~Victor~

I lingered in the car after I arrived home late at night, staring at the divorce paper in my hands.

My signature and that of Isabelle’s were close to one another, and it reminded me of our wedding certificate; it had been exactly like it, but now, I could not even recall where the certificate was, and maybe that was the problem.

This felt like a bad dream that I really wanted to wake up from badly, because never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that Isabelle would grow the balls to demand for a divorce, let alone pursue it till the end. Her confidence in that courtroom was etched in my mind like art.

After I left the court, I went to the office, but I could barely concentrate on anything, so I left, but I couldn’t come home either. I didn’t want to come home just yet, so I went to the golf club and spent the remaining hours of the day there.

“This is a very late time to be returning home, Victor,” Laura, Victor’s mother stated firmly the moment I entered the well-furnished and large living room, startling Victor.

The living room was dimly light, so I had assumed that everyone had gone to bed. In truth, I had come this late so that I would not have to deal with anyone tonight.

“I had a busy day at the company,” I lied.

My mother stared deeply at me. “Your secretary informed me that you arrived later this afternoon, but you barely stayed at the office for up to an hour,” Laura said firmly, an indication that she knew damn well that I was lying to her.

“So you now ask my staff members to snitch on me?” I asked, displeased, and already making a mental note to caution my secretary, or probably issue her a query.

“I put her there so that she could give me the information I want, and when I want it,” Laura said.

She wasn’t in any way about to hide the fact that she intentionally planted the secretary there to monitor me, because she was not remorseful or ashamed that she did.

However, I was not only surprised, but I was extremely angry. “Mum, that is not right!” I said, my voice hitting the roof, not minding that it was almost midnight. “I am not a child, and this is very embarrassing,” I said, and meant it.

I was a full grown man and the last thing I expected to happen to me was my mother planting a spy on me. I could not exactly remember how my secretary managed to come about, and that was because all employments were handled by the HR department, except for special occasions, and if I had known that my mother would do this, I would have handpicked my secretary myself.

“Ever since you went against my wish and married Isabelle, I needed to be sure that you were not doing anything stupid,” Laura explained tightly.

“Anything stupid like what?” I asked.

“Like spending the family’s wealth on a lowlife like her, Victor!” Laura said. “For goodness sake, there are thousands of beautiful girls from the upper class chain whose family commands respect and authority, and you settled for that trash?” Laura added, her own anger building.

“That was four years ago,” I reminded my mother painfully.

I have had to endure the torture of being told that I left gold for stone when I married Isabelle instead for good four years, and I had hoped that my mother would stop taunting me with it as time flew by, but she just never did.

“And see where that decision of ours had landed this family! You have reduced the Walters’ family almost into nothingness because of your association with a nobody,” Laura whined bitterly. “Well, thank goodness that Sara came into the picture,” she added.

“And I hope you would stop drumming it into my ears now,” I said dully.

I just wanted to get to my room and take a look at the divorce paper again, but with the way my mother was going, that seemed unlikely. Heck, I did not even get the chance to talk to Isabelle one last time, and when I tried, she had treated me like a piece of trash.

“Speaking of Sara, she was here all evening waiting up for you,” she told me.

“What for?” I asked with utter disinterest and my mother noticed immediately.

“Victor, do not speak of your wife-to-be in such manner. “You should be excited that the mistake you made is being corrected, and even better because she is carrying your child…a Walters child,” my mother said.

I really wasn’t cut out for this at all. The last thing I wanted to talk about was another woman when I still held my divorce paper in my hand and the thoughts of Isabelle now flooding my mind. I had been wondering where she might have gone, and even how she had been able to pull the whole divorce process off, because I knew that she had no access to money; my family had ensured that.

“Not now, mum,” I said weakly, pleased with myself for taking the decision to stay out later than necessary, otherwise I would have had to deal with exactly what I was running away from.

Maybe I should have insisted on talking to Isabelle, because it was obvious that she had lost her mind and she had no idea whatsoever what she was doing, but then again, that would have meant subjecting myself to the disrespect and embarrassment she was dishing out to me.

“Why is that?” My mum asked.

“Because the divorce between Isabelle and I was finalized today!” I blurted out, letting a bit of my pain and anger show, but my mum was oblivious to this, as her mood instantly switched to excitement.

“That is some fantastic news!” She said instead.

I shook my head and opened my mouth to speak, but Mona, who had been standing on the stairs beat me to it.

“Before you start getting excited, mum, remember that a divorce is usually a fifty-fifty wealth split,” Mona said, ruining Laura’s mood instantly.

I hadn’t thought of that at all, and instantly, I checked the papers, even though my lawyer had declared it okay.

Much to my astonishment, right there in the divorce papers, Isabelle stated that she wanted nothing to do with my money, which meant that she divorced me without taking a dime from me.

“She didn’t take a dime from us,” I informed my mum and Mona, and they mouths also dropped open in shock.

