LOGINISOLDE POV
I swallowed hard, my fingers tightening by side. “Spanish?” I frowned, looking at him. “What do you mean Spanish? Why would I say the password in Spanish?” He dragged a hand down his face and let out a long, tired sigh, like I was testing the last bit of his patience. “Español,” he said slowly, like he was talking to a child. “Just… say the damn password.” I stared at him, narrowing my eyes. This had to be a setup. “Are you trying to mess with me?” His expression went cold instantly. “Look, lady, I’ve had enough of your bullshit. Either say the fucking password in Spanish… or get the hell out of this property.” I swallowed hard. Yeah… he was definitely getting pissed. “O-okay… tiger, calm down,” I muttered under my breath, raising my hands slightly. Bad idea. Very bad idea. His eyes darkened at that. Right. Focus. Spanish. I glanced back at the wolf statue, my pulse kicking up. My Spanish was rusty at best, and now of all times my brain wanted to go blank. Lunar… okay, that stays the same. Gate… puerta, right? And thirteen… trece… I shifted on my feet, second-guessing myself. This had to be right. It had to be. Because if I screwed it up in front of him… yeah, not an option. I exhaled quietly, then spoke. “Puerta lunar… trece,” I murmured, a little slower than usual, like saying it carefully might somehow make it correct. For a moment… nothing. My heart dropped. Then… A soft click broke the silence. The iron bars rattled, shivering like they were waking up, before they slowly started to part. I sucked in a shaky breath, only just realizing I’d been holding it the whole time, my eyes locked on the gate. “Oh… thank God,” I breathed, almost laughing in disbelief. “…it worked.” A rush of cold air hit me the second the gates opened. Not normal cold… nah . This was different. Sharp. Wrong. It slid over my skin and straight through me, like something unseen had just brushed past.. zlike those moments in horror movies that gives you this unshaky bad vibes. A shiver crawled down my spine, raising goosebumps along my arms. “Get in the car. I don’t have all day.” His voice cut clean through my thoughts… cold, impatient. I blinked, still staring down the long driveway stretching out ahead. It seemed endless, lined with towering trees whose branches curved inward, almost like they were hiding whatever lay deeper inside. I couldn’t see the house. Not even a shadow of it. I swallowed hard, then turned back to the truck, that uneasy feeling settling heavier in my chest with every step. I climbed in, shutting the door a little too quickly. The engine came to life, and we drove inside. The deeper we drove, the darker it got. Sunlight barely reached the road now, swallowed by the dense canopy above. The shadows stretched long and strange, shifting with the wind… or maybe it’s all in my head.. this town was screech since I stepped in . Maybe it’s messy with my thoughts. I glanced at him from the corner of my eye. His hands rested steady on the wheel, his face calm and unreadable. “How far is it?” I asked softly, my voice barely cutting through the silence. He didn’t answer right away. Then, after a moment… “You’ll see.” The way he said it made something twist in my stomach. Because it didn’t sound reassuring. It sounded like a warning. The driveway stretched endlessly ahead, flanked by towering trees that swallowed most of the morning light. My hands clenched the edge of my seat, my heart hammering with every turn of the wheel. Then… it appeared. A massive stone wall rose abruptly from the earth, dark and imposing, as if it had grown from the ground itself. I blinked, frozen. I hadn’t expected anything like this. Beyond the wall… a mansion. Huge. Elegant. Intimidating. Turrets and spires clawed at the sky, windows glinting like dark eyes, ivy snaking along every surface. The gates were wrought iron, intricate, but even behind them, the house seemed untouchable, almost alive. I swallowed hard, my mind racing. Alara… lived here? How? The past two years, I’d known her. Nothing about her life hinted at luxury… she was rather frugal with money, almost stingy. I’d even jokingly called her a stingy pig. But this… oh my days… this was insane. I just stared, my mouth hanging open. Cairos eased the truck to a stop at the gates, cutting the engine. Silence