Heading into work the next day, Robyn found Drew's smiling face by the entrance and instantly smiled too. It was unnerving how her cousin who liked being called her big brother and her real big brother brought different reactions to her.
Whenever she saw August she wanted to run away and hug him at the same time. When it came to Drew she just wanted to be around him. She did not blame August in any way. He was a good son and a good brother too.
When he found out his parents had kicked Robyn out of the house, he played the mediator. He tried to get their parents to reconsider but it fell on deaf years.
"She just disgraced this family and ruined her future and you want her to go unpunished?" Their father had said.
"I can't believe she was sleeping around." Their mother chimed in.
"Ro is not careless. She must have an explanation. And who is the father anyway?"
She had tried to reach out to her family. Only August called to check on her but after her father found out he was sending her money,he froze his accounts too.
She had gone to her father's house to ask him to unfreeze her accounts and on the medical insurance, they did not let her into the compound. The bleeding which had lightly started as spotting in the morning gave her a lot more nausea and lower abdominal pain.
She had started driving back but her car run out of gas. She started walking back and it started raining. The pain became worse to where she had to sit down. The bleeding was now a lot and she was scared. She trekked back to her car. She searched for her phone and found the battery dead. She started yelling and crying for help. A man offered her his phone and called her parents who ignored it. She tried to call August but it went to voicemail. She sent an SOS message to the family stating it was her and hoped at least the ones who did not block her would see. After almost three minutes Drew showed up after he tracked her car and took her to the hospital. She wanted to ask him how he got there fast but she was too weak.
She had passed out in the car on the way there. He picked her up bridal style into the emergency room.
She woke up with tubes hanging from her arms and one from her mouth and nose. She took the oxygen mask off and saw that someone was beside her bed.
"Hey don't take it off." Someone said and it was Drew. "I will get the doctor."
As he got back in, three more people walked in. It was her parents and her aunt Viv.
"Hey baby girl how are you feeling?"
"I'm okay. What happened?"
"You passed out in the car."
"Oh." She said as she started to remember what had happened and the doctor walked in.
"Miss Robyn Thomasine Hachi?"
"Yes."
"How are you feeling? Any nausea, headache?"
"A little."
"Good. You will be discharged soon, make sure you take the antibiotics and pain killers."
"Doctor! My baby! Is the baby okay?" Robyn said gasping. "What happened to my baby?"
The doctor looked around the room as everyone had their faces down.
"I'm sorry Robyn. You bled so much, you had a miscarriage. I'm so sorry." The doctor said looking at her sympathetically.
"That's not true. Drew please tell me he is wrong." Robyn sobbed.
"It's okay my girl. It will be okay." Her mother said patting her on the back.
"You will get through this." Her father said holding her hand that was not hooked to any tubes. "We will take you home and then you will go back to school." Her father said. She shrugged them both off anger rising. She could not believe what they were saying.
"That's all you care about isn't it? You're actually glad I lost the pregnancy aren't you? I lost my baby" She asked them anger and disappointment lacing her voice.
"Robyn....."
"Get out! Get out now!!" She screamed at them.
"But Robyn...."
"Aunt Viv please make them leave. Drew if you care about me, don't let them come near me."
"Robert I think you guys need to leave. Don't agitate her more." Aunt Viv said.
Robyn cried some more into Drew's shoulder who was hugging her. She could not believe all this was happening to her. The doctor gave her a sleeping pill to help calm her down.
After she woke up again, her uncle Peter and Drew were beside her.
"Hey RT, can you walk?"
"Yes."
"Good. They discharged you so we're leaving."
"I'm not going to their house! Just drop me at a motel."
"No my angel." Her uncle said. "We're not dropping you off at a motel and we're not taking you to your parents' house. We're taking you home with us. Is that okay?"
She nodded and hugged Drew tight.
*******
After some counseling and intensive therapy, Robyn broke out of her depression state.
"Paps can you give me a loan?" She asked him one afternoon
"Loan? For what?"
"I'm going back to school and I'm getting that degree."
"That's amazing. But sorry to bring it up, your father already paid for the five years your program takes."
"Yeah. I'm not going to sign it out. It needs my signature and his to send to the university. "
"So you don't want it?"
"No. Just think of it as sponsored education. I will pay it back slowly,in instalments. I will get a job and go to school. Please."
"Robyn I can just pay it. You're my niece. You're my child."
"I know Paps. But you have done so much for me already and I don't wanna take advantage."
"You're not! We are family!"
"I know. But please let me pay back. Please." She gave him her best pouty face.
