DREA

Philip avoided my gaze completely and glanced at his mother.

“I never agreed to this.” I thought out loud.

I can’t get married to a stranger. I will not. Yeah, my life here was bad, but who knew what it would be like if I married a stranger?

I’m not willing to take that risk.

“Drea. Don’t ruin this” Ivanka gritted out while smiling, wrapping her fingers around my forearm and gripping tightly.

If it were any other day, it probably would’ve made me cower in fear but today, that was just not happening.

“Mr Smith, I am not going to marry anyone. I did not even agree to this.” I cried out, my vision becoming blurred by tears. I was desperate for someone to tell me that this was just a huge joke.

“I'm afraid to say that this is a legally binding contract. One that was signed by your father before he died. It cannot be breached easily.” He explained.

“Her father?” Philip spoke for the first time since this whole thing started. Oh so now he can speak?

“Yes. It was agreed upon and signed by your father and Mr August Wolfe.” He continued.

Philip seemed to be deep in thought, his face scrunched up with confusion.

Why would my father arrange a marriage I did not want? Why would he do this??

“Why would such a thing be agreed upon without MY opinion?” I sniffled, the tears finally falling.

I just could not hold it in any longer.

Mr Smith looked at me, a look full of pity written all over his face.

An awkward silence settled in the room as Mr Smith cleared his throat uncomfortably.

I looked at Ivanka to see her staring at Philip. It seemed like they were having some sort of silent conversation.

Why?

I was about to say something when Mr Smith spoke up.

“If you have any more questions, Miss Drea, Mr Wolfe advises you to see him at his company.” He continued, reaching into his pocket and bringing out a business card.

I collected it with shaky hands, my chest tight with fear.

With that, he cleared his throat and stood up.

“Please contact me if you have any questions regarding the arrangement.” He stated calmly, handing a card to Ivanka which I assumed was his personal business card.

“Thank you, Mr Smith.” Ivanka smiled, getting up and escorting him to the door.

As soon as I heard the click of the front door, I completely broke down.

“Come here.” Without even thinking, I fell into Philip’s open arms, each sob harder than the previous.

“You’re alright.” He murmured, stroking my hair as a means of comfort.

“What is happening?” I choked out, my body feeing numb.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” I asked, wiping my tears which was pointless as more just kept falling.

I heard him sigh, his arms tightening around me.

“I’m sorry Drea. It wasn’t my place to tell you.” Wasn’t your place?

“What aren’t you guys telling me?” He tensed, his entire body becoming rigid as we pulled apart.

“It’s nothing Drea” that was clearly a lie.

I was about to say something when Ivanka walked in, a familiar smirk etched onto her face.

“Why are you overreacting? The guy is a billionaire.” Ivanka commented.

“I don’t want to get married to a stranger.” I exclaimed truthfully.

“Well, that doesn’t matter to me because you’re going to whether you like it or not. Finally, your father has done something beneficial. We are going to be rich!” She gleamed, sighing.

“You didn’t arrange this?” I asked.

She scoffed, flipping her hair and staring directly at me.

“Of course I didn’t. Your Father did. Why? I have no idea.” She muttered the last part to herself.

I looked at her for a second, studying her facial expressions. She did not seem to be lying about not being the one who arranged it.

Why would Dad do this to me?

“I can’t do it.” I stated, wiping my tears with the sleeves of my shirt.

The smile fell off Ivanka’s face as she stood up and inched closer towards me. She bent down to my level, her eyes glaring down at me bitterly. My hands became shaky and my chest tightened.

“Yes, you will. You don’t have a choice. You’re lucky someone wants to marry you. A rich man at that. ” She replied.

“Mom.” Philip warned.

“We all know that’s the only way she can ever be useful in her life. So you…” She started, poking at my chest. Each poke of her finger felt like a nail being hammered into my chest, that heavy feeling settling deep within.

“Are you getting married.”

“All I know is, after all I’ve done for you, I need a reward.” And what exactly has she done for me except torture me emotionally?

