Chapter 8

Horace’s POV

The look on their faces - that was enough satisfaction for the night. After placing Elena carefully into the limousine, I walked over to the other end. The chauffeur got the door, and as soon as I walked in, Elena burst out laughing.

“Did you see the look on their faces?!” she said, amidst laughter.

“The jealousy was tangible.”

I smiled, saying nothing. There was a warmth that came with her laughter, and I revelled in the moment, seeing her so carefree and loose.

“And you played your part so well. You were all lovey dovey and…”

“I wasn't acting”, I said, staring intensely into her eyes. “You deserve to feel and be treated like that ten times over.”

She stopped laughing, staring back into my blue eyes. Her eyes glittered in the night, those hazel brown beauties that had the sharpest shade that I'd ever seen on a beautiful woman like her. Goodness, my wolf wanted to rip that red dress apart, the sequins making her even more appealing. I leaned in, and when she leaned even closer, I knew she wanted to kiss me. Just then, her phone buzzed, ruining the moment. She blinked multiple times, accidentally throwing the phone to the ground as she tried to pick it up.

We both reached for it, and our hands touched. Even the slightest brush of her silk against mine made my wolf growl restlessly. I controlled it, picking it up and handing it to her.

“Thanks”, she said, hardly taking her eyes off mine.

Just then, my own phone buzzed too.

“Oh shoot, it's almost 8.00 p.m. I promised Ethan I'd be home before he goes to bed. Mr. Adams, start the car, please.”

“Yes, sir”, the chauffeur answered, turning the ignition. The car cruised out of the premises, and soon we were on the road home.

I'd usually wake up earlier, but I cancelled my outings for the day so I could make it up to Ethan. By the time we'd reached home yesterday, he was already, and I was pretty sure he was sorely disappointed too.

I put on my shorts and a light shirt for jogging. There was a vast mass of space in the White House, so I didn't have to go outside the gates to jog.

Coming out of my room, I bumped into Elena in her sleeping robe.

“What are you doing up so early?” we both asked simultaneously.

“I’m going for a jog. You?”

“Umm… I had a nightmare and I can't sleep back”, she said, touching her head.

“Is everything ok?” I asked. She was acting very uneasy.

“Just a slight headache. I'll be fine.”

“You're not fine”, I said, placing a hand on her neck and head. When she attempted to step back, she missed her step, and I caught her, drawing her even closer to me.

Her hands fell on my chest, and there was that electrifying tension between us again. My wolf was restless again, and all it wanted was to take Elena back into my room. I stared her down, my eyes switching from those hazel brown eyes to her supple lips, I so badly wanted to bite.

“I’m fine, honestly… I just need sleep”, she said, dropping her hands too fast so that her robe belt immediately loosened.

Shock filled her eyes. She was more appealing than I thought. Those well-defined hips and generous bosoms fit perfectly into her bra and panties. She thanked her stars she still had her inners on because there was no way I would have stopped this wolf from getting what he wanted.

“You should wear those more often.”

Dumbfounded, she quickly closed up and then ran into her room without saying a single word.

“Good. You've succeeded in embarrassing her.”

Not knowing what to do myself, I headed out for my morning jog. When I was back, Ethan was up and Elena was feeding him breakfast.

I watched silently from the kitchen door so neither of them would notice me.

Of course, Ethan had to blow my cover.

“Daddy!” he shouted excitedly, stepping down from his chair in a rush. I carried him and threw him in the air, his giggles filling the room.

“Hey, buds. Missed me yesterday?”

He nodded, his face switching to a frown.

“Don't worry”, I said, patting his head. “That’s why I'm home today so I can make it up to you.”

“Yeay!” he said, throwing his hands in the air.

I patted his head, bringing him to the floor.

“Now you can go finish your food.”

“He's done already”, Elena said quickly, avoiding my eyes. She took the plate to the sink, rinsing it quickly.

“Buddy, why don't you bring down your Lego set so we can build something?”

“Ok, Daddy.”

Ethan rushed upstairs, leaving Elena and me in the dining area.

“I have work upstairs”, Elena said, in an attempt to escape. But I blocked her way, placing my hand against the wall.

“Are you avoiding me?”

“Avoiding you? How?”

I looked at her, my eyes following her chest as it heaved up and down.

“It's about what happened this morning, isn't it?”

“I don't know what you're talking about.”

We stared at each other for a while. Her hair was still a bit messy, and she was still in her morning clothes, only that she had on a nightie instead of just a robe. But still, I could see the lining of her shape and body, the fabric doing a really bad job at hiding her features.

“What are you always tense about when we are together?” I asked, looking into her eyes. I placed my hand on the side of her face, and I could feel her shudder at my touch, her eyes darting anywhere but at mine. I positioned her chin to look at me, the tension of the moment only making me want her more.

But all the time, someone had just to ruin the moment. Suddenly, the doors swung open, and a SWOT team walked in, my personal assistant following closely behind them.

Confusion covered my face.

“What's going ….”

“Alpha Horace, I regret to disturb your off day, but there's an urgent matter that needs your attention.”
