Chapter ten

For several seconds, I simply stared at the blank line waiting for my signature.

One simple movement of ink would tie me to Killian Montclair for the next three years.

This was definitely not the life I imagined for myself.

Across the table, Killian remained silent.

He wasn’t pressuring me to sign. Instead, his attention rested on me, patient but steady.

Like he already knew what I was going to do.

I exhaled slowly.

“Well, this might be the most reckless decision I’ve ever made.”

Chapter forty four Jade POVA whole weekend alone with Killian. The words replayed in my head like a warning bell I refused to acknowledge.I stood in the living room long after Aurelia and Camille had left, staring at the closed door like it might open again and prove this was all some joke. But it didn’t.The house remained quiet.Too quiet. And for the first time since I moved in, it didn’t feel like silence. It felt like anticipation.I swallowed, suddenly aware of how exposed I was.Not physically well not yet.But emotionally.Because it was one thing to play the role of wife in front of the world. It was another thing entirely to be alone with the man who had started looking at me like he was forgetting this was just an arrangement.Or worse…Like he remembered too well.My skin still tingled from his touch in the study. From his mouth. From the way he had pressed against me like he belonged there.Like I belonged to him.I shook my head quickly.No.I wouldn’t spiral.I woul

  • Bound by paper    Study Confessions

Chapter forty threeJade POV“Killian?” I whispered softly.“ Looking for something,” he asked calmly. Before looking down at the opened file opened in front of me “I see you found it.” he added. Resting on the door frame with hands folded. He looked calm, composed and unbothered but his presence filled the room like an invisible cage. Without a word, he walked forward, his long strides deliberate, until he was behind me. Then, without warning, his hands were on the desk, bracketing mine on either side, his body pressing just slightly against mine.“Why are you sneaking around?” His voice was low, teasing, but with an undercurrent of authority that made my stomach twist.“I… I was looking for you,” I stammered, my fingers brushing the edge of the file. “And I saw it open…”He trailed a finger lightly up my l arm, and I immediately forgot the next words I was going to say. The simple touch sent shivers through me, and I realized I was holding her breath.“Why?” he asked again, voic

Chapter Forty two Jade’s POVI woke up before him. That was new.For a moment, I didn’t move.Didn’t open my eyes.I just… stayed there.Basking in his body warmth. His arm was still around me.Not tight. Not restraining.Just there.Like it had found its place. My back rested lightly against his chest, the steady rhythm of his breathing brushing against my neck. And for a second,I let myself enjoy it.No questions. No overthinking.Just… this. Then my mind caught up.And just like that, the warmth felt complicated again.Adam.The courtroom. The way he had said yes so easily when they called it neglect. My chest tightened slightly.Carefully, I shifted. His arm didn’t move immediately. Then it tightened.Just a little. My breath caught.“You’re doing that thing again.”His voice was rough.Sleep-heavy.Too close.I froze.“…What thing?”“Thinking too much.”I turned slightly. His eyes were still closed. But I knew he was awake.“You don’t know that.”A pause. Then,“You go still w

Chapter Forty one Jade’s POVThe house felt off.Not empty. Not quiet.Just off.Like something had followed us home from the courthouse and settled into the walls.Dinner was laid out perfectly, just like every other night. Margaret had outdone herself again, the table warm with food and soft lighting. But no one really touched anything.Killian sat across from me.Still.Too still. His fork moved occasionally, pushing food around his plate rather than actually eating. His gaze wasn’t on us. Not on Aurelia. Not on me.Somewhere else.Far away.I had been watching him.Trying not to make it obvious. But I couldn’t help it.Aurelia noticed it too.Of course she did.She always did.“Daddy?”Her voice was soft, careful.Killian looked up immediately.Like he had been pulled back.“Yes, princess?”“Are you okay?”The question lingered.Simple but heavy.I held my breath slightly.Watching him.Waiting.He nodded once.“I’m fine.”The answer came too easily.Too quickly.Aurelia didn’t l

  • Bound by paper    Court

Chapter Forty Jade’s POVThe courthouse didn’t feel like a building. It felt like a battlefield.Cold marble floors. High ceilings. Echoes of footsteps that sounded too loud no matter how carefully you walked. Everything about it carried weight. Authority, judgment and today, it felt like all of that was waiting for us.I adjusted the sleeve of my blazer slightly, more out of nerves than necessity. The outfit was perfect. Structured, clean and powerful. Exactly what this moment required.Killian stood beside me, already composed. As always Dark suit. Immaculate. Every detail in place like he had stepped out of control itself. His expression gave nothing away, but I noticed it.The tightness in his jaw.The slight stillness in his shoulders. He was tense. And somehow, that unsettled me more than anything else.“You ready?” Caleb asked, stepping up beside us, his tone calm but sharp.“Yes,” I answered before I could think twice.Killian’s gaze flickered to me briefly.Just for a seco

Chapter Thirty-NineJade’s POVThe drive back felt different.Quieter.Not the empty kind of quiet that comes from nothing to say, but the kind that comes from too much. Too many questions. Too many emotions sitting heavy in my chest with nowhere to go.I kept my gaze on the window, watching the city slowly come back into view, but my mind wasn’t there. It was still in that garden.Still standing in front of that small gravestone.Still hearing his voice.I have a son.Not had but have.My fingers tightened slightly in my lap. I wanted to ask him.I wanted to ask everything. How did he die?How old was he?Was he sick? Was he alone?Did it hurt? The questions came one after the other, relentless, pushing against the back of my throat like they demanded to be spoken. But I didn’t.I couldn’t.Because I had seen his face. The way his jaw tightened. The way his voice shifted, almost imperceptibly. The way he held onto control like it was the only thing keeping everything from breaking.T
