Sarah's pov

Thursday night came faster than I wanted. I spent the days between the interview and my first official shift researching the Steel Vultures and their rivals, trying to prepare for what I might see or hear while working at the Nest.

Marcus had called twice asking how I was holding up and if I needed anything. I told him I was fine and just needed time to process Tommy's death. The lie tasted bitter but I couldn't risk him finding out what I was doing. He'd shut down my investigation immediately and probably try to get me suspended for going undercover without authorization.

I arrived at the Vulture's Nest at five thirty, half an hour before my shift started. Betty was already there setting up the bar and checking inventory.