"Fine. On one condition..."
"Anything."
"Call August on your new number. Your brother is dying to talk to you. It's not his fault...."
"I know, they blacklisted my number on his phone too and he didn't know."
"Then why won't you see him?"
"Because he will ask me to move back there."
"He promised he won't. He just misses you. You haven't seen him or any of them properly in over two months love." Peter had said.
"Fine. Let him come."
"Good we have a deal. And I promise I will not let them talk to you till you're ready or say you want to."
"Deal. And thank you."
"Don't sweat it. Your aunt and Drew are not back yet?"
"Yeah." They heard a car approaching then. "They are here."

Robyn smiled at the fond memories, her Aunt and Uncle had been more of her parents than her real parents.
She had completed her university and gotten a job at her Uncle's company. She had only told Drew and Ella about who the father was and sworn them to secrecy.
She did not even tell the father what had happened to her or that she had become pregnant. He had called that night a drunken mistake anyway.
"What are you thinking about RT?" Drew asked her as they rode the elevator.
"Nothing much."
"If you say so. What are you doing after work today?"
"Nothing. Let's hangout." She did remember she had made plans to see where Beau lived but she was not in a mood to see him.
"Can we go house hunting around lunch?"
"House hunting? You want to move out of the Hachi residence?"
"Yeah. I mean I love our parents but I can't get laid with them around." Robyn laughed.
"Don't laugh. Plus it's close to the hospital I will be working at." Drew said wiggling his eyebrows.
"You're moving to Rares city full time?"
"Yes! I opted for my gynaecology residency to be here."
"Wow! I'm so proud of you big bro!"
"Of course you are. I'm awesome."
They both laughed and Drew whistled as they passed by the top lobby and one co worker was passing by in a very tight fitting short skirt. It looked so good on her curves.
"Eww. Don't be dirty!" Robyn faked disgust.
They went straight to the conference room and found it all set and Uncle Peter already there. He believed in being first in any meeting.
"Good morning Robyn! And Drew is here? Did I forget bring your son to work day?" Robyn laughed.
"Ha ha. Very funny Paps. I'm here for Robyn not you." Drew said smirking.
"Wow. Do I mean little to you?" Peter said gasping and they all laughed.
"I start work tomorrow Dad. I just wanted to see how you guys were doing."
"Now that you're pursuing your medical passion, what happens to your business administration degree?"
"Robyn is only using her finance paper, what about her chemistry degree?"
"Hey this is about you don't crucify me to Ceaser." They laughed again.
"I have mad children." Uncle Peter concluded as the others started piling into the room and Drew left the conference room.
Robyn's phone vibrated and she saw she had gotten an email from August.
*"Don't ignore this Ro, please. Mom and Dad really need to see you. Can you just call them please. Don't make me give them your number without consent."*
She gripped the edge of the table till her knuckles were turning white. She took deep breaths trying to slow her heart rate.
She felt someone grab her hand and it was her Uncle looking at her worriedly. He gave her a questioning look and she nodded smiling.
She was going to have to change her number again. Or maybe it was time to face the people who gave birth to her and let her down too. She had no idea what to do.
After house hunting at lunch with Drew, Robyn sat in the coffee room of the office with Tony. She was telling him more of what Ella liked or disliked. She was really going for the win."So Ella does not like classical music?""No. She does not.""Why not? She seems like she could.""She just does not okay.""Alright. Calm down." Tony said sighing. "By the way what I'm I wearing on the date tomorrow?""Clothes would be good.""Don't be sarcastic. Last time you helped me and your boy toy arranged most things.""Did you just say boytoy?" Robyn laughed out loud. "We are just friends."Tony looked at her with disbelief tainting his face. "Are you sure? You looked pretty cozy the other...""Shut your cake hole Tony. We're friends nothing more and if you want to get Ella, you will stay in my good books and to do that you need to stop talking about such nonsense." She said huffing.
