Chapter 2

"Hey, darling, you can take the coffee for free" Miranda smiled down to a little buddy, who was offering her money for a cup of coffee. She'd had always loved children, perhaps it was mainly because she was never fortunate enough to have any other siblings, and, she thought giving the little boy just a cup of coffee for free wouldn't do no harm.

"Thank you so much, Mina" she heard the excitement in the little boy's voice, his eyes flickering brightly.

Miranda squatted down as she gave the little boy a hug, she was glad that she had made the little soul so happy.

If there was anything she wished so badly was to be very rich, so she can be of good help to many people, mostly to the people in her community.

Whispers from the coffee shop made her disengage from the hug, customers were like five in a queque with no one attending to them.

She gasp slightly, "I'll catch up with you later!" She winked at the young boy, walking hurriedly to attend to them.

"I'm so sorry for keeping y'all waiting" she apologized and then started taking down their orders.

Miranda pondered on what her grandmother was doing still doing inside the little room in the coffee shop. After she had finished high school, she had struggled to put up with college and had dropped out when the pressure was all on her grandmother, she had started helping her grandmother in the coffee shop so they could make some sales and save up for her college.

Miranda grew up knowing her grandmother as her father and mother, she was told that her parents had died in a ghastly helicopter scratch when she was just two years. Therefore, she was made an orphan at a very young age. With a sigh, she determined to go check up on her grandmother after she had finished attending to them all.

After she was done with attending to the customers, she bade them goodbye and then hurriedly went inside to check up on her grandmother.

"Grammy!" She called, awaiting an answer. When she received none, she pushed the door opened and walked in

"Gram...." The rest of the word got stucked in her throat as she took in the alarming sight before her.

"Grammy!!!!" She yelled, running to her grandmother.

She took in the sight of blood that was gushing out from her grandmother mouth , and the near death state she was in.

Miranda gave an alarming cry, she'd was confused if she should run to the neighborhood or rush her to the hospital herself.

In a heartbroken state, she searched her apron for her phone. Immediately her hand made contact with her phone , she wasted no time in calling the emergency line.

                   *******

Inside the hospital, Miranda was seen pacing restlessly, she'd had gotten to the hospital just minutes ago and luckily for her they had attended to her grandmother immediately.

She was still sobbing quietly wondering what went wrong with her grandmother, she'd had been alright that morning and then all of a sudden they were in the hospital, it was more like a dream to her. She sincerely wished for the doctor to come out and tell her what was wrong.

As if the doctor was reading her mind, the door to the ward suddenly opened, she quickly jumped to her feet. Searching frantically at the doctor's face, she'd was pretty good at reading emotions.

"Young lady, I suppose that's your mother?"

Miranda quickly nodded, "Yeah, she's my grandmother actually" Miranda corrected him.

"Well, she's in a critical condition and we would have to carry out a surgery on her before she recover, the nurse would tell you further information, I'm sorry, but I have a surgery to catch up with" The doctor apologized, walking off immediately.

The nurse explained to her the needful and had told her that the surgery shouldn't take longer else her grandmother condition worsen.

She had given her the bill for the cost of the surgery and had patted her assuringly that the grandmother was going to be fine before walking off.

Miranda had been so petrified to say a word the whole time, she inwardly had been doubting the whole scene in her head.

When she took a glance at the bill the nurse had presented her with, her heart sank deeply, she felt the world suddenly crumbling down before her.

Why her? Why now? Just when their savings for her college was yet to complete and this happened? Her hopes for going to the college was now dashed right before her eyes. That wasn't even more her bother, she thought on where the hell she was going to get the rest of the balance to perform her grandmother's surgery, their little savings would only go a quarter way and how was she going to get the rest.

She sobbed more, why was life this cruel to her, she had face with various hardship and yet it seems never to come to an end.

With a teary face, she staggered to her feet contemplating if she should wait any longer or go back to the coffee shop of she'd make any more sales on addition for the surgery bills, she can't just sit there crying and doing nothing when her grandmother life is in jeopardy.

She started walking, finding her way to the door, she cared less that her face was teary and that would make people raise a query.

She was already at exit, she saw two men in Black approaching and she waited patiently for them to come in, as she raised her brow up. She noticed another was coming in, if it was any normal day, she'd would have waited for him to pass, but that day, she was screwed and had enough of her charity work.

She brushed past the dude. Notwithstanding the fact that she had rumpled his suit and stepped on his shoes. She didn't care to apologise and was wondering what had came over her as she walked away.

                    *****

Ryan had an appointment with his dentist and had just arrived at the hospital when someone brushed past him, stepping on his shoes, without bothering to apologise.

His guard had made an attempt to go after the lady who did such a thing, but he had called them to a halt , preventing them from taking any step.

He stared after her shadow for sometime and was brought back to reality when her shadow was no longer visible in his sight.

What the hell was that? He queried himself, him of all people staring at a lady? And to top it all that he had easily let her off the hook, he was sure that he'd would had made life miserable for whoever had done that. It was just her luck that he was in a good mood that day.

With a snap of his finger, he started walking back.
