"Hey, Athena!"
I was snapped back to reality because of what Vanessa did. This friend of mine, I swear—every time I’m deep in thought, she just has to ruin it.
"What now? I’m thinking here and you just had to butt in," I grumbled, but she only laughed.
"Sorry bestie, it’s just—you were totally spacing out. What were you thinking about again? Your secret admirer? My God, let it go already. We’re in our first year of college and he still hasn’t revealed himself," she said as she placed a cup of coffee in front of me.
Geez. She’s right, though. We’re already in college and I still haven’t found out who the first guy to make my heart race really is. I’m not even sure if that guy I met three years ago… was really him.
After what happened between the two of us, I never saw him again—and until now, I haven’t even returned the shirt he lent me. I don’t even know where he is now, but from what I heard, he went abroad to study. That’s why it feels impossible that he’s the same *Mr. Z* who’s still been sending me flowers, chocolates, and all sorts of things up to this day.
“He’s not the one I’m thinking about,” I denied. And, once again, Vanessa just laughed at me. Some customers even glanced at her because of it.
“Oh please, you’re not fooling anyone. It’s so obvious that you’re thinking about him. Just let it be—but don’t worry, I’ll find a way to help you figure out who he is,” she said, flashing a mischievous smile at me. What could she possibly be planning now?
“What are you going to do?” I asked, taking a sip of the coffee she gave me. I was never really into coffee, but since I started working at a coffee shop, I’ve gotten used to drinking it. Coffee is life, as they say.
“Don’t worry about it, I’ve got this—just wait and see,” she said with a meaningful smile. And when she smiles like that, I *know* she’s planning something I’d never expect.
“Anyways, what time are you leaving?”
“Around 5 PM. It’s still early, and customers are still coming in. I don’t want to leave you here alone.”
“Aww, you really love me, don’t you? Thank you, friend, you’re really so sweet to me,” she said with a smile before pulling me into a tight hug.
“You’re welcome. You’re the only one between the two of us who isn’t sweet,” I replied, which earned me a sharp look from her—but I just laughed it off.
We both work at a coffee shop owned by her aunt, Tita Lorna. I was supposed to be the only one working here, but she wanted to save up too, so she decided to work as well. We only have half-day classes at school, so we work in the afternoons. It's not a hard job, so we're still able to manage both schoolwork and work.
"Does Aunt Rosa know that you're working at a bar?" she asked. I shook my head in response.
"Why not? When are you planning to tell her?"
"I don't know. I'm scared she might get mad when I tell her."
Aside from working here at the coffee shop, I also work as a waitress at a bar during the evenings. And Aunt Rosa doesn't know about it. I didn’t tell her because I knew she’d get mad and wouldn’t allow me to do it. But I really need to work so I can support my education. I don’t want to depend on her anymore because I know how tired she is from working. I want to help her, so I’m willing to take any job just to ease her burden.
“She’ll be even angrier if she hears it from someone else. She’ll understand you as long as you explain things properly. There’s nothing wrong with what you’re doing, so I’m sure once you tell her, she won’t be mad—she’ll understand you even more,” she said as she gave me a light pat on the shoulder.
I let out a deep sigh. I really need to tell Aunt Rosa before she finds out from someone else. I just hope she understands why I’m doing all this.

Loud music from the sound system, people screaming and dancing, and colorful lights greeted me as I entered the bar. I’d gotten used to this scene every night, but there are still times when I question why I even chose to work here. I've only been working here for seven months, and even though I’m managing, this kind of environment can be a lot sometimes."Oh, you’re a bit early today, Athena?" one of my coworkers said in surprise when I entered the locker area.
"My shift at the coffee shop ended early, so I headed straight here. What about you, Lara? Have you been here long?" I asked as I placed my bag inside my locker. I grabbed my black apron and put it on so I could start working.
"Yeah, I got a text from the boss, so I didn’t have much of a choice but to come in early," she replied.
"Why? There aren’t that many customers yet."
"Because his friend just arrived—the so-called Mr. VIP."
I was surprised by what she said. Mr. VIP is Boss Yael’s best friend, and up until now, I still don’t know his real name. I’ve never seen him face-to-face either since I always seem to miss him whenever he comes by. But according to Lara, he’s good-looking and rich—and that's what we called him.
Our conversation didn’t go any further because I stepped out of the locker area to start working. The bar was getting more crowded now, the music louder, and there were already plenty of drunk people all over the place.
