CASSIE
Marcella walked into their meager little house, closing the door she walked over to her husband Victor and threw papers onto his lap. "You can unlock her from the attic, it is done. She must not have a mark on her when we take her to their home. I will be glad when she s gone. Victor you will be responsible for her care until we leave. She better not test me. Keep her out of my way. Tell her she is going to town with me tomorrow we have to buy her a dress. It will be the last penny I spend on that girl." Marcella said. Then went to her room slamming the door. Victor read the papers and the attached letter, then climbed the two sets of stairs to the attic. Taking out the key, he opened the door and looked at his daughter. Cassie looked up at her father with a questioning look in her eyes. "Pack your thing from this room you are to stay in the guest room. Stay out of your mother’s way. I will being you what you need. Oh, you are going to buy a wedding gown tomorrow. Please do not make a scene in town." Victor told her and walked away. "Father?" Cassie called to him. "What is it Cassie?" Victor asked standing on the stairs. "Why are we going to buy a wedding dress?" Cassie asked afraid to hear the answer. "A contract has been made for you to marry, we leave in a less than week to take you to your husband," Victor said sadness vibrated pulled in every word he spoke. But he knew better then to go against Marcella. He turned and walked down the stairs leaving Cassie to watch him walk away. Cassie went back into the attic room and out an old suitcase and packed everything she had collected over the last thirteen years that was dear to her, then packed the few clothes she owned on top of her treasures. She cautiously made her way to the guest room. Putting her suitcase behind the door she sat on the bed and waited. It was not long before Marcella came into the room with another suitcase. "The clothes in here should fit you. Be ready to go at eight in the morning," Marcella said then left the room. Cassie pulled out one of the publications her father had given her and laid on the bed reading for hundredth time. She had to think positive if she married she would no long have to endure the cruelty of her mother. Cassie sat at the dressing table brushing out her long black wavy hair. She looked at herself in the mirror. Her skin was pale a fine porcelain her eye were a piercing color of ember her features were delicate and refined with her high cheek bones and strong jawline. She stood five foot seven inches tall. She was tall for a woman of her time. She had a perfectly sculpted body that turned many heads when she went to town on the rare occasion with her mother. Marcella was a site of beauty standing only five feet two inches tall. Her skin was the same porcelain color her eyes black as night. Marcella walked into the room and took the brush from Cassie and continued to brush Cassie’s hair. Marcella looked at her daughter in the mirror. "You packed everything?" Marcella asked. "Yes, mother." Cassie said quietly without any emotion. Her mother put down the brush. "Cassie it has all been arranged, there is nothing you can do about it. Your father and I had an arranged marriage, and we love each other very much." Marcella told her. Cassie turned and looked at her. "Who said I ever wanted to be married. You are so desperate to get me out of this house you found someone who would marry me!" Cassie accused her. Marcella went to back hand her but stopped. She must not have any bruises on her it would not look good for her image as a wonderful mother. "He is not just anyone, his family has royal lineage." Marcella said. "He is also six years older than me mother!" Cassie said in a raised voice. "Age has nothing to do with it, Cassie he is one of the most powerful vampires in this country." Marcella told her "Great, When do we leave?" Cassie asked as she got up. "Now your father is waiting in the carriage." Marcella said. Cassie turned to face her. "I'm tell you now mother, if he so much as lays a hand on me I will kill him." Cassie screamed. Marcella grabbed her roughly by the arm and squeezed it hard. "You will do your wifely duties child do you understand me? Or you will find out just how cruel I can be. This marriage is important to both our families. You better not screw this up. I worked to hard to get this contract." Marcella hissed. Cassie pulled away from her mother, grabbed her shawl and ran down the stair, out to the carriage. The driver helped her up and she sat beside her father. "Cassie, how many time have I told you not to anger your mother?" Victor asked not expecting an answer. He looked at her arm; the bruises were already forming from her mother’s hand. Marcella stormed out after her and got in the carriage eyes locked on Cassie. Victor banged the roof of the carriage with his cane. The carriage started toward the main road. "How long will it take us to get there?" Cassie asked her father. "About fourteen hours. So, deal with it," Marcella told her. Cassie looked out the window, the sun had just gone down hopefully she would fall asleep. Not that she needed a lot of sleep. But it would keep her mother from nagging her all the way there. Victor turned to her. "Nathan is excited to meet you again. The only memories he has of you was when you were five years old." Her father told her. "I don't even remember him!" Cassie said then turned to look out into the darkness. Her mother tried to talk to her, but Cassie ignored her. "There is going to be a huge engagement party, with a ball to celebrate. There will be a lot of humans there that Nathon is friends with. I suggest you be on your best behavior or else." Her mother threatened her. Cassie ignored her and looked at her father. "Tell me father how did Nathan take the news that he was contacted to marry me?" She asked then turned back to the window."He has accepted that this is what he must do to keep the linage of his family pure." Her mother answered. Her father said nothing.
