LOGINI can hear the sounds of our boots on the floor inside the castle as Jasper guides me. Arius’ claws tap the ground as we walk, he is always at my side. I can smell flowers, different werewolves of different statuses, cleaning products, and food.
My vision is black, though I do see light from the people I focus on. Jasper is giving off a bluish tint, telling me he is calm. I can tell his muscles are large and well defined because of how solid and thick his arm is. He smells of cedar and lemons. “Lady Odessa, it is a pleasure to meet you. We heard news of how you’ve protected a couple of our packs and we have been trying to meet you.” His voice is calm and there’s a warmth there that surprises me. I can tell that he isn’t speaking to me out of attraction, but genuinely thankful. “Yes, I had heard I was being looked for, but I could not come right away. There is too much going on that it is difficult to find time to step away. It seems as though the Goddess had other plans by bringing us together anyway.” He hums his agreement as he stops at a door. Guiding me inside, I can smell lavender and lemon cleaners. He guides me to a dresser, from there we move to the bed. He takes time with me to help me get oriented with the room I’ll be staying in. My room has an attached bathroom he takes me through as well. He doesn’t know that I don’t need this extra help with Arius here, though I’m sure he can guess. He goes to the door and pauses to speak again. “I’ll have food and drink sent here for you and Arius. Rest, bathe, relax.” I bow my head in respect. “Thank you, I’ll do that.” Once he leaves, I sit down and touch Arius’ head as he rests it against me. “Well, it seems it’s time for us to make some allies and help prevent more loss. Perhaps we will get our vengeance soon.” Arius growls, but it isn’t a threatening or aggressive rumbling. It’s contentment as I stroke his fur. ~ Yes, it seems allies would be beneficial. The king and his men seem strong and they’ll have bigger numbers than just us two. Are you going to tell them everything? ~ His deep, snarly voice rumbles in my head. I continue to stroke the fur on his head. “Yes, I think I will. The more knowledge and understanding they have, the better prepared. Better than what happened to us.” Arius agrees. ~ The story will be difficult… but maybe since the king is your mate, it’ll make it easier for you. ~ I sigh and shake my head. “Of course you’d have noticed. He doesn’t know, Arius, they can’t smell me because of the potion I’ve taken. Maybe it’s better this way.” Arius lifts his head and I know he’s looking at me. ~ Odessa, you know that isn’t true. Our mate bonds are given to us by the Goddess herself. She has a reasoning behind every pairing. I think you should consider letting the potion wear off, letting him and his men know our scents. Not just because of your mate bond, but because they’ll need to know us if we are to be allies. ~ I frown and bow my head slightly. His words weighing on me because I know he isn’t wrong. “Guide me to the bath please? I’ll consider it… right now, I’d like to bathe. We both could use a good rest.” Arius huffs, his version of a little laugh as he stands. I can find my way without him, it’s just easier with him at my side. **************************************** Hours later, it is time for dinner. Arius and I have been invited to come to the dining hall where the king and his men are dining. Discussions will be held after in his council room with his commanders, beta, delta, gamma, and the king himself. After a little bit of a back and forth, Arius convinced me that dinner would be ideal. I’ve also allowed the potion to wear off. I wonder how the king is going to react the minute we walk through the doors of the dining hall. A knock on the door sounds before it opens and Jasper’s blue light appears. “Evening, my lady, I’m here to be your escort. The king wanted to come, but the councilmen have been detaining him.” I nod my head and stands up slowly. Arius guides me to Jasper who gives me his arm again. I can feel him taking in my appearance. Maids had left me a lilac sundress that cinches at my waist and then bells out. The skirt ends just above my knees. My long, raven hair is twisted in a braid. I wear no makeup or jewelry. “You’re looking rested and quite beautiful, if you don’t mind my say so.” I can’t help blushing a little bit and giving a shy smile. “Thank you, Arius said the same.” Jasper’s eyebrows raise a little, though I can’t see it. “Arius can talk? Is he not just a wolf?” I smirk as I brush my fingers against Arius who walks at my side. “It’s complicated. I’ll explain later at the meeting, if you don’t mind. Then I don’t have to repeat myself.” Jasper seems to consider it. Though what he did was nod his head before responding. “That makes sense. Alright, my lady, it’s going to be loud, but you’re not alone. I’ll be staying at your side.” I smile and nod my head. “You and Arius. I have a feeling if I said it’s too much, you would get me out of there.” Jasper chuckles. “I’ve known more than one blind wolf in my day. From what I know, the other much more heightened senses can be severely overwhelming. Just touch my arm if you need an out and I’ll take you somewhere more peaceful to enjoy your meal.” I feel myself beginning to relax more with Jasper, he makes it easy. I know he isn’t lying to me and I sense I can trust him. “Thank you, Jasper, that means a lot.” With that, he makes a motion with his hands and the doors to the dining hall open. I’d heard the murmur of noise before, now, it’s on full blast. Two days later, Levantus guides Rowena and I out into the gardens. He takes us into a cluster of trees that opens up into a wide clearing. “This spot is completely hidden and no one knows about but myself and my beta.”I walk around the clearing, taking in the space we have and look to Rowena. “What do you think? Is this going to work?”I have no idea how much space we are going to need, so I lean on her insights. She smiles, puts her hands on her hips, and nods. “Yes, this will work just fine. If we need more, we can figure something else out. After we get a little deeper into training, we will need you, your Majesty, but for now, you’ll just be a little distracting. Before we go out separate ways, I have something for both of you.”She reaches into a pocket in her dress and pulls out two pendants. One is on a thick titanium chain, the pendant is in the shape of claw, obsidian stone in the center of the paw, tigers eye claws.
