Rhea’s POV

Smoke still clung to the skyline the morning after the explosion.

The city looked different — quieter, as if it was holding its breath.

I hadn’t slept; every time I closed my eyes I saw Jake reaching for that detonator, saw the flash that swallowed everything.

Lucas stayed beside me, sitting on the hospital bench outside the ICU where half of our team lay. His suit was torn, his hands scraped raw. Yet when our eyes met, he tried to smile.

“Coffee?” he asked.

I shook my head. “Hindi ko kaya. Para pa rin akong nasa loob ng building.”

He nodded. “I know. But we survived, Rhea. That has to mean something.”

“Does it?” I whispered. “Jake didn’t.”

Lucas didn’t answer. Instead, he handed me a small memory chip wrapped in gauze — one of the last things recovered from the wreckage.

“It was inside Jake’s badge,” he said. “The techs decoded a few lines before the servers went down. You should hear it.”
