Alpha Liam's POV

How is it possible?

After eighteen long years of carrying my pain, of living with it, breathing through it, breaking beneath it, I finally found someone who could ease it. Not with potions, not with healing spells or sacred herbs. Just… physical contact.

Just like that?

I stared at her as she lay beside me, sound asleep. Her chest rose and fell in a steady rhythm, her face peaceful, almost angelic in the soft light pouring through the curtains.

She looked so ordinary. No glowing marks, no scent of power, no trace of a wolf. Just a girl. A simple girl.

But how? How was she doing it?

Each time her skin touched mine, the storm inside me quieted. The fire in my chest dulled. The darkness in my mind lifted just enough for me to breathe.

What are you, Jane? A witch? A cursed child? A blessing in disguise?

I desperately want to find answers but I couldn’t tell. I don't even know what to call her. But I had to know. I needed to know. Who she truly was, what she had in her blood, in her soul… because no one has ever made my pain retreat like this. Not even the moon goddess or the healers.

Carefully, I lifted my arm from around her and slid out of the bed. I moved in silence, not wanting to wake her. She stirred slightly, murmured something in her sleep, but didn’t open her eyes.

I paused, watching her again. She looked like a mere human but something within me says she wasn't mere, she wasn’t just anyone. And I would find out exactly what she was. Even if I had to tear through the past to do it.

As I stepped into the living room, I was met with Caleb’s familiar smirk, the kind that told me he was about to say too much. He leaned against the doorway like he’d been waiting for me.

“You’re here early,” I said, eyeing him. “Don’t you have a pack to tend to?”

He shrugged, the grin never leaving his face. “What could be more important than the news of you buying a rejected maid at the festival?”

I narrowed my eyes. “Rejection isn’t the end. You know that.”

He chuckled. “What are you now? A charity alpha? Saving rogues and rejected maids from the cruel world?”

“I needed her for something,” I said without glancing at him.

“For what, Liam?” His tone sharpened, the curiosity behind his words turning serious.

“That’s none of your business, Caleb,” I replied flatly.

“As much as I care about you and whatever reason you think you have, you shouldn’t have done it publicly,” he said, stepping toward me. “You’re an aspiring president. Do you have any idea what that looks like from the outside?”

I folded my arms. “How does buying a maid damage my reputation?”

He blinked. “Because you have enough staff in this house. Buying a rejected maid out of nowhere, at a public festival raises questions. Questions I know the press will ask.”

“Are you asking those questions, or are you just speaking for the people?”

He sighed. “Whatever you're thinking this is, stop. The election should be your priority, not some... fantasy.”

I scoffed, turning away from him. “You think I bought her out of pity? Then you don’t know me at all.”

He followed behind. “Then why, Liam? Why her?”

I paused, finally stopping in the middle of the hallway. I didn’t want to say it, but I needed to.

“She’s connected to my heart curse. Somehow.”

Caleb froze. “What?”

“I’m not sure how, or why, but... her touch helps. It relieves the pain. The ache I’ve been living with for eighteen years… it fades when she’s near.”

For once, Caleb didn’t have a clever comeback. He stared at me, processing.

“If you’re serious,” he said slowly, “then you need to speak to the Moon Goddess. She’d know if this maid is something more.”

I shook my head. “I’ll figure it out on my own. I don’t want to spark more rumors than necessary.”

“Liam, you can’t act on your own anymore. This is bigger than you. You need answers and you need them fast.”

I turned to him fully, the emotion rising in my voice. “And where was the Moon Goddess when I was suffering? When I carried this curse, this pain, alone for eighteen damn years? What did she ever do to help me?”

He fell silent.

“I'm doing this my own way. I would decide what to do with her.”

“Just… be careful,” Caleb said, softer this time. “Be on the safe side.”

I looked past him, toward the hallway that led back to my room. To the room that she was in.

“That girl is the safe side,” I said.

“So what will you do about the rumor?” Caleb asked, arms crossed, his voice laced with concern.

I raised an eyebrow. “What rumor exactly?”

He hesitated for a beat, then said, “That you want to use her heart to replace yours.”

I blinked. “What?”

The words echoed in my head like a slap. Use her heart to replace mine? How could people twist things into something that dark? How is that even possible?

“You know that’s not true,” I said, my voice low and sharp.

“I know,” Caleb replied quickly. “But the other presidential candidates don’t. And they’re running with it, using it for their own advantage. They've turned it into a weapon. A public spectacle.”

I scoffed and turned away. “Let them use it. Let them dig their own grave while it lasts. I have more important things to focus on.”

He stepped forward, frustration simmering beneath his calm. “You know how hard we worked to get here, Liam. The blood and the sacrifice. Don’t throw it away because of some… confusion.”

I turned back to him, eyes narrowed. “Very soon, that confusion will be the answer.”

Caleb stared at me. “Why are you being so stubborn? I'm not even interested in the girl. I just want you to focus on the election just like before.”

“Maybe,” I added coldly, “you should focus on your work as the campaign manager and stop meddling in my private affairs.”

“Maybe I will stop when your private affairs stop meddling in the election,” he replied.

The room fell quiet as I refused to reply him. I didn't have to explain myself to him. The explanation I gave is enough for now. Whether he understands or not, I have to focus on Jane. I have to get answers.