"Good evening, Brother Marky," I greeted the bar’s one and only bartender. He’s been working here for a while—three years, I think.
"Good evening, Athena. Glad you're here. Can you bring this to the VIP room? Lara’s been gone for a while now and she’s actually assigned there tonight," he said.
"No problem, Brother, I'll take care of it," I replied with a smile as he handed me a tray of liquor. Just the smell alone was expensive and intoxicating.
After thanking me, I headed to the VIP room. It was my first time going in, and I was really nervous. Usually, I only deal with regular customers, and I have limited interaction with VIP customers. But I was nervous, hoping that at least they’d be kind.
When I got to the VIP room, I knocked before entering. But I was surprised when I went inside. I expected it to be loud, but it wasn’t. It felt like being in a prayer meeting where only one person is speaking, and the rest are just listening. That was the situation in there.
Did I enter the right room?
"Oh, Athena, it’s you. Please place what you brought here, you might be getting heavy-handed."
It was Boss Yael, which means Mr. VIP is here?
I followed what my boss said and placed the tray of drinks on the table, setting down the glasses and a bottle of champagne one by one. But as I was doing that, I noticed that everyone with my boss was staring at me, and one of them might be Mr. VIP. I still haven’t seen his face, so I wasn’t sure who he was among the men here. It was confusing, especially since all of them were handsome and around my boss’s age. Boss Yael is still young, so I wasn’t sure who Mr. VIP was among his companions.
"Thank you, Athena," my boss said with a smile.
I didn’t say anything, just smiled in response and glanced at his companions, who couldn’t seem to take their eyes off me. There were five of them in total, so four pairs of eyes were focused on me, aside from my boss, who was busy drinking.
"Maybe Athena will melt from that," Boss Yael joked, and his companions quickly turned their gaze away. I couldn’t help but laugh quietly—they looked so cute.
"She's pretty," said one man wearing eyeglasses. He looked like he might be of Japanese descent, and he was really handsome and seemed smart.
"Yeah, why do you work here? A pretty woman like you doesn't belong here. Are you still studying?" said the man in the leather jacket, speaking seriously.
He sounded so serious, but it was hot to hear. Huh? Athena, stop it, that’s not appropriate. Get it together.
"Ah, y-yes Sir," I stammered, suddenly feeling embarrassed.
"Please cut the word 'Sir.' I'm just one year older than you," he said with a laugh, though his voice had a soft tone. I couldn't tell if he was flirting with me or if that's just how he spoke.
"God, bro, stop flirting with her. She's not the same as every woman you've met," another man interjected. "Anyways, I'm Thomas. Nice to meet you, Ms. Athena," he added with a smile as he stood up and walked towards me. He extended his hand toward mine, and I had no choice but to take it and shake his hand.
God, his hand is so soft.
"Get your dirty hands off her, Thomas!" another voice interrupted.
I was shocked by the man who suddenly shouted. We all turned to look at him, with surprise and confusion in our eyes. What was his problem?
"Chill, Mr. VIP, I won't take her away from you," the guy next to me said, raising both hands as if surrendering to the police before walking back to his seat.
But what did he mean by that?
Mr. VIP? My god, is it really him?!