~Victor~I got up really early, got dressed in my casual outfit and left the house before my mum or sisters could even get out of bed. When I had returned from saving Isabelle, my mum and Mona had tried to throw tantrums for abandoning Mona in the middle of the road and going for Isabelle even after promising otherwise, but I had simply blocked out their words, gone into my room and shut my door. When I drove out of the mansion, I called my secretary. “I am going to be absent today. Tell my team leaders to take the day off as well, and if you need anything, regardless of how urgent it might be, please do not call me; simply send an email,” I instructed her.“Mr. Victor, are you okay?” She asked with concern in her voice.“Just do as you are told,” I told her and ended the call. Then I drove right to the cabin away from town that I had privately bought for just myself and Isabelle. The first year we had met, I had fallen madly in love with Isabelle, so much so that I couldn’t get enoug

~Isabelle~Sasha had to practically drag me all the way to Barrister Andrew’s office even though I tried to tell her that it wasn’t exactly necessary. “We are going to be meeting in court in two days, Sash, what is the need?” I had asked, trying to persuade her.“It baffles me that you are taking this for granted, but I am not going to let you put your life at risk. We are going to see your lawyer, and take possible legal actions,” Sasha had declared firmly.“Sasha, you do know that filing a legal action incurs a lot of money, and I don’t have that. Besides, I am already spending a lot on this divorce thing with Victor,” I had told Sasha weakly. However, it was impossible to dissuade Sasha once she had already set her mind to doing anything. “You are not going to talk me out of this one, Belle,” Sasha had warned. “You have the means to afford these things, Isabelle. Why do you keep putting your life at risk? Why are you hiding who you are?!” Sasha had almost begun to blow hot.“You w

~Victor~I felt like a complete zombie as I drove out of Sasha’s neighborhood. Things with Isabelle had gotten worse than I had anticipated, and that was way different from what I had hoped would happen. At the same time, I was more than grateful that I had followed my instincts, because the thought of what might have happened to Isabelle sent shivers down my spine. My heart and face hardened as I thought of Mr. Hedge.I knew he was a dangerous man, but I never anticipated that he would that dangerous enough to try to kill Isabelle simply because she seemed to be standing in the way of me and Sara. I was getting close to the house, and I knew that if I wanted to do anything, I would have to do it before I got there, so I took my phone and dialed the number of a senior cop whom I had once made his acquaintance a while back.Thankfully, he picked on the first ring. “Mr. Victor, it is such a delight to be getting a call from you,” he said cheerful the moment the call connected.Upon hea

  • Bye Bye Mr. Ex, I’m With Mr. Next Now   Someone Tried To Kill Me

~Isabelle~I squeezed my eyes in pain as Victor left. I did not even bother keeping my ears alert to be certain that he had left the apartment, even though he now scared the hell out of me; I was too broken and my heart was too pained to even listen to anything else.I continued to close my eyes tightly, because I was trying every means possible not to cry; that was exactly how I was feeling deep inside. It was bad enough that Victor had hurt me in more ways than one since I filed for a divorce, and if he had simply let me go, I would not even have seen or known about any of this. Was this why he pushed for the divorce to be readdressed; so that he could drag me back to Seagate City and torment the heck out of me?What was the story behind this attack? It was obvious now that Victor either knew something or was even involved, and I could not even explain how that made me feel. I would never do anything to hurt or harm Victor or even any member of his family even though I deeply hated

  • Bye Bye Mr. Ex, I’m With Mr. Next Now   Hurtful Lies

~Isabelle~I wondered why I hadn’t even thought of that to begin it. Usually, in situations like this, after knocking him down, Victor would have been concerned about holding the attacker down and instantly calling the cops so that he would be arrested, and whoever sent him would be known as well, because I had no doubt that someone must have sent him to me.First of all, Sasha had lived in this very apartment for more than four years, and there had never been a break-in; not in her apartment or any of the other apartments situated in the neighborhood, and secondly, he waited until Sasha had left the house before breaking-in to attack me. It was very obvious that he did not come to steal or rob us; he intentionally came to kill me.The thought of it even made me shiver.“Can you answer that?” I asked when Victor kept mute.I caught a flicker of guilt in his eyes before it was quickly replaced by regret and sadness, and it made me even more uncomfortable? Did Victor have anything to do

  • Bye Bye Mr. Ex, I’m With Mr. Next Now   Voiced Emotions

~Isabelle~I heard a loud thud as I closed my eyes, which even made me confused, because I had been dreadfully anticipating a painful slit over my throat, or a piercing stab to my stomach, but the thud came as a shock, and more confusing was the fact that I did not feel any pain. Then I opened my eyes.“Isabelle, are you okay?” Victor asked.I hadn’t known when Victor entered into the apartment or when he even did, and although I was surprised and still confused, I was more than relieved. I looked down and saw the man writhing on the floor, but almost immediately, he struggled to his feet and scampered out of the apartment without anyone of us chasing after him.“Isabelle, breathe…” Victor was saying when I continued to look dazed and confused.I tried to breathe, but I had held my breath for too long that it had become stuck, and so I didn’t even know when I slid into unconsciousness. I felt myself being carried in the air and laid gently, but I just couldn’t open my eyes or protest