pressed down like a weight. “Welcome… Blackthorn,” he said, calm and precise, his voice carrying that same dangerous authority that made my chest tighten. I froze, staring at the mansion as if I’d stepped into another world. It was bigger… bigger for a small town like this should even have. I climbed out of the truck, still unable to believe my eyes. “I would take my leave now.” his voice cutting through my thoughts. “…feel at home. If you need anything, there’s a number on the wall.” He pointed casually to a small metal plate near the door, the number printed neatly across it. “I would take my leave now…” he added. Before I could even say a word, he was gone. Just like that. In the blink of an eye, Cairos Veylan had vanished. I stood frozen, blinking at the empty driveway, my heart still pounding from the mix of awe and fear. I slowly turned back to the mansion, towering and silent before me. Its dark windows reflected the pale morning light, and the air around it felt… heavy. Like it was watching me. Grabbing my bag from the truck, I dug through it for the keys, my hands trembling slightly. The moment they touched the cold metal of the door handle, I hesitated… but then pushed, opening it slowly. Suddenly, A flurry of birds exploded from inside the house, wings flapping wildly, claws scratching the wooden walls. I stumbled back, nearly losing my balance, my heart racing a mile a minute. “Jesus Christ!” I yelled, bending over as the birds scattered into the sky. I took a shaky breath, hands pressed to my chest, staring at the wide-open doorway.ISOLDES POVMy breath came out shaky.“I don’t know how to control anything!” I snapped. “I just got here .. I don’t know what this is!”“That doesn’t matter,” Cairos said, steady, unshaken even with that thing right in front of him. “It’s already part of you.”“I didn’t sign up for this!”“No one does.”“Great!”The thing moved again. Not fast this time.Slow. Careful. It was studying me now instead of attacking. Its head tilted slightly.“…There you are,” it whispered.A chill ran down my spine.“What does that mean?” I asked, my voice smaller now.It didn’t answer me.Instead, it took one step closer. And the air between us warped.I felt it again— That pull. But different this time. Not dragging. Calling.Like it expected me to come to it.My body leaned forward slightly before I even realized it.“No—” I caught myself quickly, stepping back. “Nope. Not happening.”Cairos’ voice came low behind me. “Don’t resist it like that.”I turned to him sharply. “Which one do you want me to
ISOLDES POVMy breath came out uneven.I couldn’t look away. His eyes… They were the same. The same red I saw this morning. The same red I thought I imagined.Except now.. I wasn’t imagining anything.“…You lied,” I whispered.Cairos didn’t answer immediately. His gaze stayed locked on the thing on the stairs, his body tense, like he was holding something back.“I didn’t lie,” he said finally, voice low. “I just didn’t tell you everything.”“That’s the same thing!” I snapped, my heart racing. The thing laughed again.“She’s mad…mad at you…”“Shut up!” I yelled, my voice cracking now.My head was spinning.Nothing made sense anymore.Alara. The hospital. This town. Him.Everything felt like it was breaking apart at the same time.“Isolde,” Cairos said, sharper now. “Focus.”“Don’t tell me to focus!” I shot back. “You’ve been hiding things from me since I got here!”“And you haven’t?” he fired back instantly. That shut me up.For half a second.Because he was right. The thing took anoth
ISOLDES POVMy chest felt tight. Too tight.Like breathing was becoming go hard to do.“What is it?” I asked again, louder this time. “What the hell is that thing?!”Anna didn’t look at me. Her hands stayed raised, voice still moving through those strange words.Cairos answered instead.Low. Careful.“…It’s not supposed to have a form.”I blinked. “That’s your answer?!”“It means,” he continued, eyes fixed on the thing, “it’s using something it knows you’ll respond to.”My stomach twisted.Alara.Of course. The thing on the stairs smiled again…like it heard every thought in my head.“You miss me,” it said softly. My breath hitched.“No,” I whispered, shaking my head. “You’re not her.”It tilted its head slightly.“Then why did you call me?”I clenched my fists. “I didn’t call you!”“You did,” it said gently. “You always do.”A sharp crack split through the room again.Another stone at the base of the stairs fractured.Anna’s voice faltered for half a second. “Cairos—!”“I see it,” he
