CHAPTER 4

The car ride to the house was quiet and the silence was suffocating. There’s just something about Roman that was different from other guys I’ve met. I liked him though I met him yesterday and I was also scared shitless of him. He was cocky, arrogant and hardly let people see the part of him I was seeing. His possessiveness.

“what are you thinking about?” he asked me as we pulled into his driveway. His house was huge, like huge and almost bigger than a normal mansion. It was painted white and gold. It had huge pillars and large marble stairs that led to the front door. “Camila” he almost yelled. I turned to him startled. “you zone out a lot and it’s not safe” he opened his car door and stepped out. He opened my door for me, I looked around for my bag and phone and released that I left it in school.

“oh shit” I cursed almost face palming.

“language” Roman boomed. I almost jumped when I heard his voice. “I’ve already ordered for your books to be brought home alongside other things, so go inside now” I stared at him in disbelief. How did he know what I was thinking and when did order it?

I walked silently into the house. I’d never taken time to observe the interior of the house due to my rushing in the morning. The living room was large with a large television set, 4 sofas, some love seats and bean bags. There was a large winding stairs that led up to the first floor. The house was 4 stories in total.

“go to your room, change and come down for lunch” he ordered. I huffed in annoyance and walked up the stairs. He was rude and commanding. Nobody even bothered to show me around the house and there seemed to be no household staff but the house was heavily guarded. I walked along the long carpeted corridor of the first floor, I came to a door that looked like mine and opened it and sure enough it was mine. I shut the door and went for a shower. I picked a large oversized shirt with jeans and tied my hair into a ponytail. I walked down the stairs to look for the dining room

It was separate from the kitchen and Roman sat at one end of the table sipping slowly on the glass of wine in his hand while scrolling through his phone. He looked up and acknowledged my presence before asking me to take a seat. I took a seat and the non-existent household staff appeared and served lunch.

I ate my food slowly very aware of his gaze on me. There was no conversation on the table and the silence was eating me up so I decided to speak.

“what exactly do you do?” I asked him. He raised an eyebrow in surprise.

“is that a joke?” he asked with an amused look. I gave a confused look and his smile faltered. “you honestly don’t know, everybody in this country should know”. “proud much” I murmured under my breathe.

“I invest in technology, I own restaurants, hotels, clubs” he listed off his fingers.

“anything illegal? You’re not in the mafia. Are you?” his smile dropped and he narrowed his eyes at me.

“and what brought that thought about?” he took a sip from his wine, his stare not leaving my face. I shrunk back, very content not to answer that question. My ears perked up when I heard yelling from outside. Roman stood up and so did I. we walked silently to the place the noise came from.  It was the front door and the guard was arguing with someone.

“I know she’s in there” the person yelled. My eyes went wide at Olivia’s voice. Oh god.

“Olivia” I called out. She stopped yelling for a moment.

“I told you she’s in there, Mila” she pushed the guard away and rushed into the house. She pushed past a confused Roman and pulled me into a tight embrace.

“my baby” she cooed touching and squeezing my face “are you okay? You just disappeared and I was looking all over for you> some people said you got expelled but I wasn’t sure about that cause my best friend is a goody miss too shoes but some said you were finally kidnaped for money but I wasn’t sure either, then this huge guy came looking for your bag and phone and told me you were here, so he chased me all the way won here and the guard at the door wont let me in and the rest of the story you know it...” she finally stopped talking and gasped for breath. She stared between Roman and I who had shock written on our faces.

“this Roman, I suppose” she turned to face him fully and winked at me. “good catch, sister” she whispered.

‘who is this?” Roman asked.

“Olivia, and this is my best friend Camila, and since I have finally found you, I will be taking my leave, bye” with that she shook Roman and the front door guard before heading out of the estate. Olivia was something else sometimes.

“that’s very weird, anyways we are going out with my parents for dinner and a dress has been placed in your room for you, dinner is at 7” he walked off after saying that. I stared at his back as he made his way, deeper and deeper into the house. Roman was one funny dude.