Riding up the elevator at Planar industries office building with Peter, Robyn had a feeling she was about to have a really awkward meeting. For one thing her uncle disliked James and the feeling was mutual. They were directed to the conference room and as they walked in they saw three more people already in and one of them was Beau."Robyn? What are you doing here?""Could ask you the same thing.""He called me here." Beau said making horns with his fingers.Robyn knew for sure this was going to be more than awkward. James was Beau's stepfather and they did not get along very well. That was why Beau lived with his father and not his mother. He partially blamed James for his parents' divorce. His relationship with his mother Lea, had only gotten a little better when he turned twenty. As they asked each other why they were all here James walked in with a smug look flanked by his other son Colin&
Staring at the cream and gold wallpaper in the kitchen as the kettle was being filled with tap water, Robyn wondered why she had chosen these colors in the first place. She had made a good choice because it all looked really good in the kitchen. Her tummy had started hurting again and she thought if she drank warm milk it would be better. She did not particularly like powdered milk, but that was all they had left since Ella had forgotten to buy fresh milk again. She switched it on and waited. She could not help think back to Beau. He seemed a little troubled with the breakup from Liz the girlfriend. Is that what loving someone meant? Being sad when it goes wrong? She thought he should be relieved since there was no one holding him back. She had experienced that before, a long time back before she almost lost her own life. Before she believed that certain people were meant to be together. Before she grew and woke up. Maybe she was a
The man sitting across from her oozed confidence and a high temperature of arrogance that she had only seen in her father. She wanted to rip that balloon of ego into tiny pieces and let them fly into the wind to be whisked away. Never to be found."Please don't do that Robyn.""Do what?""Look at me like that.""Sure. Tell me why you wanted to have this time with me.""You don't like me at all do you?""I don't dislike you. I just wish you and your father would stop messing with Beau.""I don't mess with my little brother.""Yeah right." Robyn scoffed.Colin clenched his jaw a different emotion clouding his eyes. "I will only tell you this once, I'm not my father.""If you say so.""If anything I envy Beau, even when we were little. You always had his back. You always worried about him. Never me. I was always the bad guy. He always had you."
As they drove up the concrete road, Robyn stared out at the trees, still very green mighty and tall. This used to be a gravel road only they must have added the concrete recently. She saw the swing tree house she and August had played in with Drew and other friends. She became a little more nervous with every moment they got close to the house. She started shaking more as they got closer. Drew held her closer and rubbed her back slowly. Peter and Vivian turned around to look at her, worry evident on their faces. She smiled reassuringly at them."We can turn around if you're not up for this my angel. Right Pete?" Her aunt said."In a heartbeat love.""No. It's okay. We're already here.""We're so proud of you Robyn."As they approached the house, she saw her parents outside holding hands while her mother seemed to shift nervously. August had a smile etched on his face.
Robyn pressed her hands together to keep from fidgetting. This had to be some sick joke or maybe they heard it wrong. She looked at Colin who had an amused expression on his face."Why do you seem to find this amusing?""Because arranged marriages are so long ago.""Exactly! You should be with the woman you're in love with. I don't really believe in a one true love but this is extreme.""Tell me something Robyn, I'm I that bad of a person that you'd be so upset about marrying me?""No. It's not that. I just don't think it's a good idea.""Then would it not benefit us both to be with someone we know well and are honest to than be with strangers?""Oh my goodness you're right. It's not like I have someone to hold on to." She said looking away. The realisation hit her hard. They sat there thinking about how being married to each other would be benefici
The cool breeze blowing over her body only made her relax more into the bed. She heard some shuffling around beside her and opened her eyes. She was unaware of where she was at first. The light coming from the curtains caught her eye and she recognised where she was. Robin sat up as Drew got up to leave her room. He was trying to tiptoe out and not wake her up. She chuckled at this and he turned quickly."Sorry angel, I didn't mean to wake you.""It's okay. I'm awake.""Alright. How did you sleep?""Really good. You?""Really good. Come on let's get breakfast.""What time is it?""Maybe after nine, considering mom has been up here twice waking us.""Alright. I will take a bath first. Get out of my room.""I need to freshen up too. See you downstairs."Robyn's mind drifted to what had happened the previous day and she sighed letting the warm water wash away the stress. She remembered she had planned to have lunch with Colin. She quickly got dressed glad that her Aunt took pleasure in
The early afternoon sunlight hit her face perfectly as she looked up with eyes closed. It reminded her why she had loved this place in the first place. It calmed her, be it day or night. She was glad it had not changed ownership at all.She breathed in so hard as the smell of earth, grass and just nature in general wafted to her nose and she smiled. Colin had brought them for an amazing picnic"Okay, tell me the story.""What story?""About you and Beau. You used to be close till sometime when I was ten or so..." Robyn said glancing at him."If I tell you that, will you tell me why you seem to always run away from him?""I don't run. I just avoid him.""Uhuh. Especially when he is with someone else....""Fine, I will tell you."Colin grinned at her. "Fair enough. So it started one night when our mum was arguing with Beau's dad. By then he was dad to both of us. It escalated and mum let slip that I was not his son. We were both shocked so we run upstairs to Beau's room and he was crying
