Chapter 1

5 years later

“We’re here! “said the taxi driver, standing in front of the condominium where I was going to live.

" Thanks! “ I got out of the car and looked at the building from the front, admiring my new home and not believing that I was starting a new stage in my life and I was ready. After four years I decided to change city, I always wanted to live in Miami, I was just waiting for an opportunity to be here and I did it. I currently worked at an event organization company. The company was called “Love wishes”, which today had agencies in several states in the USA. Although the company has an office, most of the time I worked from home, going to the agency two to three times a week. The company was an event producer, specifically weddings.

It might seem strange, but I liked organizing weddings, I always did and despite being left on my wedding day, nothing changed. Even so, I enjoyed my work, perhaps because I was aware that I would never get married again.

The taxi driver helped me take my bags out of the car and the condominium doorman greeted me attentively. I hadn't taken much, just three suitcases, my dog and some belongings. My dog was named Wiskas. A furry, white, Xiwawa dog. Over these years I learned not to get attached to things, it was the best way to not suffer if one day I lost it. So what I had in the other house, I simply sold and donated, keeping only what I needed.

“A pleasure, I’m Hoscar” greeted the doorman smiling.

“A pleasure, Luke Yunan” I replied back, received the key and was escorted to my apartment. The building was huge, with about 60 floors. Apartments with three bedrooms, very modern, the condominium also had a swimming pool, gym, sauna and an events room. Despite living alone, I loved big apartments because I wanted space. There were two large apartments per floor. Standing in front of my apartment door, I looked back and saw the other apartment.

“I will have a neighbor so close to me,” I commented, because someone who was always used to living in houses was used to having neighbors, yes, but not so close, as if we were going from one room to another. That was the feeling I had.

“Yes, it's Jackson, he's a nice guy.

I just smiled and nodded, curious to know who my neighbor would be. The doorman helped me open the door. I entered the apartment and saw how beautiful, modern and spacious it was, in the American style, as I had always dreamed of. My bags were dropped off, I said goodbye to the doorman, leaving just me and Wiskas in the apartment. I took the puppy out of the carrier and petted her. She left the place, but it was strange because it was something new. I took a deep breath looking at the wonderful apartment, it was true that I had already seen the apartment before buying, but after making the move it was emotional, a mixture of relief and satisfaction. It was the first time I lived in an apartment. The apartment was not yet furnished, but it had the essentials, a stove already assembled and a refrigerator. I had already purchased some furniture online and arrived soon at Helenam. I asked the store to bring it on my moving day.

I calmly walked to the window watching the landscape, from there I could see the beach, which was not far away. I simply loved this apartment and although it was very expensive, as I paid in installments countless times, I knew it was worth it.

While I waited, I took the opportunity and called Thomas, who coincidentally was living in the same city, but she moved well before me. I told him that I had already moved in and that I loved the apartment, I wanted to continue the conversation, but the doorbell rang.

Thinking who it could be, I answered, seeing a woman with gray hair, shoulder length, from her appearance, her age should be in her early 50s. A beautiful and vain lady, just by her smile I could tell that she was very friendly.

“Hi, my name is Ursula Will” she introduced herself.

“Luke...Luke Yunan. “I did the same.

" Pleasure! " She smiled. “I came to meet the new neighbor, I live on the bottom floor, apartment 72.

“I have a lot of pleasure, it's a shame that I'm not ready to welcome you, my apartment is practically empty, the furniture arrives today” I warned, giving her way to enter.

“Don't worry, I'm not the one who's going to fix it, so I have no say. “She laughed, walking into my apartment and looking around. “It’s beautiful, congratulations!

"Thanks!”

" Where are you from?”

“California” I replied and Ursula continued asking me questions, starting a conversation. She was certainly different from many women I knew who were more discreet.

“It was a pleasure meeting you, just call for anything. “ Ursula smiled and left.

" Thanks. “I closed the door and looked at my bags again.

It didn't take long for my furniture to arrive and in a split second, I found myself with a lot of things to unpack.

Even though I was tired, I took courage and started to tidy up. I spent the whole day organizing the house, decorating it the way I wanted, with only a few details missing, which I could fix Helena with more time. I was tired and exhausted, but happy.

For a moment I looked at the living room window, seeing the landscape. After what happened, I lived in other cities in the USA and I didn't mind changing cities, but this time I wanted to stay. I chose this city to live permanently and I expected to like it, just as I liked the others.
