CHAPTER 06

The girl did not see the House Master come onto the room and was standing behind her. He reached out and smacked her on the back of the head, you best leave Susan alone or Lady Cassie will have you dismissed." He told her. The girl rubbed her head then turned to the house master.

"We will just see about that," she yelled and left the room. The house master helped Susan up then stood with her whole she finished packing her few thing. Then he took her suitcase case for her. Susan walked beside him her head down. He stopped at the table with the older ladies.

"You make it known to everyone they are to leave Susan alone. If Susan asks for something or something to be done you do it. It will be as if Lady Cassie told you herself. " house master told them.

"Yes, house master the older lady who helped Susan amd Cassie earlier said. The younger ones who were working scowled at Susan.

"This is bull shit, master Nathan takes her in off the street, then makes her a hand maiden over the rest of us. Now rumor has it that Lady Cassie made that girl her personal assistant, we have worked here for years, " one of the ladies said. The older lady in charge of the kitchen stood up. The dress maker is coming to make Susan new clothes tomorrow." The other maids’ mouths dropped open. Susan just stood there with her head down.

"You better Be careful Lady Cassie comes from almost royalty. She is going to be making dome changes around here so if you want to keep your jobs. Hands off Susan and do what she requests." She said.

"Lady Cassie is already going to lose her shit when she see the cut on Susan’s leg. Hopefully I can smooth it over. I for one like working for Master Nathon." He said then he turned and told Susan he would walk her upstairs.

Cassie walked down the last few steps ro stand with her father.

"You look beautiful my princess," Victor said to her.

"Thank you Dad," Cassie said giving him a real smile. It was one of the rare occasion that her mother was not around. All the treasures Cassie had were because her father had snuck them up to her when her mother was not home.

The ball room door opened, and the room went silent as Cassie and her father walked in and the doorman announced them.

Lady Cassie Robinson and her father Victor Robinson the third. Nathan stepped down from where he was standing. People made a path for him to Cassie. As Nathan approached Victor held out Cassie hand to Nathan. She was even more beautiful Nathan thought as he looked at her. The long black silk dress fit her perfectly, the bodice had small white lace flowers sewn on it was revealing just enough for any male to the imagination. The three-quarter length sleeves sat just off the shoulders. The skirt fell to the floor over her under skirts with a small train at the back of the dress. She wore no jewellery as her mother had taken it all away as soon as her father had bought her some thing. Nathan was just staring into her golden eyes.  Suddenly he bent his head down and kissed both her hands. Cassie started to blush.

"It is a pleasure to finally meet you'" Nathan said. Laura gave Nathan a nod.

"May I offer you a refreshment?" Nathan asked now walking beside Cassie.

"A refreshment would be wonderful, thank you," Cassie said softly. Nathan leaned down to Cassie from behind and whispered in her ear.

"Do you need a different kind of drink, your looking peckish." Nathan asked her.

"Yes, please" Cassie said quietly.

"Take a glass of champagne and walk with me when we are seated I will have them bring you what you need." Nathan said holding her arm gently as the walked.

"Susan should have got you some she does have a key." Nathan said.

"Yes, but with her doing my hair and us talking time slipped away, please do not punish her. It was not her fault," Cassie begged.

"Lady Cassie you have it all wrong I would never punish Susan. I'm actually very pleased with what you did today." Nathan told her as they say on a beautiful white and gold sofa that was with two others up on a platform in the middle of the room. Cassie assumed it was for them and their parents.

"Oh, you know about that," Cassie said putting her head down.

"Susan is the daughter of one of my dearest friends.  Or should I say were, they were involved in a horrible accident while on vacation. Susan was to old for me to take in as an orphan especially me being single. So I brought her here as one of the house maids.

When this all happened, the arranged marriage, I appointed her your hand maiden hoping you would do exactly what you did." Nathan told her. Cassie did not say anything.

Nathan waved over a server and talked to him quietly. The server nodded and Nathan handed him a key. The man walked out the back doors of the ballroom.

"Now where was I, oh yes. You should have seen the house master’s when I asked him why he was bothering me and to do what Lady Cassie told you to do or he would be finding himself looking for new employment."  Nathan laughed.

"Did he tell you that I said if any of the staff give Susan a hard time they will be looking for a new job?" Cassie asked him.

"No, but good for you, I know they get laxed when I go away for long periods at a time.

"I want to look at all the staff sooner then later." Cassie told him. 

"Any thing you want Cassie. This is your home now you do as you see fit. If you need my help let me know. One moment dearest," Nathan said and walked over to the server and got their goblets and brought them back to the couch. He passed her a goblet then sat down again. Cassie looked around the room a nervously.

"You need not worry beautiful; no one can see what is in the goblets. Only those of our kind know and it does not bother them." Nathan told her.  Cassie drank the contents of the goblet quickly; she did not realize her thirst was so strong. Seeing this Nathan waved over the server and asked him to get Cassie another.

"When was the last time you drank, Cassie?" Nathan asked concerned. She didn't want to tell him the truth right now so he the truth, well not yet anyway.

"I don't remember it has been a couple of busy days traveling and all." Cassie told him.

"Susan has the key make sure she gets you what you need, we have plenty. Now what was I saying, oh yes. Make any changes to the house you see fit except my office and by bed chambers. As for the staff make a list and we will talk about it, I'm sure I will agree with you, that being said anyone hurting Susan should be terminated immediately. " Nathan told her.

"As you wish," Cassie said. Her second goblet arrived and she drank it slower she felt more refreshed and had more energy when she had finished it. They talked about a lot of thing for over an hour. Then Nathan stood and extended his hand to her.
