Chapter Twenty-one

Time seemed to have gone to a standstill for Carl, as he remained in his position, unmoving. Even as the policeman advanced cautiously toward him, he never for once turned back to stare at him. The voice of the policeman, who seemed a bit frightened of him, boomed in his ears.

“Move and I shoot!” he warned as his threats flowed out in stutters, which was proof of how frightened he was. He had never met Carl before or known him but he was sure that the silent man before him, had an idea of what happened at the hospital.

His hands shook as he aimed his pistol at Carl’s head. Even as his companions, took cover behind the four other police vehicles in the vicinity, he still did not feel assured of his safety. He signaled some of them, to go into the building and check up on those insides, and they complied.

Finally, getting to Carl’s position, he handcuffed his hands. Seeing that Carl’s hands were cuffed, the rest of the policemen, walked right out of their covers, as they advanced toward Carl. Pulling him up roughly, two policemen, walked him toward one of the police vehicles.

“Wait! What are you doing?” Madison asked as she ran out of the building, with some other patients in the building. Her hair moved with the wind as she ran. Beads of sweat adorned her face, while some streaked down her neck, to be lost.

“Who are you?” the first policeman that had walked toward Carl earlier, asked while taking long strides toward her and observing her with his eyes.

“I need to speak with your leader.” Madison requested as she proceeded to walk right past him, toward a policeman that looked more elderly in appearance but was held back by the first policeman.

“My name is John stone and am the head here, Miss.” He informed, and stared at her in the eyes. “You can tell me who you are and what relationship you have with this young man right here or at the station.”

“What?!” Madison couldn’t help but say, as soon as she heard his utterance. She stared at the policeman, observing every detail about him. “You can’t arrest me…”

“Your choice, not mine.” The policeman interrupted, as his eyes gave off a hint of coldness and his facial expression, serious, and grabbed her hand.

Madison angrily shoved his hand off hers and gave him a dangerous glare. “Fine, since you want to know who I am so much, I’ll tell you.” She said to him. “My name is Madison Allen of the fashion empire, and the man you attempt to arrest is my bodyguard.” She said, turning back to stare at the policeman.

She noticed his lips quiver slightly and his face showed a hint of shock. “You don’t want to lose your job, do you?” she asked him while still staring at him in the eyes, trying to intimidate him.

But alas, the policeman, stared back at her indifferently. “I am sorry ma’am, you still have to come to the station if you want to bail him out. “ He said decisively, as he signaled the two others to lead Carl to the car.

As soon as they approached Madison, Carl glanced at her pitiful face and smiled wearily, before being pushed to keep moving. Soon, he was forced into the car.

“He didn’t do anything!” Madison couldn’t help but yell out in frustration, in the policeman’s face, who only ignored her and walked past her into the building.

She tried to approach the police car, but the rest of the police did not allow her to come closer. Even after threatening to sue them, they still did not pay heed to it and warned her to go away or she would also be arrested.

In the end, she decided it was best to come to the station, to bail Carl out, to avoid unnecessary troubles. She stood there, patiently waiting for the police chief to walk out of the hospital building.

“Maddie.” A soft, feminine voice called out to her, forcing her to stare in the direction of the call.

Claire ran towards her, doll in hand, and with tears streaming down her face. Before Maddison could utter a word, the little girl wrapped her tiny hands around her waist and buried her face into Madison’s stomach.

“Claire?” Maddison called softly while staring down at the little girl’s head.

Claire stared up at her and then her eyes diverted towards the moving police vehicle, which was suddenly exiting the premises, with Carl inside. “Where are they taking him to?’ she asked innocently while pointing her index finger towards it.

Madison smiled and crouched down to the little girl’s level, clutching her face with her palms. “They think he did something and they are going to question him, but don’t worry, I will go bail him out.” She replied with a reassuring smile.

“Are they going to hurt him?” Claire asked while staring down at her doll.

“They wouldn’t dare,” Madison replied. If there was one thing she felt at that instant, it was shock…shock because she had no idea, what Carl had done that had made the little girl care so much for him. “Why do you care about him?” she couldn’t help but inquire, to satisfy her curiosity.

Claire smiled at her. “Because Uncle Carl is a hero.” She responded and giggled.

Hero? Now Madison was even more confused. “I thought he is a big lame Rufus?” she asked with a light chuckle while shaking her head.

Claire just smiled at her, without uttering a word after that. Before Madison could say anything else, she scurried off toward her mother, who had run out after her.

Madison gave a brief smile at the woman, who returned the smile and walked back into the hospital, with her daughter.

In a large mansion, a man could be seen walking briskly in a specific direction. He looked enraged and his grey hair, stuck to his face like glue, as he walked toward the target in sight.

He gave a push, to one of the numerous doors in the mansion, walking into an inside-built swimming pool, in the mansion. His eyes shone with disgust, as he heard the whimpers and the sounds of flesh, being slapped hard.

His presence in the room seemed to disrupt the fun in the air, as all the women, stared at him frozen. He ignored them all, letting his head tilt to the side and his eyes met with those black eyes of the only male in the pool.

The male stared back at him and his face darkened, as the women scampered off the room, to avoid incurring the wrath of the old man upon them.

“What do you want?” the young man asked with hostility, as he walked out from the pool, reaching for the hanging towel and wrapping it around his waist.

“I thought I was raising a son and heir but I never knew I was breeding a monster!” Mr. Brian bellowed at him in total disgust.

Chase squinted his eyes at him, with a deep frown on his face. His hands were fisted by his side, as soon as he heard the words uttered by his father. “I am not a MONSTER!!” now, it was Chase's turn to yell back. His chest rose and fell continuously, as he locked eye contact with his father.

“Do you love my best friend’s daughter or you are using her for selfish gains??” Mr. Brian inquired with an interrogating look.

“So she told you?” Chase asked and gave a short laugh. “How pathetic.” He commented, without replying to the question asked.

“How despicable! You are an excuse for a son and a disgrace to my name!!” Mr. Brian roared out in a fit of rage.

“Disgrace?” Chase asked and his brows curved and his lips trembled. “The only disgrace here is you…you are an excuse yourself!” Chase bellowed as he locked eyes with his father.

For Some time, none spoke but just glared at each other. “I’m cutting off the wedding!” Mr. Brian threatened as he closed the gap between him and his son. He was simply trying to control of urges of slapping the smirk off his son’s face.

“No, you won’t,” Chase said as he stared at his father’s face. “The wedding is going to proceed and not you or anyone else, can stop it.” He added, and walked past his father, picking up his rope and putting it on, over the towel.

The room fell silent for a while, as Mr. Brian glared at his son, who just stared back at him unconcerned.

“The wedding is off.” Mr. Brian blurted out, as he headed towards the exit, turning his back to his son.

“Oh really?” Chase asked as he began to wipe away some of the water dripping on his face with a towel. A mischievous smile played on his lips, as he seemed not too concerned about what his father had just said. “Good luck trying to stop your son's wedding, father.” He said and turned to face the pool.

Mr. Brian did not turn to stare at his son but kept advancing towards the exit. As soon as he touched the door handle, his son’s threat played in his ears.

“But don’t say I did not warn you.”

Mr. Brian hesitated for a moment before he pulled the handle and walked out, slamming the door.

As soon as the door got shut, Chase picked up a phone and after dialing a number, he placed it close to his ear.

“Yes boss?” the voice on the other end, responded without hesitation.

“You know what to do,” Chase said without mincing words and cut the phone call. Placing the phone on a table, his eyes darkened as he stared at the place his father had previously stood.

His eyes shone with bloodlust which disappeared as soon as it came and if one wasn’t fast enough, they would miss it.
