden and no one knows about but myself and my beta.”I walk around the clearing, taking in the space we have and look to Rowena. “What do you think? Is this going to work?”I have no idea how much space we are going to need, so I lean on her insights. She smiles, puts her hands on her hips, and nods. “Yes, this will work just fine. If we need more, we can figure something else out. After we get a little deeper into training, we will need you, your Majesty, but for now, you’ll just be a little distracting. Before we go out separate ways, I have something for both of you.”She reaches into a pocket in her dress and pulls out two pendants. One is on a thick titanium chain, the pendant is in the shape of claw, obsidian stone in the center of the paw, tigers eye claws.
Rowena smiles as she watches the love blooming and warming between Odessa and Levantus. “Child, I can give you some training, but a lot of what you have in you will be triggered along the way. Also, due to your bond, Levantus may end up receiving some gifts himself through you. It’s part of the balance between you. You are facing powerful enemies, that cursed wolf had a lot of powers he stole and a witch or two in his pocket. You’ll need to become stronger to be able to stand against them.”Levantus growls as he curls an arm around Odessa. He rubs his nose against her head and breathes her in. “We can do it, together we can face whatever is to come. I know it…”Rowena laughs and shakes her head. “Unfortunately you can’t do much for her training. But yes, you’re both going to need each other to face things ahead. However, her training is going to be a little more difficult now that her sight is back.”Levantus looks thrown and
I walk with Levantus down hallways within the castle, aiming toward the room given to the witch. As expected, there are guards outside of her doors, but they are for her protection. I’ve noticed how every guard and worker in the castle have taken to bowing to me. It makes me feel incredibly self conscious. As the king’s mate, it means a lot even before becoming official. I steer my mind away from things that don’t need to be faced right this second. Right now, I need to know more about this witch and what has happened. I knock on the door and a voice answers. “Come in, dears.”We walk in to find her propped up in bed. She has a tray of some food and water nearby, but she’s hardly touched it. She gives me a kind smile and it makes my heart clench. She reminds me a lot of the woman who helped ground me when I was lost and gave Arius and me so much before she passed. “Hello, how are you feeling?” I ask while Levantus
After such a heavy battle, there is a reprieve. Most of the dead are rogues, about 23 altogether with 10 warrior deaths. Despite who died on what side, the loss is devastating. Buildings and grounds have been damaged as well. The only blessing is that the kingdom did not fall and Odessa now stands. With her wolf restored, her vision has returned as well. Her eyes are now their natural amethyst color. Whatever energy she emitted when she awakened that healed and rejuvenated, caused wolves close to death to heal enough for help to arrive while smaller wounds healed. Levantus was able to completely heal because of his direct mate bond to her. His worst wounds still require some healing, but he was able to stand again. ~~~~~~~~ Odessa POV ~~~~~~~~~Sego. I’ve known for years that he is a despicable man, but it still hurt. I can’t help but carry some blame on my own shoulders. It feels like I keep failing and people keep getting hurt.
Deep within the castle, the witch continues her work with Connor’s aid. The two different magics working continuing to clash. The power struggle is immense and the dark energy is trying to seek a way to reconnect to the dark energy outside the circle. The witch closes her eyes and amps up her focus while she chants. Mixed within her chanting are prayers to the Moon Goddess, seeking to undo wrongs that have been done. Right as everything seems to crescendo, Odessa suddenly goes limp, her eyes partially open and empty. Her lifeless body lay in the center with the dark energy writhing within it as well. Connor goes to move, panic strickens him for a moment. The witch’s voice lashes out to him. “No! Don’t break the circle, trust the process! Trust your lady and her wolf!”Her words stop him cold, though he can’t understand how she could be so calm about the situation. He tries to reel himself back in, though he can feel the loss of Odessa
I howl loudly as I rush into another group of rogues. There are bodies all over the place. Thankfully, they mostly look like rogues, but we won’t know the count until it’s over. My heart is absolutely hammering my chest. I’m torn between feeling my mate’s pain and fighting the good fight. Connor does his best to ensure I know what’s happening when he can. He warned me she would be in pain, but we have to trust it’s part of her fight to break through. I’m growing tired of Sego’s cowardly actions. Sending wolves in to do his fight, but not stepping in himself. I can’t help my frustration because I want to rip him apart for everything he has done. I find myself focusing on four wolves, rogues that are pushing at overwhelming two of my people. I kill the first I plow into instantly before turning on the second, slashing his jaw and throat out with my claws. Right as I take the third down, I sense it. The power shift in the air, the storm grows eve
********** Thalia POV **********It’s tiring work, building up a spell and curse, reaching something long distance. It would be better if I was closer, but safer here. So, I spent the last three days preparing, building power, gathering all that was needed. It’s almost the right hour, three more h
I don’t know what it is that she feels beneath my beautiful woman’s skin. I cannot control what has her so worried, but I can give her myself. She’s accepted me, she wants me. Hearing her say she is ready to have my mark has given me my whole world. “I love you, Odessa.”I say softly right before
Dawn breaks, birds sing, celebrations from the night before have silenced. Yet I awaken early, despite my exhaustion. My instincts are telling me today is dangerous, something is coming. I sit up in bed beside Levantus who is still sleeping. His aura is calm and the gold is comforting. My fingers
I can see the sadness in her eyes for just a moment. Her desire to be able to see what is around her. I can’t imagine what that frustration is like. How would I feel if I couldn’t see her? See her beautiful smile?“We are all wearing matching ties to your purple dress with pocket squares. There’s l
