Chapter 49: We are here

"You're slowing down." He stated simply. The carriage rocked back and forth and I looked up at Wruy, completely out of breath. Wruy just looked like he had woken up from his sleep and stared down at me judgingly. "I'm tired." I said, swallowing to try to wet my parched throat. "I don't care. The dark ones won't care. Fight through it." Wruy replied.

Leaning back against the cool wall, my breathing was erratic and my clothes were drenched with sweat. "How?" I asked, wiping my forehead tiredly. Exhaustion made my brain foggy. These demons didn't need sleep, but I was used to a solid ten hours a night, and I hadn't gotten even six a night ever since I got here.

"Find something that wakes you up. At least long enough for you to kill your opponent, or flee." Wruy advised.

"Okay. Got it. Give me my knife first." I nodded with blinking eyes. "No." He responded, sliding the knife away from me with his dirty, muddy boot. "Learn to fight with other weapons. Find your own." Wruy ordered. "But
