"Oh My God, Elena this is insane" Luke squealed, shaking her. "This is soo coool." "This is not cool." "It is. Damn, you can tell when people are saying the truth or not," he said, Elena arching an eyebrow. "It's not cool to know when people are lying. I mean we are humans, let's all lie when we want to. I don't want to be some stupid human truth detector." Elena Harper has just one wish- to graduate high school as a regular teen. Attends a private school, get good grades in all subjects except from maths, has two amazing best friends, has a crush on one of the most popular guys in school...and lives at an orphanage. When she wakes up one morning able to detect when a lie is told, her dream to live as a normal teen seems impossible as she now has to live with the fact that she had become a human lie detector. Through her newly found powers, she figures out that everything around her, including her best friend's name is a lie.

CHAPTER ONE
Elena Harper let out a groan as she turned off the alarm clock by her bedside.    "Dude, I need to sleep."   "I'm sorry," she mumbled to her roommate as she grabbed her toothbrush.    Reluctantly, she stood up, her eyes lazily scanning all her roommates still sleeping.  Seven sleeping peaceful souls. Why did she have to attend a private school?   She let out a final groan as she crawled towards the bathroom. Her eyes ran through the huge signage on the bathroom door. AMIGO.    She smiled.   Elena had been living at Amigo for as long as she could remember. Amigo was an orphanage. It was established decades ago by catholic sisters and had been active ever since. Elena hadn't really bothered about how she got to Amigo-her parents were probably dead or didn't want her like every other person at Amigo.

CHAPTER TWO
Elena sat on her favourite chair at Amigo Garden right beside the waterfall. She picked the tiny pebbles around her throwing them into the waterfall, watching them drown. It had always been something that managed to take her mind off things temporarily. It was like watching her troubles drown with the stone. Her backpack was still hugging her tightly as she was still in her uniform. The day’s events kept on replaying in her mind.  “Elena," Luke called out walking over. He was still in the outfit from earlier- dark blue jeans and a grey t-shirt except that he now had a black hoodie on too.  She glanced at  him as she sighed.  “I...” “Shhh,” she shushed him as she placed her finger on his lips. “Don't. Please just don’t say anything.” He nodded as he slowly sat beside her. She mentally th

CHAPTER THREE
The bell for dinner rung as an army of hungry girls rushed downstairs. Elena groaned the hundredth time as she reluctantly stood up from her bed.  She wasn't hungry. Food wasn't on her mind but she still had to go to the dining to avoid the nuns getting all stressed up.  Luke had finally totally believed her about my newly found gift. Of course, he just had to. Probably just like everyone else would have felt, he still considered it cool.  She still found her new 'gift' hard to believe but damn, it was real. So she was going to prepare to live her life now with the fact that she could tell if people were being truthful or not.  She sat at the dining, her mind constantly wavering. She was going to meet Luke again after dining to nag him. The familiar smell of roasted Turkey brought her back to the dining.  Roasted Turkey was made at Amigo not just for Chri

CHAPTER FOUR
Elena stood there confused, unsure of what to think or feel.  Elena, i mean Courtney.  It wasn't her.  What was June talking about? It's my job anyways.  Since when did June have a job? Since when did any student of Dawson High have a part time job? "Oh Elena," June said, coming out of the toilet, obviously surprised to see her. She looked startled. "What are you doing here?"  Was she supposed to ask her? She didn't know what to say.  "I just came to wash my hands. I was about to go meet you in the cafeteria." "Oh," June flung her hands around her shoulders. "Okay, cool. Where have you been by the way?" "Just the library. Um...who were you talking to you?" Elena asked, almost scared of what next.  "Oh that," she replied, almost laughing light

CHAPTER FIVE
Elena slowly unrested her head from Lune's shoulder. She didn't want to think about anything. She didn't.  "True," she said. "My fairy head mother said it's true."  "Oh My God, this is huge!" He said. "And interesting."  Of course, you can say that.  "I didn't want to know."  "Oh," he said. "I'm sorry."  She sighed. "It's okay. So now my real name is supposed to be Courtney?"  "It's a nice name."  "Oh shut up, Luke," she grunted out. "How do they name children at Amigo?"  "Well, if the child previously had a name then that's what the child would be called. But if there's no name tag then they automatically give the child a name," he explained.  True.  "Oh?"  "Yeah," he continu

CHAPTER SIX
The path that led to Amigo was a quiet one. Few cars, few houses, few people- making Amigo more peaceful. Ever since Elena was little, she'd always loved walking on the path to relieve stress. When she was younger, it was whenever she was displeased. Whenever she didn't like the meal cooked or had fought with a kid. She walked a little further, accompanied as usual by the ever fresh breeze, endless scattered leaves, and the tiny pebbles begging to be kicked around. She found herself in a nearby park. The screams and squeals of happy people messing with her headphones. She and June had been there once. They both got their faces painted over and over again and ended up looking like a character from the walking dead. Elena smiled at the memory as it quickly vanished as she almost jumped. She pulled off my headphones turning to see who tapped her. She turned to see Daniel looking as handsome as ever.

CHAPTER SEVEN
Elena and June spent the afternoon together. They had the same classes and June kept on holding her so tight like she was scared she'd runaway. June might have noticed, Elena barely spoke. She made sure they didn't dive into any personal question. She didn't want to find herself keeping a distance from her again. She did all the random talking while she just chipped in.  Elena missed her. "Did I tell you about me and Daniel?" "Ayyyy," she screamed, pulling her closer. "Spill girl." Elena smiled. She told her how she saw him and ended up talking for hours. "You're cute," she cooed. "Just wait, he'll be asking you on a date soon." "I have no idea what you're talking about."  She tickled her, standing up. "I'll get us something to eat." Elena nodded, watching her dance towards the cou

"How was school?" Luke asked Elena, handing over a giant lollipop."You first. How was school?""Transfer to my school, if you want to know," he pouted.Elena shook her head. "You're in your final year, I've got one more year. Seriously?""It doesn't matter."She rolled her eyes. "Are you...""School was okay," he cut her off. "Tons of homework.""Mhmm. Same.""And?" Luke stared at her obviously not satisfied with her answer."Someone called June.""I called you about 30mins ago.""Seriously," Elena replied. "It was an unknown number. But I feel like she saved the number as unknown number.""Ohh.""Yeah," Elena replied, immediately wanting to change the topic. "Guess what?""I don't know.""Ivy invited me

CHAPTER NINE
Elena groaned internally on hearing the bell ring. Students poured out of classes, probably heading to their next classes. She remained in her seat, picking her books one after the other, almost reading what's on each book before putting it into her backpack.    It was a Friday. She had maths for three periods straight- no breaks. She groaned at the thought of it, again.   Probably when she was little, she had done something to her maths textbook or her maths teacher to make maths hate her that much. Anyways, the feeling was mutual.   Daniel had undeniably helped. At least some formulas came to her head quite easier and some numbers finally decided to dance in a rhythm she understood.   Nevertheless, she still hated maths.   "Hey," Daniel said, appearing out of nowhere, walking beside her.   "Oh Hi," she could have sworn she saw his arms almost go to her
