Honestly, if I spent another month living in my parents’ house without earning my own money, I might lose my mind. Or end up in the hospital… again.
I needed this job more than anyone could imagine. Let’s just say my parents had made my life a living hell. Being born into a family with both parents alive didn’t always mean you were lucky. My father believed that because I was his daughter, he had the right to do whatever he wanted to me. My mother wasn’t any better. In fact, she was the reason my father started hitting me. Whenever he beat me, she either watched in silence or joined him in reminding me how useless I was. Sometimes, all it took was a bad day. Other times, it was my weight. Why, you might ask? How could one’s biological parents hate their own daughter because of her body? I wondered that too. I have yet to receive an answer. My mother had once told me that I should be grateful that I had parents who allowed me to live under their roof. Grateful? For being insulted every day? For being slapped until my ears rang? For having to smile at family gatherings while hiding bruises beneath my clothes? Sometimes, I wondered whether they remembered I was their daughter. But the worst part was that I had nowhere else to go. I had no job, no money of my own, and no friends willing to take me in indefinitely. So, I stayed and endured. And every night, I promised myself that one day, I would leave. I just had to get a job first. Today was supposed to be that day. If I got this job, I planned to save from my income so that before the year ended, I would move out of that house. I would get a place where I could sleep without worrying about someone storming in to hit me. A place where I could eat without being insulted. A place where I could finally breathe. I sighed and straightened my shoulders. No crying, Bianca. You can cry when you’re free. For now, you need a job. With renewed determination, I walked farther into the lobby. And then I saw the queue. My jaw nearly dropped. Hundreds of applicants stood in line, dressed in expensive-looking outfits. Everyone looked confident and sure of themselves. I glanced down at my own outfit. It was neat and decent, but I couldn’t help feeling out of place. And, of course, I was the only plus-size woman in line. You see, in our world, people weren't classified by gender alone. Everyone was born with a secondary gender: Dominant Alpha, Alpha, Beta, or Omega. No, we are not werewolves or wolf-shifters. Dominant Alphas were people born with special genes and were rare to exist. They commanded other Alphas and were so powerful that weaker individuals struggled to remain standing in their presence. Mere Alphas were also known for their strength and power, but not like the Dominant ones. Betas were the most common and generally lived ordinary lives, while Omegas were known for their ability to attract Alphas and reproduce with them. Pheromones—the natural scents our bodies released—played an important role in this world. They could reveal our presence, attract certain people, or even affect those around us. But being an Omega wasn't always a blessing. Society had its own cruel standards of beauty, and plus-size Omegas like me rarely made the list of desirable women. Slim waists, slim bodies, and pretty faces were praised everywhere. The slimmer an Omega is, the more attention she receives. And me? Well, let's just say I was unfortunate to be born. Being bullied as a child was normal because how dare you be different? Even my parents used my weight as an excuse to humiliate me. Apparently, being their daughter wasn't enough to earn their love. I pushed those thoughts aside as a few applicants glanced at me. I was used to people staring. I just wished I could get through one day without feeling like there was something wrong with me. Just then, someone called my name. "Bianca?"I'd never found myself in a situation like this before. My heart pounded so violently I thought it might burst out of my chest. I immediately threw both hands into the air, tears streaming down my cheeks. "Don't shoot! Please, don't shoot!" "Wait… is that—" One of the guards seemed to recognize me. "Lower your weapons! She's the boss's new assistant!" I stood there, trembling, wondering if that was supposed to make me feel better. If anything, it made me feel worse. What was I supposed to do now? "Lower your weapons," the guard repeated. The men slowly lowered their guns, though none of them looked particularly convinced I wasn't a threat. The first guard stepped forward, eyeing me from head to toe. "Miss, are you all right?" I nodded quickly. "Y-yes." "Then why were you running?" I opened my mouth, then closed it. What exactly was I supposed to tell him? That I'd spent hours trapped in a safe room with their boss, accidentally knocked him unconscious, and then escaped t
