The roommate continued.

Roommate: “I was so angry. I’m a woman too, and putting myself in her shoes… I wouldn’t be happy at all. I might even do something stupid. Since she confided in me and she’s my friend, I decided to help her get justice. So I took matters into my own hands and sent the story to a blogger I knew. She posted it, and I paid her. That’s how you started trending.”

Ann: “Why didn’t you call me to verify? We were roommates for two years. If I hadn’t moved out, we’d still be sharing a room. We never had any major misunderstandings.”

Roommate: “Ann, I’m so sorry. I wasn’t thinking straight. I should have checked with you at least we weren’t fighting.”

Ann: “But you didn’t! Do you have any idea how deep this cut? Do you know the emotional damage you caused? The impact on my relationship? Everywhere I went, people pointed fingers. They mocked me. Girls laughed at me. I felt like a clown. There was even a day I didn’t go to school because I couldn’t face them. And now you have the guts to come here and confess? What am I supposed to do with your confession? Will it erase the trauma of being laughed at? Or mocked?”

Roommate: (Kneeling) “Ann, I’m sorry. I was angry so angry I wasn’t thinking. In fact, when the truth came out, I even paid the blogger to push the correction to trend, because I saw how much the netizens insulted you and your boyfriend. I know that’s not enough to make up for it, but I’m sorry. I just realized my friend was using me. I don’t know her purpose, but she must have an agenda. Even if she’s not your man’s ex, she must be a friend or something. Please be careful. Her name is Nancy. Watch out. She’s the one who sent me pictures of her with your man they were blurry, but you could still recognize them if you knew them. I don’t know how she got them.”

Ann: “You said her name is Nancy?”

Roommate: “Yeah, Nancy. I knew her when she still lived here. She was a good girl, but I guess she’s changed.”

Ann: “Why are you telling me all this?”

Roommate: “Because my conscience won’t let me stay quiet. You were one of the reasons I came back to school early.”

Ann: “I’m sorry… I’m not a saint. I can’t forgive you right away just because you confessed. Please give me time to digest this.”

Roommate: “I understand. Take your time.”

Ann: “Thanks then, Toodles.”

Ann came to meet me when they finished talking, and we went to class.

During lectures, my instructor asked to see me afterward, so I dropped Ann off at her friend’s house. Guess who the friend was?

The hijabi girl.

Yes Ann’s best friend is the hijabi girl!

Whoosh. The girl was beautiful. She still is. Thank God I never got to talk to her all those times I looked for an opportunity. Thank God she doesn’t even know me.

I kissed Ann, told her I’d pick her up later, and left.

When I entered my instructor’s office, he wasn’t there. I called him no answer but he texted saying he was in a meeting and would be out in thirty minutes. So I waited.

While waiting, his assistant asked if I wanted tea or coffee. I said just water was fine, and she left to get it.

I was browsing through tabloids on the table when she returned. Her top had changed into a cleavage-showcasing corset her breasts barely covered.

I have a better outfit."Me: "Wait better outfit? Better than this one?"Mom: "Yeah, it's finer. Classier. I imported it from Paris. I was saving it for the president's wives' meeting, but it came in handy earlier than expected."Me: "Then why are you so overdressed if you're just going to change?"Mom: "Because today is a good day. Plus, I'm going shopping."Me: "Sho... shopping with who?"Mom: "With you, of course. Am I going to see Ann empty-handed? Besides, you call this overdressed? Wait till you see what I'll wear to meet my daughter-in-law." She smiled slyly.Me: "Hey, hey, hey, Mom. Enough. You look like you're going to dine with presidents of 19 different countries."Mom: "Mm-hmm. I know. That was the original purpose of this dress."Me: "Mom, you don't need to be extra. It's just Ann."Mom: "What do you mean, 'just Ann'?

How about one of the chefs moves to my house? Or Uncle Su?"Mom: "You're forgetting I can cook. We'll survive. You'll get used to her easily. I mean, your bestie Hamida is just like her."Ann: She sounded surprised. "Oh, really? I can't wait to meet her, then."Me: "We might come later today. I'll confirm the exact time after I talk to her. She's going to the spa first."Ann: "That's fine. Tell me what she likes so I can cook for her. Mom: "The Shengan family does not need to stoop that low to survive. We've stood independently by the power of God and the business talent of the heirs in this family. Princess, calm down."Mom: She snapped at me. "How can you tell me to calm down when there's an imposter trying to cause internal conflict in a harmonious family?" She eyed me. "Calm down, fire!" Mom: She put her head down apologetically. "Raun, I've wronged you, your dad, and everyone in this household. I just play and don't care about anything else while you all work hard to afford whatever I want. I go shopping, to car launches, jewelry reveals anywhere in the world. I even join the public using regular airplanes without any escort. Sometimes I sit in economy just to blend in." She sniffled. "From today onward, not just the special guards.I'll even take the regular bodyguards when I go out. Enough manpower to protect me. I'll stop going to random places. I promise you, son. I'll try not to make you and your dad worry about work and worry about me at the same time."Me: "That's our big princess." I went to hug her.Mom: "You and your dad spoil me too much." She smiled admist her tears. Me: "But you're just a girlll." I imitated the way she talked and ran away.Mom: She threw a pillow at me. "Are you mocking me?"Me: "No, no, no. Me: "So all this was for an island?"Mom: "What do you mean 'all this'? Like I'm doing something sinful?"Me: "No, I meant the stress of going to buy the flower yourself."Mom: "Well, not really. Your dad works hard, so I should give him good sex once in a while, you know?" She smiled mischievously.Me: "That's thoughtful of you."Mom: "Of course. I'm always a thoughtful person."Me: "So where exactly is this island located?"Mom: "Well, it's a small island surrounded by water. I passed by there last time I went to Dubai to buy some abayas and perfumes. The island isn't far from Abu Dhabi. It's calm. The serenity is beautiful. It's peaceful. There are speedboats you can play with in the water. There are also little buildings,a museum, an aquarium, a beauty spa for me and my little Angel , and a fully equipped gym apart from the mansion. The place is like a small world."Me: "Wow, you've done your research."Mom: "Yeah, I did. They say the owner is about to die and has no offspring or
