I left the gym and headed toward the street. I was crying and anxious; it felt like a panic attack.

Some people approached me, trying to help. I couldn't see anyone.

"Go away, leave me alone."

I sat under the awning of a sidewalk, waiting for George to come talk to me. He didn't appear. From where I was, I could see the gym's door.

My husband didn't run after me. That made me realize that he might not love me as much as I thought.

I understood that this could be the last chance George was giving me. But what if I wanted to stay fat?

I was willing to do that for him. But I needed to see the gym as something beneficial to me, not as a favor to my husband, who hadn't even left the gym to come looking for me.

My crying grew even stronger. I decided not to wait for George and called a rideshare.

I sat there on the sidewalk waiting. George didn't appear. In less than five minutes, the car arrived.

The driver rolled down the window as soon as he approached me. He looked at my body and refused the ride.

"Sorry, ma'am, but my car isn't in good condition. The shock absorbers are failing. If you get in, you and I could end up stuck somewhere. Could you please call another car?"

I looked deep into that driver's eyes. He was polite, but he hid his prejudice beneath sweet words. With tears in my eyes, I wiped the ones still running down my face and answered him.

"No need, sir. I'll call another car, one that's more spacious, clean, and new. Surely you have something better than this old junk. You can leave now!"

I started crying again, and that driver drove away. George appeared at the gym's gate after almost ten minutes. I crouched down so he wouldn't see me sitting there on the sidewalk.

I called another car through the app. This time, I selected a more spacious model and a driver who looked like a generous man.

He was nearby and arrived quickly, in less than three minutes. The driver followed the same route as the previous one, rolled down the window, and spoke to me.

But this time, the service was compassionate. He looked at my condition and asked if I needed help getting up.

"Hello, Candy. Were you the one who called a car? Do you need help getting up from there?"

The driver was completely kind, but I refused his help.

"No need, thank you. I can do it."

I began getting up from the ground with great difficulty. My hands sank into the dirt of the sidewalk, getting everything dirty. I managed to stand up and wiped my hands on the leaves of a tree nearby.

The driver smiled and joked with me.

"A little longer and you'd have started making clay pots."

I started laughing at that joke. It wasn't directly aimed at my obesity; he was trying to make me feel more comfortable.

"Now I'm making juice. Want some? This one kills in 24 hours."

"What is that, my friend? I still have three children to raise. Come on, get in the car."

I finished cleaning my hands, opened the door, and got into the car. At that moment, George spotted me.

He came running toward the car, but I pretended I hadn't seen him.

"Candy, wait. Candy!"

"Miss, that man was shouting your name. Shouldn't we stop?"

"Ah, everyone screams my name. He's just another fan. Keep driving, please."

"Are you famous? Are you a digital influencer?"

"No, I'm not. I'm just joking. But I make cakes, and they're delicious. When I get home, I'll give you one as a gift."

I started laughing again after that driver thought I was someone famous. George was left behind, and with him all the humiliation I had gone through at the gym.

The trip between the gym and my house was quick. The driver was kind throughout the entire ride. As soon as I got home, I ran to the refrigerator.

I ate two slices of chocolate cake, plus three with passion-fruit ganache. I drank soda. My diet was murdered.

That's how I felt whenever someone talked about my weight. After eating, I turned on my online store and started receiving orders.

George sent me a message on my phone.

"My love, I'm sorry. I was nervous today."

I read it, but I didn't reply. I had to focus on the orders. More than 20 people were waiting for me.

Not all the cakes were ready, so I literally had to get my hands into the dough.

I started with the light-colored batters, then made carrot, orange, and lemon flavors. The last batter I prepared was chocolate.

After spending two hours on the preparation, I still had the fillings and toppings to make. I put on some music and continued my battle in the kitchen.

I was still feeling bad about everything that had happened at the gym. But I decided that, that day, I wouldn't blame myself for anything anymore.

For one day, my weight wouldn't be a problem. Nothing I started would be a problem either. Later, I would think about what I was going to do with my life.

But I was so busy making the batters that I ended up putting an extra egg in the carrot cake.

It was fine. It was only one extra egg, and it wouldn't affect the taste of the batter at all.

After finishing the chocolate cakes, I opened the cans of condensed milk and started preparing the fillings.

The dulce de leche had to be ready, along with the pineapple in syrup, chocolate ganache, and strawberry jam.

It was a lot, and the orders kept coming into Candy Cake. That comforted me.

Some orders were from friends, acquaintances, and even people from George's clan.

The wolves in my region were very united. Buying from a business run by a wolf was a way of helping the entire clan.

Whenever someone became unemployed, all they had to do was send a message to the wolf group, and they would quickly find something. Ever since I was little, I had known that this was how things worked.

One of the wolves ordered three carrot cakes. He must have been hungry. I started making the chocolate ganache so I could send his order first, since the cake was already ready.

After eating so much, I didn't taste any of the cakes. I rushed to finish the ganache and poured it while it was still hot over the carrot cake. I called a motorcycle courier and sent it to the customer.

Right afterward, I started making the strawberry jam and the pineapple in syrup. It was the easiest part to make, and I was already feeling tired.

Once again, my weight was keeping me from having more energy in the kitchen. I felt sad remembering that.