Rowena smiles as she watches the love blooming and warming between Odessa and Levantus. “Child, I can give you some training, but a lot of what you have in you will be triggered along the way. Also, due to your bond, Levantus may end up receiving some gifts himself through you. It’s part of the balance between you. You are facing powerful enemies, that cursed wolf had a lot of powers he stole and a witch or two in his pocket. You’ll need to become stronger to be able to stand against them.”Levantus growls as he curls an arm around Odessa. He rubs his nose against her head and breathes her in. “We can do it, together we can face whatever is to come. I know it…”Rowena laughs and shakes her head. “Unfortunately you can’t do much for her training. But yes, you’re both going to need each other to face things ahead. However, her training is going to be a little more difficult now that her sight is back.”Levantus looks thrown and
I walk with Levantus down hallways within the castle, aiming toward the room given to the witch. As expected, there are guards outside of her doors, but they are for her protection. I’ve noticed how every guard and worker in the castle have taken to bowing to me. It makes me feel incredibly self conscious. As the king’s mate, it means a lot even before becoming official. I steer my mind away from things that don’t need to be faced right this second. Right now, I need to know more about this witch and what has happened. I knock on the door and a voice answers. “Come in, dears.”We walk in to find her propped up in bed. She has a tray of some food and water nearby, but she’s hardly touched it. She gives me a kind smile and it makes my heart clench. She reminds me a lot of the woman who helped ground me when I was lost and gave Arius and me so much before she passed. “Hello, how are you feeling?” I ask while Levantus
After such a heavy battle, there is a reprieve. Most of the dead are rogues, about 23 altogether with 10 warrior deaths. Despite who died on what side, the loss is devastating. Buildings and grounds have been damaged as well. The only blessing is that the kingdom did not fall and Odessa now stands. With her wolf restored, her vision has returned as well. Her eyes are now their natural amethyst color. Whatever energy she emitted when she awakened that healed and rejuvenated, caused wolves close to death to heal enough for help to arrive while smaller wounds healed. Levantus was able to completely heal because of his direct mate bond to her. His worst wounds still require some healing, but he was able to stand again. ~~~~~~~~ Odessa POV ~~~~~~~~~Sego. I’ve known for years that he is a despicable man, but it still hurt. I can’t help but carry some blame on my own shoulders. It feels like I keep failing and people keep getting hurt.
Deep within the castle, the witch continues her work with Connor’s aid. The two different magics working continuing to clash. The power struggle is immense and the dark energy is trying to seek a way to reconnect to the dark energy outside the circle. The witch closes her eyes and amps up her focus while she chants. Mixed within her chanting are prayers to the Moon Goddess, seeking to undo wrongs that have been done. Right as everything seems to crescendo, Odessa suddenly goes limp, her eyes partially open and empty. Her lifeless body lay in the center with the dark energy writhing within it as well. Connor goes to move, panic strickens him for a moment. The witch’s voice lashes out to him. “No! Don’t break the circle, trust the process! Trust your lady and her wolf!”Her words stop him cold, though he can’t understand how she could be so calm about the situation. He tries to reel himself back in, though he can feel the loss of Odessa
I howl loudly as I rush into another group of rogues. There are bodies all over the place. Thankfully, they mostly look like rogues, but we won’t know the count until it’s over. My heart is absolutely hammering my chest. I’m torn between feeling my mate’s pain and fighting the good fight. Connor does his best to ensure I know what’s happening when he can. He warned me she would be in pain, but we have to trust it’s part of her fight to break through. I’m growing tired of Sego’s cowardly actions. Sending wolves in to do his fight, but not stepping in himself. I can’t help my frustration because I want to rip him apart for everything he has done. I find myself focusing on four wolves, rogues that are pushing at overwhelming two of my people. I kill the first I plow into instantly before turning on the second, slashing his jaw and throat out with my claws. Right as I take the third down, I sense it. The power shift in the air, the storm grows eve
********** Thalia POV **********It’s tiring work, building up a spell and curse, reaching something long distance. It would be better if I was closer, but safer here. So, I spent the last three days preparing, building power, gathering all that was needed. It’s almost the right hour, three more h
I don’t know what it is that she feels beneath my beautiful woman’s skin. I cannot control what has her so worried, but I can give her myself. She’s accepted me, she wants me. Hearing her say she is ready to have my mark has given me my whole world. “I love you, Odessa.”I say softly right before
Dawn breaks, birds sing, celebrations from the night before have silenced. Yet I awaken early, despite my exhaustion. My instincts are telling me today is dangerous, something is coming. I sit up in bed beside Levantus who is still sleeping. His aura is calm and the gold is comforting. My fingers
I can see the sadness in her eyes for just a moment. Her desire to be able to see what is around her. I can’t imagine what that frustration is like. How would I feel if I couldn’t see her? See her beautiful smile?“We are all wearing matching ties to your purple dress with pocket squares. There’s l
