Em

The rest of the shopping trip was a little bit of a let down compared to the first half. But once they got back to Asher’s and put the groceries away, Em forgot all about her drama.

Aspen came bouncing down the stairs grinning but stopped dead when she saw Em and Asher. Someone then plowed into her back. That someone happened to be Grey.

Grey was in their group of friends. One of both Asher and Quinn’s best friends. Em had been noticing he always seemed to stare at Aspen …. and she knew they’d been texting recently but this… this was new.

“Ummmm” Aspen was speechless… very out of the norm for her.

“Well hello there.” Em said smiling mischievously.

Asher noticed Grey then and gave him a weird look.

“Sup man. Did I forget you were coming over?” Asher said.

Em snorted.

“Ermmmmmm…..” Aspen still couldn’t find the words.

Surely Asher noticed they both had on limited clothing and it was freezing outside and they both looked like they’d just been in a tussle with each other. Then again, this is Asher we’re talking about.

Em leaned over conspicuously to Asher and whispered “don’t think he’s here for you dude.”

Aspen stared at them both wide eyed while Grey, a man of very very few words still hadn’t spoken.

“Sooo did y’all get the groceries?” Aspen finally snapped into action. And it was all forgotten.

“Yeah and you’ll never guess who we ran into.” Asher told her.

“Who? Finley??” his twin said.

Asher looked at her weirdly and frowned.

“Yes! How did you know??”

“Oh ma geez Asher.” Em said giggling at him.

Then she told them all about seeing Fin AND the fact that Quinn was going to eat thanksgiving dinner with her.

“What in the actual fuck?” Aspen said.

“Thank you!” Em exclaimed. “Some of us here already knew that tid bit of info and didn’t even pass it along..”

“She’s talking about me.” Asher piped up.

“Nooooooo.” Aspen said mockingly.

Em still didn’t know how she felt about all this. Her feelings about everything were so screwed up at the moment.. she didn’t know which way was up.

A little while later the four of them were hanging out in the basement and she couldn’t take it any more. Asher and Aspen’s basement had different rooms similar to the one at her house .. only theirs was like an entire separate apartment. They had a living room with a sectional and a huge tv. Asher had a Xbox hooked up to it for games. They had a pool table and even some arcade games set up. There was also a small kitchen. Emerson loved it down there..she’d literally live there if the twins said she could. Minus her brother, there was no one she cared to be around at her own house anymore.

“Asher?” She said.

They’d been taking turns playing pool and she and Asher had just sat down. They were far enough away where the others couldn’t hear the conversation. And Em didn’t know why she was happy about that fact. Hell she didn’t know much of anything at the moment.

“Yup” he answered.

“When you… “. She stopped, not knowing how to ask the question.

She brought the blanket that was on the couch up around her arms. She had gotten hot earlier and borrowed one of Aspen’s short sleeved cropped T-shirts. Her coat was upstairs and she was getting cold.

“You’re freezing.” He noticed. He then took off his cardigan…. the one Em always wanted to steal because she loved it so much….. and threw it around her back.

Then, as if she was a helpless child… he put her arms through the sleeves one at a time, dressing her.

She became immediately enveloped in Asher’s yummy cologne. The sweater was the softest most comfortable thing she had ever put on in her life. She closed her eyes feeling calm and cozy and warm.

Peaceful.

A moment later she opened her eyes and saw Asher smirking at her. Ah damn gopher holes… he saw every bit of that.

“You were saying…?” He asked, still smirking.

“This is my favorite piece of clothing that you own …” she told him, forgoing what she had planned to say. “You’ll be lucky if you ever see this again.”

“If I see it on you it’ll be worth it.” He told her.

What?

What’s happening?

Em felt her stomach flip at his words. The way he said them made her feel funny. It wasn’t usual Asher flirting…. no she was used to that… this was something different.

The way he suddenly became all serious and his voice dropped about three octaves. His eyes had darkened again.

Oh no…I am in so much trouble, Em thought.

Trying to break whatever this was she decided to go back to her original question.

“When you came over the other night to hang out…and today… when you took me to get the groceries. Was that….”

Ugh why did she feel so awkward this was Asher for Christ sake.

“Was that because you generally wanted to hang out with me or is it just because you feel bad for me orrrr is it because you knew Quinn was going to Finley’s house for dinner?”

Phew. She blew out a quick breath once she finally got the words out.

She peeked up at him, waiting for his answer. And oddly enough not knowing what she wanted his answer to be.

But he was just staring at her.

“Babygirl. What kind of fucked up shit goes on in that mind of yours??”

Em almost snorted at that because.. well Asher’s mind is probably the weirdest thing she’d ever come across in her life.

Then something happened …. that shocked her.

He leaned in closely and whispered in her ear….

“From the second you got here, you have been my favorite person in the world. Of course I want to spend time with you.”

Em smiled… but then he got even closer and said: “maybe I used your situation as an excuse to hang out with you even more.”

He leaned back then and smirked at her.