The phone rang. I thought it was another order coming in. I was going crazy with so much still left to deliver.

When I checked the message, I was stunned. It was the customer who had ordered the carrot cake with chocolate ganache.

"What the hell is this that you call a cake?"

I smelled a strong scent of gasoline. I thought it was a dream.I tried to open my eyes, but I couldn't. Everything hurt. My body was sprawled inside the car.Someone approached. I wasn't fully conscious of my body, but I could hear what was happening around me."My God, we have to help this woman. She's injured. Call an ambulance."Another man replied:"Look at the gasoline. We need to get her out of there now. The car could explode.""Wow, how are we going to get a woman this size out?"Even at a moment like this, I was being judged because of my body. I tried to cry, but I blacked out.I woke up a little while later, lying on the side of the road. I tried to get up."Stay there, ma'am. An ambulance will be here shortly. Are you okay?"I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I still wanted to believe that all of this was a nightmare. But I felt pain throughout my body. Pain strong enough to wake me from any state of illusion."My God. It hurts so much. Help me."I lay back down on th

"I'm going after him, Lucy. I'm sure he took that slut with him on this trip. Now tell me, how can I stay with a man like that?""I'm sorry, Candy. George really failed you. You don't need to think about it anymore. I support your decision about the separation. You don't deserve this. You're beautiful, a businesswoman...""And fat. Very fat.""Don't talk about yourself like that, sweetheart. You need to change your self-esteem.""How can I change it when all I see in the mirror is a whale?""You've already taken the first step. Diet. The second step too. The gym. Focus on your potential.""I can't. At least not right now. I need to put an end to this story, Lucy."I was furious. I grabbed that piece of clothing and set it on fire."You need to rest, Candy.""No, I'm hitting the road right now.""Are you crazy? You're going tomorrow. Not today, please. Talk to him first.""How am I supposed to talk to him? I just destroyed the evidence I had.""See? Doing things when you're angry isn't

It was George's handwriting on that piece of paper. Lucy looked at me and thought my marriage had come to an end. But it was worse than that.I started crying, thinking about what could have happened to my mother-in-law.In the note, George said that his mother had been hospitalized and that he had to travel to stay with her.I was petrified. It could be serious. I was terrified. The note said that he had tried to call me. I picked up my phone and saw more than 20 missed calls. I called him, but there was no signal."Look at this, Lucy. My God. My mother-in-law has been hospitalized. He left a note."She took the paper from my hand and started reading it silently. When she reached the end of the note, Lucy looked at me, unable to believe what was happening."How could this have happened so quickly?""She was already sick.""Ah, then that makes sense.""That's why I'm worried, Lucy. His mother has colon cancer. She's already had surgery twice.""My God, Candy. George must be devastated

"Shut up, George. Enough.""What happened? Feeling brave, hippo?"He kept humiliating me. I gathered strength I didn't even know where I found."Be quiet, idiot. I may be fat, and I'm here to get rid of this extra weight. But there are things that can never change: fidelity.""What are you trying to say, Candy?""Shut your mouth. It's my turn to talk. I know you're cheating on me.""That was the last thing I needed. Making up that I'm cheating on you because you can't lose weight? Don't put your mistake on me.""George, you're a bastard. You're cheating on me with Chloe."Everyone at the gym was in shock. Nobody was working out anymore; everyone's attention was focused on our fight. Lucy tried to interrupt us, but it was already too late."Are you crazy, Candy? I barely have time to breathe. You think I'm going to cheat on you? And the worst part, with a student from our gym? It looks like the sugar has gone to your head!"George answered my accusation coldly. He wanted to make me loo

"How can you say that, Candy? The day has barely started, and you already want to pick a fight?""Me? You could be hiding something. I don't know. I smell something burning, and it's not those ugly pancakes you made.""Are you crazy? I didn't do anything wrong. I decided to make breakfast as a way of apologizing for what happened at the gym yesterday.""But what did you do at the gym that afternoon?""I did what I do every day. I checked on my students, registered new members, and left everything clean to start a new day today.""You're pathetic, George. You think you can hide this from me.""Hide what, Candy? I don't understand you."For a moment, my anger faded. It wasn't the right time to reveal what I knew about Chloe. I needed more information. I returned to my normal mood and continued breakfast as if nothing had happened."I'm sorry, my love. I just woke up in a bad mood today.""It's okay. I also want to apologize for what happened at the gym yesterday. I'm just worried about

The smell of the fish turned sour after I saw that message through the notification. From the photo, I could tell it was that girl from the gym. I remembered her name: Chloe.I thought about making a scene. He had been in the bathroom for more than just washing his hands. That amount of time was enough to cool down all the anger that had been boiling inside me.I remembered that revenge was a dish best served cold. My fish was hot; it had just come out of the oven, but to me, I had already lost my appetite for the entire meal.George took about two minutes to return to the table, but that time felt like an eternity. He settled into his chair and picked up a plate."The smell is wonderful, sweetheart. You really outdid yourself today."But deep in his eyes, without showing any kind of reaction, I wanted to grab that knife and stab the man who was cheating on me. But the knife was a kitchen knife, and it didn't even have a sharp point. My anger wasn't that great either. I was already fe
