The minutes ticked by, our ship beginning to inch ahead after some more rerouting of power from me, and some very impressive flying from Icaan. I'd opted to help him in the end, and see if I could win myself any more favor, but the truth was, if he hadn't been towing my ship we'd have been long gone.
"Let me power up the engine on my ship and at least vaguely steer it in the right direction."
"You can't. I stripped too many parts out. And before you suggest that you could at least lower the resistance it causes I've already set it not to be a burden as much as possible. The extra movement and tweaks you'd be able to make wouldn't do enough for me to trust you over their alone."
"It's not like I can steal it," I replied. "It's not working properly."

I gulped as Kaemir came closer, still staring at me. The corridor outside was empty of life, but Icaan was still careful. Somewhere the commander must have been trying to do something. Putting the ship on autopilot, Icaan got up and came to me. My ship looked strange now I'd been off it for several days. It had been my home for so long, but it was clear that it had seen better days. Now I'd been away from it for a while, I noticed the wear and tear. Panels were scratched and warped where I'd had to remove them so many times. The floor was scuffed and dirty, feet having walked over it for years, dragging in all sorts from markets and planets the galaxy over.I slowly walked through the hallway to the main cockpit, trying to ignore the panels that Icaan had removed so he could get at the components underneath.
