A chill stung the four of them as they all stood before the weeping man.

“Did he just fucking say…?” Brendan began but trailed off as he watched the man try to summon his claws and failed each time.

Suki looked at Brendan with furrowed brows, hoping her glare would encourage him to keep quiet, before stepping towards Zale, who looked utterly lost for words. It wasn’t hard for anyone to guess the thought that was going through his mind. “It can’t be a curse… the pack has done nothing wrong to imbalance or offend nature.”

Rey shook his head. “A curse? Like what happened to Silver Moon?” he questioned. Holding out his hand, he summoned his claws rapidly without any struggle.

When Zale saw that, he did the same and sighed with relief. No, it wasn’t a curse. “Thank the Goddess.”

    The air around her became thick, cold and unbreathable. Suki looked at her father, wide-eyed, mirroring his shocked expression as he saw who was with his daughter. Looking up at Brendan, his eyes were the only window to show his fear, but his body screamed protective, holding her close even though she wasn’t the one in danger. She was far from it. She examined Brendan; the small essence of his shadow magic was no longer hovering around him. Whatever he had released before must’ve been accidental. He wasn’t shielding himself from her father’s vision, and it was too late to do it now. He had been seen, and they had been caught.     Suki whimpered, feeling Brendan’s teeth drag against her neck as he pulled himself back and stood straight. His eyes slowly widened, and he forced himself to move away from her. It appeared as if he was fighting against an invisible force. There was no blood on his mouth. She touched her neck and checked her fingers after feeling no moisture. He didn’t mark her.
