CHAPTER THREE

The bell for dinner rung as an army of hungry girls rushed downstairs. Elena groaned the hundredth time as she reluctantly stood up from her bed.

She wasn't hungry. Food wasn't on her mind but she still had to go to the dining to avoid the nuns getting all stressed up.

Luke had finally totally believed her about my newly found gift. Of course, he just had to. Probably just like everyone else would have felt, he still considered it cool.

She still found her new 'gift' hard to believe but damn, it was real. So she was going to prepare to live her life now with the fact that she could tell if people were being truthful or not.

She sat at the dining, her mind constantly wavering. She was going to meet Luke again after dining to nag him. The familiar smell of roasted Turkey brought her back to the dining.

Roasted Turkey was made at Amigo not just for Christmas. It was a tradition for them to have roasted Turkey at dinner whenever it was someone's birthday.

"Happy Birthday," she said, hoping whoever was celebrating her birthday would reply.

"Thank you" a little girl replied, slightly blushing. She was cute, she had to admit.

Elena smiled in return as she made her way out of the dining. She wasn't going to force herself to eat, at least not yet.

"Elena, you aren't eating?" She heard a voice stop her as she turned to meet one of the nuns. Sister Juan.

"I'm not hungry," she said trying to sound as convincing.

"Tonight's food is very nice. I've had a taste,"she tried to persuade her.

False.

"I'm good," she replied, trying to keep the laughter in. Maybe this gift was going to be cool. She smirked as she made her way to Amigo garden.

"Lukeeee," Elena yelled, almost jumping at him. He looked surprised as he laughed, hugging her back.

It was getting dark at Amigo and the only thing that illuminated the environment were the light bulbs coupled with the moon. The wind was chilly, the trees shedding leaves as they shivered.

"You're weird."

"Guess what?" She asked pulling away from the hug.

"You finally passed maths?" He asked grinning.

Elena kicked him. "No, idiot. I finally think my gift might be cool."

"Great" he said with no enthusiasm. "Told ya."

"Yea, whatever," she said, turning to leave. "Well, good night."

"That's all?" He asked, his hands on his hips.

She shrugged. "Good Night."

"Get out."

She flipped her hair as she began walking in the direction of the girls' dorm.

"Hey!" he yelled.

"What?" Elena laughed as she turned to face him, hands on her waist. "What is it?"

"Come back here," he gestured with his hands. "Let's have a little chat."

She shook her head as she returned back to his side.

"So let's get this straight," he began as she sat down. "I get that you now have this power and all but there are going to be limitations."

"What nonsense are you spewing this time?"

"I want to lie and have you not figure out," he said, Elena laughing. "So with that being said, whenever you're around me you'll have to block your ears."

"And why should i do that?"

"Because i love lying to you."

False.

"False," she grinned. "Oh, oops."

"Elena-"

"Go to bed, Luke," she got up, laughing. "See you tomorrow."

He sighed as he watched her figure disappear, this time not calling her back until he was sure she wouldn't be able to hear even if he did.

Elena stepped out of the school bus as she sighed. She looked out for Ivy but didn't see her in the bus. She was probably there but just didn't see her.

"Ivy!" Elena yelled spotting her getting into class.

"Oh hey," she stopped as she walked over.

"I didn't see you in the bus, what's up?"

"Oh," she said, chucking lightly. "My dad offered to drop me off."

True.

"Oh okay," I said. "See ya."

She smiled as she turned heading to class. She trusted the voice now, she really did. Her smile weirdly almost disappeared immediately she saw June walking towards her.

She wasn't at her. She was confused. She didn't know what to feel. She shouldn't trust a stupid voice over her best friend, right? It was crazy but something just didn't feel right. It was crazier that June's name was wrong.

"Hey, Elena," she said, smiling as she walked towards her."What was that about yesterday?"

Oh, yesterday. She freaked out almost yelling when the voice in her head rung. She had left stumbling on words leaving both June and Daniel confused.

"My bad," she said almost whispering. "What did Daniel say?"

"Nothing actually. I guess he was just surprised."

"Oh okay," she said as an awkward silence fell between them. It was weird. They hardly ran out of what to say.

"Um, June," Elena started, trying to laugh. "Your name's June, right?"

June's expression was unreadable. "Eh? Of course, my name is June."

False.

"Oh."

"Of course," she laughed, nervously. "What sorta question is that?"

"Don't mind me," Elena joined in the nervous laughter. "Err, how old are you?"

"How dare you forget your best friend's age," she said, her hands on her chest dramatically. "Hey, what's with the weird questions."

"I know right," Elena ran her hands through her hair. "What am i even thinking, forget it."

She scoffed. "I'm seventeen, nut head."

False.

Shoot. Not again.

"Of course, I know," she said, faking a laugher as much as she could, her hands slapping her back.

"I'm off now. Got classes. See ya."

"Okay love," she said blowing her kisses as she hopped off to class.

Why was the voice messing with her head? First, June's name was wrong and then her age.

She couldn't be more confused.

The library seemed like the only place she could go and still be sane. Less people, less voices ringing in her head.

She bit her pen as she stared at the maths in front of her. She should at least use the time to improve on her maths. Getting a 'B' wouldn't be so bad.

"You need a hand?" a voice asked behind her as she turned to see Daniel.

Holy shit.

"No," she stammered. "I'm good."

"Your book says otherwise" he said, picking up her notebook exposing her poor maths.

Elena ran her hands through her neck as a blush crept towards her cheeks.

He took a seat opposite her, sharing the same table. "We met yesterday."

"Yeah." A good first impression, wasn't it?

He chuckled. "You're cute."

Holy heavens. She was just called cute by her crush. Could she scream?

"I'm not usually this dumb," she said, awkwardly. "It's just maths."

"I'd love help you with that," he said as she managed to smile in return.

True.

She was sure she wouldn't survive this. His perfectly tanned skin matching perfectly with his dark brown eyes meeting hers occasionally. Focus!

Elena spent her afternoon in the library, Daniel teaching her maths. She tried her best to concentrate and not ask to many questions.

It felt nice. When they were done, he smiled at her and patted her head although that felt weird.

She stood up to leave, her phone immediately beeping.

She checked it to see a message from June.

Bestiee❤: Where the hell are you? Meet me at the cafeteria.

Elena smiled.

Elena: At the library, omw.

She slung her backpack over her shoulder as she headed out of the library. She needed to get to the bathroom first. Her face needed washing after blushing so much.

The bathroom door made no sound as she got in. She walked over to the mirror to look at herself. Her hands went to the knob only for her to stop. She heard a voice coming from one of the toilets. Someone was on the phone.

"Everything's going on smoothly. I am monitoring her."

True.

That was definitely June. She thought of giving her a scare but stopped, suddenly struck by what she heard.

"Elena, I mean Courtney, is fine. My eyes are on her. It's my job anyways and yes, she has no idea."

True.
