Blood Awakening Chapter 7: X

Blood Awakening Chapter 7: X

Maridelle stayed inside his chamber for few hours, sitting on a couch. She in front of him like a student in front of principal. There was no conversation between them. She desired to initiate a discourse to break the ice, however, her fright of blurting informations ceased her. So instead of talking, she focused her eyes on the details of his chamber.

It is huge with a king size bed near the window on the east side. Over it is a canopy of white thin fabric. Paintings she considered of thousands ages hung on the wall. There is a grand chandelier right in the center of the ceiling. On the left corner situated a table, his working table. There are fine furniture with materials she thought expensive. There is also a balcony where the fresh air freely enters the room. There was nothing much to note. It is simple but huge and elegant.

“Are you done?” Lachlan finally talked.

“Done what?”

Lachlan stared at her. “I am asking if you are done watching what's in my room.”

“Oh, I'm sorry. It just that...uhmm... I've been here for hours literally doing nothing except from sitting.”

“Got a problem with that? Let me remind you I'm the Alpha. I got the say and you don't.” His stern voice engulfed the room. She shouldn't complain to an Alpha.

Maridelle's feeling the ambiance heated. “No, that is not what I meant. I'm just wondering why I'm here,” she said shyly. The alpha must have misinterpreted her answer.

“You'll soon know.”

If she is bored or bothered, Lachlan bet he got it triple times. He is used to be inside the room alone or with his beta, Mellow. But this time having Maridelle with him is a source of discomfort. Maridelle and him alone inside a chamber with a king size bed. Great. Just a perfect combination to stir his composure.

“I used this for dual purpose,” he said upon realizing his a little harsh to her. “This is where I work and I got a lot of overtime so I need a bed to fall into.”

That's awkward. Maridelle know he is trying to free theirselves from the awkward situation, but mentioning about the bed is not a good idea.

She nodded in response not wanting to talk anymore; just complying with Lily's command: less interaction as possible with the alpha.

Lachlan felt it. He made her uneasy. There are a lot in the room to talk about like the paintings or the grand chandelier. However, he mentioned about the bed. It was not a good topic at all; he agrees.

He is losing his temper. Mellow is the kind of beta who always do a job right away so the delay is diminishing his patience. The instance Lachlan was told about the information, he immediately allotted time to see both of them. Confirmation first before punishment. If everything is true, he cannot promise to take it easy on them. They will face the consequence they deserve.

The beast within him had suddenly awoken. X, as he call his wolf, had growled from his consciousnesses.

“Hello, X. I'll promise you a run after I sort things out,” he said on his mind. It's been a long time since the last day they enjoyed their selves on the woods.

“Not now,” he added. Something's wrong with his wolf. It suddenly wanted to shift, to take over him.

“Stop! I said not now, X,” his command is filled with authority, but to X, it seemed nothing.

“What's wrong?” Maridelle innocently asked. She thought her silence angered the Alpha. His hand is curled into a fist. He seemed talking to something.

“Nothing,” Lachlan answered. Maridelle had caught him acting weird. But it was his wolf; it is fighting him.

Without any notice the door opened; Lily came rushing in. Lachlan smirked beholding such act. It begins now.

“Maridelle, are you alright?” Lily worriedly said as she neared her.

“I did not harm her,” Lachlan interrupted. “Beta Mellow, start reporting.”

“As you wish, Alpha.”

The three of them faces Lachlan. Mellow is in front while Lily and Maridelle are behind him. Lily's holding Maridelle's hand.

“Few weeks ago, almost a month actually. A brutal killing of three people was reported,” Mellow started. “The culprit was unknown, but it was clear that it must have been a vampire since the victims' blood were totally drained.”

Lily's grip on Maridelle's hand tightened. She feels her hand getting cold. Cold sweats trickled on their backs. They know where this is going.

“So an alliance was made to address the conflict. We had a hard time looking for the culprit. He or she is really good at hiding. But now, we know who it was,” Mellow continued. He glances on Lily and Maridelle whose muscles, he supposed, stiffened.

“Do you know about this, don't you?” His question is directed to Lily. However, Lily knew Lachlan got his answer already.

Lily tried shifting. It was no use for Mellow alone can handle her, but she is holding on the tiniest hope Maridelle could at least have the chance to escape. To protect her is the priority.

“Not fast,” said the Alpha.

Mellow had prevented her before she can fully shift.

“Now, it's confirmed. We'll be submitting you to the alliance. I don't need more evidence. I am certain of your deceit and sin.”

“NO! You don't understand the situation, Alpha! Don't bring us to the alliance,” Lily screamed.

A loud bang echoed. Lachlan's fist hit the table. He is fuming because of Lily. “How dare you say that! I understand everything. Maridelle no matter how angelic her face is, killed innocent people. You brought in my pack a murderer. Not just a normal murderer but a vampire. That is clearly a betrayal to your race! And now what she did had fueled an insurgency. That could mean war! Which part did I not understand, Lily?”

“I didn't mean to go here. Just let us leave. Everything will more complicated if you won't let us. Alpha Lachlan, please,” Lily begged.

“Leave and then what? Give your niece a chance to kill? Come on, Lily. I won't be doing that.” Lachlan faces Mellow. “As for their deceit, Mellow you know what to do.” He is adamant.

“Aunt Lily has nothing to do with this. It's all me. I did it. Let her leave,” Maridelle begged on her knees, tears pattering on the floor.

Lachlan's eyes are glued to Maridelle. She is the same person he considered a true angel of not only in face but of deed in a short span of time. He started to assume she has put an act. But caving into her plea is against his duty. Lily, as he deemed her, is an accomplice.

“The decision is final.”

Maridelle rose from kneeling. Seeing her Aunt Lily trying to escape Mellow's grip squeezes her heart. She just wish she can be brutal like the way she was the night when it started everything. If she could then it could save them. It might but she doesn't know how. She haven't learned the ways of her parents' race.

“Punis—”

The alpha was not able to finish his command. X, his wolf, is violently taking over him. Everything that is covering Lachlan ripped. Shreds of fabric are scattered on the floor. The next thing he knew he had shifted. Then his wolf towering over Maridelle, stared at her.