ISOLDES POVThe moment the words left my mouth, the air shifted again. Not just heavy this time…Like it was about devour everything in its way..The whisper from the stairs changed. It wasn’t soft anymore. It sharpened.Like it had heard me.Like it felt me.“Oh God…” I breathed, my chest tightening painfully.Cairos moved closer instantly, his voice low and urgent. “Don’t panic.”“I’m not panicking,” I said quickly. “I’m just… very aware that something up there wants me!”“Not helping,” Anna snapped, her voice rising as her hands moved faster, tracing symbols in the air.The runes flared brighter under our feet. The pull inside my chest intensified. It hurt now.Like something was tugging at a thread tied deep inside me, trying to pull it loose.I gasped softly, my body tensing. “It’s… it’s pulling harder—”“I know,” Cairos said, stepping even closer. His hand hovered near my arm like he wanted to grab me but was holding himself back. “Stay with me, Isolde. Focus on me.”I looked at
ISOLDES POVI froze“I WASN’T—” I stopped mid-sentence. “Actually, you know what? Never mind.”I exhaled sharply, forcing myself to focus on anything else. The floor. The symbols. Anna was humming softly in the background, as if this were completely normal. Then it was my turn.I hesitated. My hands hovered over my clothes.“This is ridiculous,” I muttered.“Just get it done,” Anna said without looking back.I clenched my jaw. “If I die, I’m haunting all of you.”No one answered.Great.I turned away from Cairo as much as I could and quickly started getting undressed, just trying to get it over with whatever this is.Top off. Jeans off. Fast. No thinking. My face stayed hot the entire time, as it had personally decided to betray me.I kept my focus anywhere but him, forcing my mind to behave. It didn’t really listen. Even my nipples stood hard and aroused.By the time I straightened up, I caught movement from the corner of my eye.I froze.Slowly, I turned my head.Cairo was looking a
ISOLDES POVAnna stood there clearly tired.“Enough,” she said sharply, clapping her hands once like she was ending a conversation. “I need you both to get naked so I can start the ritual.”The silence that followed was so heavy it felt like the house itself froze with us.I stared at her. “…What?”“Naked,” she repeated calmly, like she was asking us to move furniture. My brain lagged behind my ears. “Like… clothes off naked?”“Yes,” Anna said. “Butt naked.”I froze completely. For a second, I actually wondered if I’d blacked out and entered some alternate version of reality where this was normal.“I’m not getting naked with him,” I said immediately, pointing at Cairos without looking at him. My face burned hot. “Absolutely not. No. That’s insane.”Anna sighed like I was the difficult one here. “It’s not what you think.”“It is EXACTLY what I think,” I shot back. “I just got told I’m possibly being hunted by invisible things and now you want me to undress in front of the man who keeps
ISOLDE POVI stared at him, swallowing hard as fear gripped me.“Find out?” I repeated slowly. “So you’re telling me someone was in this house… with us… and you’re just calm about it?”Cairos didn’t flinch.“This is not me being calm,” he said simply. “I’m assessing.. panicking doesn’t help a thing
ISOLDE POVMy throat went dry.I took a slow step backward without thinking, eyes fixed on the ceiling like it might crack open at any second.“…Hello?” I called out, my voice sounding too small in the big house.Silence answered me.Then…knock.Right above me again. Harder this time.I flinched s
ISOLDE POVI stared at him, my chest still rising and falling too fast.He was right… I didn’t trust him. And honestly, I didn’t care if he trusted me either. As long as I could prove he had something to do withAlara… I could play whatever game he wanted.“That’s not a problem,” I said quickly. “T
ISOLDE POVDEAD!I pushed my chair back so fast it almost fell. My eyes locked on him, wide in shock. He had to be messing with me.Dead? Dead?Alara is in a hospital bed right now, fighting for her life… and he’s telling me she’s dead?“I don’t believe you…” I said, rubbing my hands over my face.