Cassie wanted to laugh. Pure my ass she thought, Nathan had to realize she was not a pure blood."What is that?" Nathan asked confused."Her mother sent it this morning saying it was her wedding dress." Susan told him as she gently wiped the blood from Cassie's face."I went and had words with her, when I was coming to talk to you, Susan was screaming for help." Laura said.Nathan knelt down in front of Cassie. Cassie turned her head so he could not see her face."Cassie can I sit beside you?" Nathan asked. Cassie nodded. Susan got up and let Nathan sit where she had been sitting handing him the cloth."May I give you a hug?" He asked her. She nodded. As he wrapped his arms around her she clung to him and cried on his shoulder."I want them gone mother right now. Throw them out of my house." Nathan said. Cassie let go of Nathan and tried to stand up. He pulled her back to him. Not you beautiful, No one does this to my wife." Nathan said. He look at his mother and she nodded. Nathan got down on one knee in front of her."I was going to do this after coffee tonight, but I think I
Nathan sat in his office with a large goblet of drink from the supply room. He quickly wrote down the thing Cassie would need to go with him. He would have the tailor come and make her clothes. There would be no dress or petty coats. She would have to get use to breeches, linin shirts, and trousers. He would have to make sure she had boots and an overcoat. He sighed smiling. Tonight, had turned out better then he had ever thought it would. He was totally smitten with Cassie. His mother had come to see him before she retired for the evening. She gave him his grandmother diamond ring to give Cassie tomorrow night after coffee. He came to the realization that if he took Cassie he would have to take Susan as well he could not leave her here to be tormented by the other staff. He wrote a list of things for her as well.Norman and Jacob were in Nathan's office early having coffee with Nathon."We see it went well with your bride to be last night. Where did the two of you sneak off to last n
"May I have this dance Lady Cassie," he asked. Cassie swollen the lump in her throat and nodded. People moved out of the way as they went to the center of the room. The orchestra seeing Nathan was dancing with his soon to be bride changed the music to a beautiful soft melody. Nathan pulled Cassie into his arm holding her tightly to him. Cassie felt uncomfortable with how tight he was holding her. She did not want to make a scene, but she could hardly breath.Laura and Jake watch from the side. Laura had worried about whether she had made the right choice for Nathon but seeing them together she realized she had made the right choice Nathan seemed smitten with her. Cassie's parents watched from another table Marcella watched Cassie carefully making sure she did not embarrass them in anyway.Laura and Jake walked over and to Marcella and Victor. Jack pulled out a secondary contract he and Laura signed it then Marcella and Victor signed it."You will have your copy in the morning," Jake t
The girl did not see the House Master come onto the room and was standing behind her. He reached out and smacked her on the back of the head, you best leave Susan alone or Lady Cassie will have you dismissed." He told her. The girl rubbed her head then turned to the house master."We will just see about that," she yelled and left the room. The house master helped Susan up then stood with her whole she finished packing her few thing. Then he took her suitcase case for her. Susan walked beside him her head down. He stopped at the table with the older ladies."You make it known to everyone they are to leave Susan alone. If Susan asks for something or something to be done you do it. It will be as if Lady Cassie told you herself. " house master told them."Yes, house master the older lady who helped Susan amd Cassie earlier said. The younger ones who were working scowled at Susan."This is bull shit, master Nathan takes her in off the street, then makes her a hand maiden over the rest of u
"I have plenty of time, " Cassie said"I see you choose the black dress, it will show off a lot of your assets without being slutty. And who are you? Marcella asked Susan."She is my lady," Cassir answered before Susan could. She will help me dress and take care of doing my hair or anything else I need done, I will see you downstairs in the ball room at eight thirty." Cassie said dismissing her mother."Who told you eight thirty?" Marcella asked her."That was what I was instructed by the butler, " Cassie said."Do something nice with that hair!" Marcella said and left. Both Susan and Cassie laughed."Ok, you win Susan you can do my hair the way you want," Cassie told her. Susan smiled.Laura, Nathan's mother walked into his office to find him still looking at maps."Nathan!!" She yelled."Hello mother, you look beautiful"Nathon said looking up from the map and went over and kissed her cheek. Laura was wearing a long black silk dress that had tiny diamonds on the bodice and on the sh
Nathan's parents arrived, but Nathan was not downstairs to greet them. His mother was furious. Lady Laura told the butler to put their bags in their usual chambers."I'm sorry Lady Hawksworth that chamber is no longer available." The butler told her."What do you mean no longer available?" She asked him confused."Master Nathan had the chamber transformed into a bed chamber for Lady Cassie." He told her."Really! Are they here?" She said surprised but happy."Yes, mt lady, her parents are in the west wing and lady Cassie is on her chambers with her lady in waiting having tea. He said."Very interesting, and where might my son be?" She asked."He is in his office, he has been all day," the butler told her."Did he great her parents and her when they arrived?" Laura asked."No, my lady," he said."Find us a decent chamber close to my son and make sure it is clean and dusted. I’m going to see my son." Laura said"Laura, cool your temper!" Jake said to his wife. Laura ignored him. She lif