"WAKE UP!"I flinched and blinked my eyes open, momentarily disoriented."Are you going to leave, or do you want him to wake up first and murder you?"Sia's voice snapped me out of my confusion. What?I glanced at the man still sleeping beside me, then at the wall that had mysteriously opened.Wait... It was unlocked?!"Leave. Now!""Yes... Yes, thank you so much!"I scrambled to my feet, only to feel a sharp wave of pain shoot through my body. I'd been sitting on that hard floor for hours, and every part of me seemed to protest the sudden movement. But I didn't have time to stand around nursing my aching body.I hurried out of the safe room and into the main room. It was pitch-black, so I blindly reached for a light switch and flicked it on.I wasn't prepared for what happened next. The entire room erupted into an earth-shaking rumble.I gasped, clamping both hands over my mouth to suppress the scream threatening to escape. My legs gave way, and I tumbled backward until I landed awkw
I had been so happy at the thought of finally getting a job and escaping to my own place. A fresh start. A chance to build a life away from all this misery.I shouldn't have accepted this job in the first place. I should have insisted on a cleaning position. Anything would have been better than going to jail. Not that my parents would give a damn if I ended up behind bars. If anything, they would probably consider it a prayer answered. What had I done to deserve all this?I glanced at him again, another wave of guilt washing over me."Sia, is there... is there maybe a blanket or something? He shouldn't be sleeping on the floor like this.""Oh, really? Of course he shouldn't be sleeping on the floor. Whose fault is that?""I know... I know I'm at fault. Just help me out, please." I pleaded."I have no hands to fetch you a blanket, or have you conveniently forgotten that?"I pressed a hand on my heavy hurting chest."What's... what's going to happen to me?""Oh, I can give you a whole l
He didn't say a word. He tried to straighten, but his body betrayed him, a shudder running through his body before he slumped again. "Sir, I don't think you're okay." "You...I am...not..." His words came out broken. My heart lurched like a frantic drum against my ribs and panic seized me, immediately. Oh no! Tears blurred my vision, rolling hot and fast down my face as I spun towards the glowing interface. "Hey! Sia!" Silence. "Stop playing around and open the door! He's going to pass out! He's going to pass out, please!" "First, you are no one to give a command. Secondly, I wasn't built to be empathetic. Lastly, who cares?" "What the hell are you saying? He needs help!" His body staggered backwards like a puppet with its strings cut. Then he collapsed. The sound of his body hitting the floor echoed in the safe room. "OOOOOH MY GOSH! HE PASSED OUT!" I screamed, the sound tearing from my throat. "OH MY GOSH! YOU KILLED HIM!" Sia shouted back, her synthes
I let out a nervous laugh. "That's a lie! What kind of robot are you, anyway? You know absolutely nothing about me! In fact, I have a boyfriend, and yes, he's abusive!" Yeah, I had to keep my family's image on the good side. It's better to have an abusive boyfriend than an abusive parent, right? I lifted my chin, a surge of defiant pride straightening my spine. "In fact, I come from a long, long, long generation of super-happy and healthy families! My parents aren't abusive. They're the best parents ever! So, yes, I have an abusive boyfriend!" An awkward silence stretched for the next few seconds. "Poor thing," Sia responded, her voice dripping with condescension. "How can you be so proud of having an abusive boyfriend? And if your parents are so wonderful, why would you stay with a man who treats you badly?" My mouth fell open. I am going to lose my mind in this place. "Well... I... I..." "ENOUGH!" The man's voice thundered through the room. I immediately shut my mouth an
"Shut the fuck up, Sia!"He snapped angrily and pinched the bridge of his nose with a heavy sigh. "Fuck I am so pissed right now."Meanwhile, I stood there helpless, afraid to even breathe loudly. He resumed attacking the wall. The sound of his fists landing against the iron surface was terrifying.I watched in disbelief as the supposedly impenetrable iron wall developed a deep dent. The metal curved inward beneath the force of his blows. It wasn't surprising that he possessed such incredible strength. He was a rare Alpha, after all.Tall, with a strong, powerful build—but what impressed me even more was the material of the safe room's door.Despite his repeated attempts to break through, the door remained firmly shut. Not even the slightest vibration suggested that the security mechanism was weakening.Whoever designed this safe room deserved a raise, because if this man couldn't break through it, then nobody could.I quietly moved farther away, folding my arms across my chest as I w
