Fucking hell. This is not how he wanted this night to go. This night, week, month.. it has all been a cluster fuck of shit. He was trying his damndest to keep himself in check. He didn’t want to go back to the way things were before. He was doing so much better now, all because of Em. He was so pissed off though. At his dad, at her mom.. at the world. The very fucking moment things were all working out, everything went to complete shit. How the fuck could her mom do this to her? His dad.. well that was another story but after everything Em had been through— it didn’t make sense to him. It wasn’t adding up. But he refused to do it. He wished that she would just understand he’s doing this for her. People would talk. No matter if they weren’t blood related, it would be the whole talk of the town. Em would be ridiculed and he would get off without a word. There was no way he was gonna allow that to happen… she had been through too much in her life to go through something like that again. And now she knows about Finley. Probably from fucking Asher. Quinn didn’t like the extra closeness between the two of them lately. Or had they always been that way? He didn’t know for sure. The amount of jealousy he’d had the day he walked in on them in the basement. The two of them cuddled up on the couch asleep was enough to drive him mad…. And it just about did. He had been at Chase’s barn the other night when he saw Finley. She had asked him how things were going — of course she had heard the news. The only reason he agreed to go was because he thought it would be better for Em if he wasn’t there. He didn’t know they’d already been planning a separate dinner anyway. Later that same night he had seen the girl from the last party weeks ago. He had made the same stupid decision again and if and when Em found out about that.. well he didn’t want to know what would happen. But he needed to …. No. He HAD to get over her. He had to forget her and move on. It was the only way to protect her. The girl, whose name was oddly Angel, was one of the only people he had ever met that lived in Eugene and didn’t know Fin. Eugene was a little town about 45 minutes away from where they lived in Andover. Finley’s dad lived there.. he had for years and years so she stayed out there a lot with him. Angel, he found out, was a few years older than him though. She was taking a year off college to help her mom run the little bar and restaurant she owned. It just happened to be the place out by the mill where the last fight had been. Her dad had recently passed away and her mom needed help keeping the place afloat. When she was telling him all this.. she mentioned she had been in college for a few years and only had a few more classes to take before she graduated. When she said this.. he finally asked her age. She was 22. It was fine with Quinn. He could handle an older woman. The only problem was he never.. ever.. double dipped so to speak. He never spent more than one night with a girl.. except for Finley of course since they had been together since they were kids. But the fact that Angel was older .. he figured she could handle it. He made everything clear to her up front. He was in love with someone else… and this would just be for fun. But he needed a distraction, and she would do the job. Until she left and went back to school… that is. She was going to be a nurse. Quinn really fucking hoped she didn’t get a job at the hospital where Carol worked because talk about all his different worlds crashing into one. Angel was sort of the opposite of Em.. and maybe that’s why he went for her. That and .. she was there and offering. She was tall and had long straight jet black hair. She was kind of a rocker type chic. Hell she worked at a fucking motorcycle bar. And the best part, her eyes were dark brown … the complete opposite of Em’s light grey moon ones. The ones he was staring into right now. He was having trouble looking away from them as they filled with tears. He sighed again. “Em….” He started. “I’ve explained all this to you already. I don’t even know why we’re still talking about it. We’re going to be siblings for fucks sake. We can’t be together now. Why would you even want to??” He was lying through his teeth but he wanted her to understand. He was back in his old ways of trying to hurt her just so she would hate him and stay away. The truth was.. he could give two fucks if they were step siblings. But he knew this town.. and he knew the ridicule she would endure. He was doing it for her. He wouldn’t tell her that because she would just try to talk him out of it.. and she might be successful. He was going to have to be harsh and he dreaded it more than he had dreaded his brother coming home a few months ago. “I’m having thanksgiving with Fin because she’s my family. You don’t want me there anyway. Elias and Chase are going too. Just have your dinner.. let me have mine what’s the big deal?” And just as he knew it would.. those words hurt her. He could see what he had done immediately from the look on her face. But even that wasn’t as near bad as what happened next. As luck would have it… if he wanted to push her away he was about to succeed. In that moment his phone rang. He had on purposely put Angels name in his contacts…. and for the cherry on top he’d taken a picture of her to pop up when she called. It was very obvious the picture was of the two of them in bed. He had taken it just a couple nights ago when he saw her again at Chase’s. He saw it the moment it happened. If he hadn’t succeeded in making Em hate him, he had at least succeeded in breaking her heart…… again. And fuck. He hated every single second of it.Quinn He sat in front of the brownstone townhouse staring at it. He’d been there for fifteen minutes and still hadn’t gotten out of the car. This was so fucking stupid. Why was he nervous?? This chic had brought out all sorts of feelings he’d never experienced before. But this had to be done. The day Em stayed with Asher, Quinn had gone shopping and gotten a few gifts. He should’ve done that shit earlier so he could order stuff online and it have time to get there. But as it was he didn’t do that. So now he had to go in stores. Which was also fucking stupid. After that he’d gone to see Elias and Chase and they’d figured out some stuff for the plan. Everything seemed to be going in the right direction. But, for it to work, things had to play out a very certain way, and that depended on everything going exactly right. But he would try it. He’d do whatever he could to protect Em from his psycho deranged brother. He was worried though. It had been ages since they’d heard anythin
