Chapter 10

I think it is established by now that whenever Aiden and I seem to look at each other, our eyes always trail towards each other's eyes. They are the complete opposite which makes it all the more reason to be attracted.

"Hey", I chirped, making James turn his head to take a look at who I was waving at. It was obvious to him that I didn't know anybody in this town except him and Anna. And right then, Aiden too.

Aiden made his way towards us and stood there impatiently.

"Shall we go?", he said, tapping his foot restlessly on the ground.

I frowned at him. He was unnecessarily rude to James by not acknowledging that I had company or that there was a familiar human right next to us. I decided to ease the atmosphere by ignoring his question.

"Aiden, this is James one of my best friends at work. James, this is Aiden, uhh you know?", I said, pointing at each other.

James replied with a 'hi' to which Aiden responded with a nod.

"Shall we go now?", he repeated. This made me even more agitated at him.

But before I could say something, James beat me into it.

"Actually, I need to go. See you at work tomorrow, Haven", he said, giving me a quick side hug and making his way outside the door.

"You were rude to him.", I stated, scowling at him while we walked towards his car.

He looked at me with an amused smirk and raised his brow.

"To who?", he said, aggravating me even more. "I was just picking you up."

"Yeah, it's silly of me to even tell you.", I scowled even more.

He laughed and for a second I felt blessed to hear that beautiful set of music. I covered it up with another scowl and turned on the car radio. I put my legs on the seat and folded them Indian style before relaxing back.

"You are ruining the seats.", he said with a fake serious expression.

"You are ruining my mood. Am I complaining about it?", I replied with a fake scowl.

We both began laughing while I punched his arm softly.

The car ride to his place was not as tense and quiet as it used to be. It was better and I would give anything to let it stay this way.

We got back home before Aiden said that he was going out to take care of something. I waved him goodbye and shook my head negatively when he asked me whether I wanted any personal essentials.

It was just me and Martha.

I responded back to the emails informing me about the phone call interviews that I was required to go through for the jobs.

As I continuously typed on my laptop, I heard a loud shrill that made me whip my head up in alarm.

It was Lisa.

"Haven!!!", she exclaimed, with a huge grin plastered on her face.

"Oh, hey Lisa!!", I said, recovering from the shock. "How are you?"

"I am doing great, love.", she said, plopping herself beside me. "How about you? Is Aiden being too much of a dickhead?"

I let out a chuckle and said, " Yes, but it isn't something that I can't handle."

Lisa being Lisa made it a mission to drag me out of the bed and take me out somewhere. She started doing my makeup after several protests against it. I had no other choice but to sit at the corner of the bed and pout at her stubbornness.

"Where are we going, Lisa?", I asked her, getting tired of the whole suspense.

"We are going somewhere to remind you that you deserve to have fun.", she said, sending me a quick wink, making me frown.

"I do have fun in general", I said, scowling at her.

She shrugged and nodded her head negatively. "I highly doubt that."

"Well, my definition of fun differs from yours. Also, when compared to your brother, I think I am far better."

Lisa started laughing. "Oh please! When compared to Aiden even an eighty-year-old grandma is fun."

After doing my makeup, she made me put on a little black dress and got dressed.

After a long drive, she halted in front of the most famous club in Shoresland, Bloodentine. I immediately cringed after getting down the car because of the loud ringing music.

"I don't think it is a good idea, Lisa.", I groaned. "I am not really into clubbing."

I would not be coming if I had known that we were going to a club. Crowded places terrify me usually. However, I guess I needed to get over it and start to move. A part of me was seeping with guilt as this big step was not with Anna. I decided to move forward anyway.

The smell of suffocation lingered in the air almost driving me away from the place. Yet, we slowly made our way inside. I observed Lisa as she confidently strode in like she owned the place. I trailed behind her while she waved at different people and finally took a halt at a spot.

"You seem to know a lot of people here", I said, spotting her doing a weird eye thing to someone, followed by a wave.

" I sure do. This is how you survive when you're one of the only girls in the kind of work we do, Haven.", she said, reminding me of Aiden with her mysterious words.

She ordered some drinks for herself while I got myself a soda. It had been so long since I drank. And I wanted to keep it that way. I listened to the mind-numbing music while Lisa went dancing until something caught my attention.

Anna.

My first thought was to go and meet her until I observed something else. She seemed to be bleeding and tense making me push past the crowd to meet her. I forgot about the fact that she did not know about my temporary stay at Aiden's place. All I could think of was Anna and something was wrong with her.

As I approached her, I saw her glance at me and widen her eyes. Before I could reach her, she rushed out of the place making me lose her in the crowd.

Something was definitely not right.