DREAI immediately rushed towards him and sat down on the bed, using my hand to tap his cheek slightly.“August.” I tried to wake him up but he wasn’t budging.“Get away from her!” He said but louder this time.Who?“August. It’s just a nightmare.” I tapped on his cheek repeatedly. “Wake up.”He started to thrash against the bed violently and my eyes widened.“Don’t touch her!”“August!” I screamed. He gasped loudly and his eyes shot open.He immediately sat up, panting heavily.I gave him time to breathe before saying anything.“Are you okay?” His gaze snapped towards me sharply. Before I could even comprehend what was happening, I was pulled into a hug.He wrapped his arms around my waist tightly, his breathing heavy.I could feel how fast his heart was beating against my chest.“It’s okay,” I whispered, wrapping my arms around his back, with a hand running through his soft hair. His scalp was slightly damp from sweating.“It’s okay,” I reassured him, resting his head against my sho

DREAI sat on my bed with the blanket over my lower half, thinking about the things that happened today. My heart tightened as I thought over what Ethan told me.•Flashback•“I was in love with your mother.”My stomach churned as I slowly turned around to see him standing there with the same unreadable expression on his face.“Did she love you too?” I asked, my voice barely coming out as a whisper. He paused, before sighing heavily.“No.” I breathed out a sigh of relief. “She always loved your father…up until the end.” He mumbled the last part, breaking eye contact.“Why were you two—”“Stop trying to find out so much about the past Drea.” He warned, stepping closer to me.“You will find out a lot of things that you’re not ready to accept.”I felt a lump in my throat as I stared into his cold eyes, neither of us saying anything.“Drea!” I turned around to see August briefly jogging towards me and pulling me close to him, putting a significant distance between me and his father.“What

DREA“Good evening sir.” His cold gaze darted towards me.“Drea.” He simply said.“Okay everyone, dinner will be served in the grand hall.” A maid announced and we all made our way towards the hall. There were a total of ten people present.Me and I.Elena.Jason and Amelia.Jason’s parents Ethan Wolfe. An older-looking man, whom I learned was a family friend, and his wife.Ethan sat at the head table with August on his right and Elena on his left.I sat next to August and Amelia sat next to me.Dinner was brought out and everyone began to eat with small talk going around the table.“So, Drea.” The old man, whose name was Peter, started.“I heard you’re Matthew Hart’s daughter.” I froze immediately when he said that.A forced smile made its way to my face and I nodded.“Yes sir, I am.”The man stared at me for a while before digging into his food.“You have his eyes.” He simply stated and I chuckled nervously.Who was this guy?And how did he know my dad?“She looks exactly like her

DREAI stared at myself in the mirror. This ought to do it.I didn’t get a dress code from August but I decided to wear a black evening dress that stopped slightly above my knees and fitted in the right places. My hair was straightened and cascaded down my back.I tried putting on my necklace but it just would not click into place behind my neck.Stuffing it into my clutch bag, I grabbed my phone and headed out of the room.August stood there in a black casual suit with his hair styled on top of his head.My heartbeat increased as I stared at him.“Hi,” I muttered.“Hey.” He replied.“Should we go?” I asked, and he nodded. We began to walk down the hall and made our way downstairs to the front door.Pulling it open, I stepped out, not before muttering a ‘thank you’ as he closed it behind him.A grey Aston Martin was parked in the driveway and my mouth fell to the floor. The car was beautiful.Should I do it?Just ask him.“August,” I called out when he opened my door.He turned around

AUGUSTI sighed before taking a seat on the floor next to her bed.Her grip never loosened. My back rested against the bed frame as I listened to her steady breathing, not saying anything. Now that I thought about it, I was mean to her.The day I found out about the tracking devices.I clenched my jaw at the thought of it.There was only one found in the whole house which makes me think it was someone who was not a staff member. It was a visitor.Someone who had limited access to the house.I was just so occupied that day that I wasn’t really focused on the things she was saying. And that was a stupid move on my part.No wonder she acted that way this morning.I treated her like shit.I had handled the situation horribly. And I regretted every moment of it.Her hands squeezed mine again, and I looked at her.She still had her eyes closed.“Don’t disappear for another week.” She muttered. My heart ached.I was such a douche.I was too occupied with work to realize that I had hurt the o

AUGUSTI paced around my office, looking at the time on my watch.10:13 pm.Where was she?Had something happened to her?Why wasn’t she picking up?As if on cue, I got a notification that the front gate had been opened on my phone. My heart dropped.Stuffing my phone in the pocket of my pants, I headed out of my study and descended the stairs.Pulling open the front door, I walked down the driveway, waiting to see which car would turn up.I let out a breath of relief when I saw my Porsche roll down the driveway and stop in front of me.I didn’t even wait for Cole to come down and open her door for her.I pulled the back door open to see Drea sleeping in the backseat. My brows furrowed.“What happened?” I asked Cole, reaching into the car and gently lifting her drowsy body into a sitting position.Cole looked down nervously before speaking.“Well, sir—”The smell of whiskey immediately hit my nose.“She’s drunk?” I asked.“Yes sir.”I sighed, running a hand through my hair and squatti

DREA Light slowly crept into my window, sun rays scattering across my blanket. My eyes squinted at the sudden intrusion, my hands reaching up to rub my puffy eyes. I barely slept last night.
