Chapter Two

Being in the Navy for five years has its perks, but also has its flaws. Like, as being shipped to different countries away from family. It's great to see new places, but disheartening to be away from loved ones, who will only worry daily if you would come home or not. But for Kaleb Songs, it was quite a situation for him. Most of his family has nothing to do with him, because of his choice of joining the Navy, and the only person in his life that loved and supported him passed away. His life changed when his wife Joanna died.

Joanna was a lovely woman. Beautiful wavy blonde hair that flows in the wind, eyes that are brighter than the blue sky, and plump lips that always tasted like coconut. Kaleb loved her dearly and did everything to create a happy life. Unfortunately, after five in a half years of marriage with the love of his life, that love was taken away from him.

It was a Saturday night, and Joanna was heading home from working a long shift at the hospital. When a terrible accident happened. Well, it wasn't an accident at all. It was a 'Wrong place at the wrong time kind of thing. His wife stopped for gas when suddenly a fight started between two men. Joanna did not pay any mind to the middle-aged men, she was always minding her own business. She walked into the store to get some food for Kaleb when one of the men ran into the store. Then something happened, a gun went off. It was loud and echoed throughout the store. But the one man was fine. He was already on a different aisle.

Joanna was shot. There was a wound right where her heart was, and it killed her straight away.

Kaleb was awake at home, waiting for his wife to be home to have a nice dinner and movie together. He had a gut feeling something was wrong....and at that exact moment when the cops called and told him what happened.

"What's going on, Brad? I didn't expect to get a call from you at this time." He said, knowing the call was about his wife.

Brad cleared his voice, it was shaky and filled with sadness. Kaleb knew that his beautiful wife wasn't with them anymore. "Kaleb...there was a fight at Star's grocery store. Joanna was there.....and she was shot."

Kaleb's heart sank to his stomach, and he asked the question that he already knew the question too. "Is she okay?"

Silence on his end of the phone.

"BRAD! TELL ME! IS SHE OKAY?" Tears started to roll down his cheeks, as he fell to his knees. A grown man, being close to 6'7 and weighing 250 pounds, fell to the ground in tears. He was a tough man, but losing someone who was a jewel to him.....just cut his heart into many pieces.

His friend Brad could not reply. It was tough even having to make this type of call. No body should have to lose a love one, because of somebody's ignorance.

That call was made over 5 years ago, and the day of Joanna's death still haunts Kaleb. The reason that he joined the Navy seal in the first place, was because of the murder of his wife.

"Hey man, deep in thought?"

Kaleb's daydreaming came to an end as one of his buddies walked through the door, with two cups of coffee. "I guess you could say that, what's up man?"

The middle-aged man handed Kaleb one of the cups of coffee, before sitting down on the couch. "Well....we received a call. Not sure how this involves with what we do, but I told them that you were an expert with finding people." He cleared his voice again, taking a sip of his coffee.

"And? what's the problem Jared?" Kaleb's eye brow lifted in question, as he crossed his arms.

Jared began explaining about the situation. "My old bud from back in highschool called, his pregnant fiance ran away and he cannot find her at all."

A run-away woman who is carrying a child? this was quite an odd thing. Something about that just didn't sound right. "What does he want us to do? if she is above 21, legally she can be on her own."

"The cops aren't doing anything and he sounds in distress. I do owe him after what he did for me years ago." His friend says, taking the last sip of his pumpkin spice latte.

This was quite a situation. Jacob sounds a bit fishy and the fact his wife ran away with nothing....doesn't set right with him.

What could he even do...chasing a grown woman would make him seem like a complete stalker. But if she was in any danger, it would be best if he finds and takes her into safety.

"Would you do it? look for Katie and take her back home?" Jared was sitting back, bouncing his leg waiting for an answer.

'Katie. What a name. Why would she run away from somebody that she was about to marry? was the guy abusing her?' those thoughts ran through Kaleb's head and before he actually completely thought about it, he blurted out "I'll do it. I will go and search for Katie."

And at that moment, the only fear that he had was...will he only put Katie's life into more danger by looking for her?

Hopefully Kaleb would be able to find this young woman without causing or getting into any trouble with Jacob. His job was to serve and protect, and he is going to abide by that.

This was the chance that he had to risk. A risk to bring the young woman into safety.....even if it puts his on life on the line.