And whether the world understood it or not, Jane was no longer just a rejected maid. She was the key to something big. Something I hadn't yet understand.

  • Breaking the Alpha's curse    Jane

Jane “You are a curse in human form,” his words were still ringing in my head as I sat on the edge of my bed. Night came so fast and I was supposed to go to him. But I couldn’t go, not after what he said. He wants me to stay away from him after telling me I was his pain relief. What kind of a weirdo was he? He called me a curse. His words clutched my chest tightly. If he saw me as a curse, why did he buy me from Alpha Theo? Why did he refer to me as his pain relief? When I thought I was starting to understand him, he insulted me and pushed me away. So I've decided not to go to him tonight. He can't push me away and expect me to draw to him again. Never. He might have bought me and save me from disgrace but his insults are more than I can bear. Lost in my thoughts, I didn’t expect the door to burst open. But it did. And the worst part was Alpha Liam strode in like a storm, his eyes blazing.“You didn’t come,” he said simply, like he couldn’t quite believe it.Shocked to see him,

  • Breaking the Alpha's curse    Jane

JaneAs I walked through the hallway, my mind drifted to the old book I found in Alpha Liam's study. That book had something I should know. The way I reacted to that book was not ordinary. The way it seemed to hum in my veins. I needed to see it again. I needed to understand why it felt like a part of me. It could answer my questions, if not all of them. With determination, I went to his study again. I shouldn't have gone back there. But something kept pulling me there. I don't know if it was curiosity or a supernatural connection. The door creaked as I stepped inside. The scent of him still lingered in the air, strong with something darker. It felt like a warning but I didn't adhere to it. Instead, I moved swiftly. I moved toward the shelf where I’d first seen the burnt book, my fingers trembling as I reached for the stack. I searched through the first stack, then the second and found nothing. “It should be here,” I told myself as I searched through it again. “Looking for somet

  • Breaking the Alpha's curse    Jane

JaneAs I stirred awake, I looked around me as the memories of last night flooded my mind. Alpha Liam! I jumped up to see him but to my greatest disappointment, I woke up alone.I was on the bed and the sheets beside me were cold. His scent lingered faintly in the air but the alpha was nowhere to be found.A sudden tightness gripped my chest. I wanted to know if he slept well. To know if his pain had relieved him. To hold him this morning if he still needed me to. But he left. He left before I woke up. I got up slowly, pulled on my dress, and stepped into the hallway. Because he didn't wake up beside me doesn't mean I can't check up on him in his room. So with determination, I went to his room. Another wave of disappointment washed over me when I got there. His room was empty, the fireplace was dying. Where would he be this morning?Maybe his study.I turned and made my way to his study, hoping he’d be there buried in books. But he wasn't there either. Where was he? I wondered as

  • Breaking the Alpha's curse    Alpha Liam

Alpha Liam's POV I woke before the sun did. Even before the birds started singing. Before anyone in the castle stirs awake. The room was still as I turned to the person beside me. Last night's event flooded my mind like a wave. My heart ache started, I dragged myself to Jane's room, I kissed her and slept beside her. Despite the storm in my mind, the room was too quiet. If not for the sound of her soft breathing beside me, I wouldn't have believed that last night happened. She was curled beside me, her head resting near my chest, her hand lightly over my shirt, as if it belonged there. And the most unsettling part was that it felt like it did. My heart, the most traitorous thing, beat more steadily than it had in months. The ache that usually clawed at my ribs during the night was gone. It was silenced all because she had touched and held me.I can't believe that I crawled back to her after doing everything in my power to stay away. I don't know why things just end up the way I d

  • Breaking the Alpha's curse    Jane

Jane's POV I thought the dream had ended until something gripped my leg.It was hard and desperate. Tight enough to take me from the dream world to the real world. I jolted upright, screaming as my heart was still racing from the dream and the grip.As I opened my eyes, it was no longer smoke or fire that surrounded me. It was darkness. Real and heavy darkness. The type that blind your eyes and heart at once. Quickly, I turned on the lamp beside my bed. And there, at the edge of my bed, was a figure. My breath stopped as I saw Alpha Liam. He was on his knees, clutching my leg like an anchor, his face masked with pain. His whole body trembled slightly, and his muscles became tense. One of his arms was wrapped tightly around his chest, the other grasping my thigh as if I was the only thing keeping him grounded.“Jane,” he said, groaning. The low, ragged sounds pulled from his throat scared the hell out of me. The way his head hung down, the way he clutched his chest reminded me of

  • Breaking the Alpha's curse    Jane

Jane's POV I stood in front of Alpha Liam’s door, my hand hovering over the handle. Should I go in? Would he want to see me after chasing me out like a dog? Was I ready to face him? To be honest, I was mad at him for yelling at me. One minute, he is normal, the next, he is abnormal. He acts like someone with bipolar issues. I turned the handle and stepped inside, bracing myself for whatever happens. He was already sitting on the edge of the bed, shirt half-buttoned, hair still damp from a shower. His eyes were on me the second I entered. Surprisingly, it was not cold or dark. It was like he was waiting for me to come.“I'm here to sleep with you,” I said without thinking. He patted the space beside him. “Sit.”Now he wants me to sit beside him. What is going on with this man? Did carrying the weight of a pack cause him to have a twisted brain?I hesitated for just a moment, then crossed the room and sat beside him, not too close, but close enough to feel the heat radiating from hi