EmEm frowned at the interaction between the two of them. She was obviously already aware that they knew each other. They worked together. Her mom found Mara for her. But the way they were talking in such a tense manner was … weird. She really hoped her mother wasn’t meddling in her therapy again. They were trying to mend things .. at least, she was. And this would not help, it would be very detrimental actually. Her mother happened to look up and see her standing there and immediately the demeanor between the two changed. Her mom said something to Mara who then turned and looked at Em. “Is that your mom?” Rainn asked. Em nodded. “Who’s she talking to?” Rainn asked her.. clearly picking up that the conversation was tense. “That’s Mara .. my therapist.” Em told her while giving Rainn a look. Rainn’s eyebrows shot up to the ceiling. Her mom walked down the hall towards her with Mara hot on her heels. Em didn’t want to get into anything in the middle of the hospital in front of al
Em“Hi Emerson …” Dany said politely. Dammit. It would really help if she wasn’t so likable. But she was. It wasn’t as if she hadn’t noticed that little fact. “I really like Dany… a lot” Quinn’s words came back into her mind and replayed like a broken record that she hated listening to. Of course he did. She was beautiful and mature. She didn’t have “tantrums” like Quinn had accused her of. In fact .. how many times recently had he told her she was acting like a child? Several. And then she saw it in her mind. How it must be for him. Her — having fits and screaming and punching him.. laying on the floor sobbing and curled into a ball… constantly whining about no one in her family being on her side. And then Dany .. older…. Mature… not acting like a crazy spoiled brat. Always smiling and always nice. Once again her stomach lurched at the thought. She realized she’d been lost in her thoughts and Dany was waiting on a response. “Hi.” She said finally. But whereas the woman acro
EmChristmas was right around the corner. Em still had a few gifts to get. She hadn’t even planned on buying things for her mom or John… but now.. since they were trying to rebuild a relationship, she felt like she needed to. She also hadn’t bought a thing for Sawyer … which had to be done obviously. She loved buying things for her brother. And then there was Quinn. If someone told her a week ago that she would be purchasing Quinn of all people a gift… she would’ve laughed her ass off. Yet .. here she was. She and Asher went shopping and had the best day… as she and Asher always did. They got coffee and ate lunch before scurrying in and out of stores at the mall. She couldn’t figure out what to get Quinn. She just knew it needed something meaningful. She prided herself on being a good gift giver. Em always took time and really thought about what she was buying for people. Whether it be something on their list .. or something they’d mentioned in the past … or something she thoug
Quinn He heard a car door slam and he jumped up from the couch. He had been waiting what felt like forever for Em to get home. He’d been worried sick and it took everything in him not to jump in the car and go find her. He should’ve insisted on going. Or having Asher go with them… he would’ve been more than happy to do it. He ran to the door and opened it.. smiling when he saw Emerson walking up the driveway. But the moment she looked up and their eyes met… the smile fell away. Something was wrong. If it weren’t evident on the frown she sent his way, he still would’ve known. He could feel it in the air. “Hey..” he said anyway. “How did it go?” She scoffed at him… then walked right past him and into the house. Okayyyyyy… he thought. He turned and followed her, shutting the door behind him. Em kept going without stopping .. into the kitchen .. she got a drink from the fridge. Then she passed by him again to go upstairs. He frowned. What the fuck was happening right now? And wh
EmShe was in a daze. She didn’t know how to feel. Or how to deal with these emotions. She and Rainn were in the car driving back home. It had taken her a few minutes before she could speak .. though Rainn was nonstop talking and asking questions and apologizing. When she had turned and seen Dany… the girl Quinn had been messing around with .. well. Woman. Her face had been just as shocked as Em’s was. It took both of them a second to remember themselves and that people were watching. “Hi Emerson…” Dany said finally.. plastering a smile on her face. “Hello.” Em returned. Though the smile.. just wouldn’t come. “Oh you two know each other?” Amy asked, oblivious to whirlwind going on in Emerson’s stomach at the moment. “Um yeah…” Dany said… “Christian is friends with Emerson’s brother.”Well well well she certainly did leave out a whole bunch didn’t she… Em thought. “Oh that’s amazing! Emerson’s starting working here in a few days .” Amy said. Dany’s eyebrows shot up to the sk