Quinn He was in his outbuilding.. and he’d just finished with his last student of the day, a seven year old boy named Christian. His mother always dropped him off and picked him up. Quinn had wondered about the kid’s dad. Most of the students he had were around that age. Not that he had a ton of them. He’d only just started teaching MMA a few weeks ago and pretty much everyone he taught had signed up through his dad. His dad… although he was still pissed at him about all of this … had really stuck his neck out for Quinn. He’d bought the building and all the equipment and then brought him business. Quinn knew it was mostly because John wanted him to stop doing the underground illegal fights. But this certainly didn’t take the place of it … although it did help some. However Quinn couldn’t very well go around beating the shit out of his students. His dad was a very prominent lawyer. He knew a whole lot of people so he started spreading the word about Quinn teaching. And within ab

EmEmerson had gone back to the twins house after her encounter with Quinn. She wanted nothing more than to crawl into bed and stay there forever. But when she went downstairs to the basement to do just that… she found Aspen and Asher waiting on her. “Hey … guys …” she said deflated. “Em. Are you alright? Did something else happen?” Aspen asked her. Emerson sighed .. the longest and most pitiful thing she’d ever heard. “Yes. But I really don’t want to talk about it.” She told them. Asher nodded… a pained expression on his face. She felt bad that she’d advertently come between him and Quinn. They’d been best friends before all this. “We’ve noticed you’ve been down for the past few days. And we’re here to help.” Asher said grinning at her. “And don’t try to talk us out of it. You know that will only make us more determined.”Despite everything Em smiled at that. “Come on. We’re going to wrap presents!” Aspen said excitedly. Em agrees and decided to change clothes first. It was

Emerson The next couple of days she stayed busy. She had school and then work. She went to the twins house then home to tuck Sawyer in. As much as she didn’t want to see Quinn at all… she wondered where he was. He hadn’t been at school one day. She knew that for a fact because she heard Elias talking about it in one of her classes. She assumed he was back the next day but she didn’t see him. She also hadn’t seen him at home any. She was getting ready for her weekly meeting with Mara. She’d been thinking about calling Evan. She could definitely use some of that calming effect he possessed. But she was kind of afraid to since he now knew she didn’t take his advice. She was actually surprised he hadn’t called her. Before Emerson moved.. and she was going to therapy with Evan at his office, he would still call and check up on her through the week. Of course those were during his office hours and he called from his office phone … not like now when she talked to him late at night

  • Catching the Moon (Chasing the Moon Book 2)   Chapter 34

Emerson The morning after .. the phone call.. she felt worse than she had the morning after drinking all the bourbon. She wondered if Asher would bring her tomato juice and make that same breakfast again for her if she begged him to. Last night after Quinn called her and basically ripped her a new one .. she had cried. She cried for an entire hour. She cried about River and her dad and Huxley and Quinn. Then she cried about her mother and mostly about Sawyer. Had she really abandoned him? Was she being selfish by leaving? She didn’t think so. It was Quinn’s fucking fault in the first place. He’s the one that broke her heart into. He’s the one that won’t abide by any rules like bringing girls to her own house. Why didn’t she stick up for herself on the phone with him?She had been so taken aback by the things he was yelling and accusing her of that she couldn’t even think straight. He had made her feel completely and utterly awful about Sawyer. She loved her brother. But she didn’t

Quinn He hadn’t seen Emerson since she caught him sneaking Zoe out of her house. And fuck he didn’t plan that shit. Quinn knew she told her mom and his dad … ‘their’ fucking parents now … that she didn’t want him having girls over. He understood it. Hell if she brought a guy over he’d be dead before anyone could blink. And it is her house after all. He wasn’t doing it to be an asshole… He just needed an outlet. And Zoe didn’t want to go back to her parents house where she was staying. The girl is 26 years old but she doesn’t live there. She lives a couple of hours away and was in town visiting. So he didn’t have much of a choice. But it wasn’t meant for her to see. Quinn guessed he paid for that shit dearly. When he got home today her mother said she’d left and was staying with the twins. He knew it was just next door but he also fucking hated that she wasn’t there . And he knows that was spurned by his having another girl over. He couldn’t blame her.. but it also meant she i

Em“I’m staying at the twins for a few days.” She told her mother. Carol sighed and started shaking her head. “I don’t want you staying over there Em. We have some things to discuss as a family..” she said. “Well I don’t have anything I want to discuss. And I don’t want to stay here around Quinn. Didn’t we decide he wasn’t to have girls over? And he had a different one over here last night. I don’t want to see that mother. And I’m not going to punish myself by being around it. Now I’m not leaving forever but I need some space from him and from you. I’m just going next fucking door.” Emerson said. She felt bad immediately because her mother looked like she was ready to cry. But she had to be firm. “I wasn’t aware he had another girl over … I’ll speak to John ..” her mom said. Em scoffed. “What’s that going to do? He isn’t going to listen to his dad he’s lost all respect for him. and that happens to be y’all’s fault not Quinn’s.” Em said as she headed towards the door. “Emerso