I was relieved to leave that VIP room. It felt like I could finally breathe again after dealing with Boss Yael's friends, especially Mr. VIP. Even now, I'm still thinking about what Thomas said. What could that mean?Mr. VIP's stare earlier felt like it had something behind it. I'm not assuming, but that's truly how I felt. His gaze seemed to reach deep into my soul, like he was observing every move of my body. It wasn’t creepy, but it was certainly confusing. I don’t know what to think about that man—why does he look at me like that?Sigh, I ended up drinking three shots of tequila because I couldn't stop thinking about him."Athena."I had only been sitting at the bar counter for five minutes when I heard Boss Yael's voice again. What could he possibly need from me now? I really didn’t want to go back to the VIP room. I might get grilled by his friends again."Yes? Boss Yael, what do you need?" I asked, forcing a smile."I need your help," he said, which surprised me."Boss Yael, ar
WARNING! SPG SCENES!I couldn't do anything but stay there. Honestly, I wanted to leave because I could feel this strange energy around me, and on top of that, I was starting to feel dizzy. But he wouldn't let me go, even after I insisted several times. This was definitely not the right decision to have helped him. I really should have just left him downstairs and let the guard take care of him. But I would feel guilty if something happened to him.He walked toward his bedroom, and I just followed him with my eyes while I stayed seated on the couch. I breathed a sigh of relief when he made it inside without stumbling. This was my chance to leave.I walked slowly towards the door, but after only a few steps, I suddenly heard a thud from inside his room.I just run a hand to my face out of frustration as I walked toward his room. When you’re unlucky, Athena.I even made the sign of the cross before entering his room. And there I found him sprawled on the floor with no shirt on.I immedi
"Agh!" I groaned, clutching my head. I slowly opened my eyes and was greeted by an unfamiliar place. My eyes widened in shock when I realized I was in a condo.Whose condo is this? What happened? How did I end up here?"A-Agh!" I groaned again as I felt the pain in my lower body. Because of this, I slowly started to remember what happened last night."Oh my God," I whispered, covering my mouth.I was suddenly dismayed with despair as I remembered everything that had happened between me and that guy. I couldn't believe I had slept with a guy I barely knew."Why did I do that?" I asked myself, tears finally falling. I covered my face and sobbed loudly.I couldn't believe I had done that. I never imagined we would end up like that. I'm not that kind of girl, who would just sleep with a guy she didn't know well. Why did I do that? Why did I do something that would only ruin my life, my self?"Leave, once you're awake."This was written on a note I found on the bedside table, next to ten t
It’s been a week since that incident with that guy. And it’s been a week of being gossiped about by people around here. False rumors that are ruining my reputation.Because of what happened, everyone thinks I work at the bar to sell my body, in other words, a prostitute. I don’t know how it got to that point. I only told Aunt Rosa and Vanessa, but how did it spread all over the whole neighborhood? Neither Aunt Rosa nor Vanessa told anyone, but somehow, those rumors are everywhere."Dear, how are you feeling?" Aunt Rosa asked when she saw me coming down the stairs from my room."Still the same, Auntie, but I’m okay. Please don’t worry about me," I responded.I had just woken up because I wasn’t feeling well. I don’t know why, but I think it’s just because of fatigue and lack of sleep."Well, that’s good to hear, but later, don’t take any medicine, just for today," she said, which made me a little confused."Why, Auntie?" I asked, confused. She avoided looking at me and quickly headed t
“Are you sure you’re okay to go back?” Aunt Rosa asked as I came down from my room.“Yes, Aunt Rosa, I’m feeling much better now, so please don’t worry about me,” I replied.“Alright then, just be careful. If you start feeling unwell again, don’t hesitate to call me,” she said with concern, pulling me into a tight hug.“Yes, Auntie. I’ll get going now,” I said as I bid her goodbye and left the house.I was heading to school. I had already missed several days, so I really needed to go back. I’d missed a bunch of activities and quizzes, and even though I was still feeling a bit dizzy and my body was heavy, I had to push myself to attend so I could catch up. I didn’t really have a choice—not if I wanted to keep up, even if part of me still didn’t feel ready to return.“ATHENAAA!”I was startled when Vanessa suddenly greeted me like that. Her shout was so loud that almost every student at the entrance turned to look at her. Her face was unreadable, like something was wrong, but I couldn’t
"Thank you," I muttered while staring into the distance.I felt shy to look at him—I don't even know why, but maybe it's because this is the first time we've seen each other again after three years. The two of us are here now, up on the stage near the field. I’ve already lost the motivation to attend class because of what happened earlier. It's already halfway through the second period, and soon it’ll be time to go home anyway. I’ll just wait for class to end before heading home."Are you okay?" he asked. I immediately turned to him and caught him looking at me.He’s worried—I can see it in his eyes, but… why?“Probably you’re not, it’s written on your face,” he said, looking away from me. I could only sigh deeply, trying to stop myself from crying."I saw that post circulating in the social media that's why every students here in campus were talking and badmouthing about you."So he saw it too. Well, it’s been all over social media, even here in the university. It seems like almost e
I quickly stepped down from the chair and tightly hugged Aunt Rosa. It felt like I was suddenly brought back to reality because of what she said.In all the pain and sadness I was feeling, I had forgotten that there was a little one growing inside me.“I-I’m sorry, Auntie… I didn’t mean to,” I cried out. What I did was terrible. I didn’t even think about the baby inside me—about becoming a mother. It wasn’t their fault, yet I dragged them into my sadness and anger. I deeply regret what I did now.“Here, drink some water,” Aunt Rosa said, handing me a glass of water. I quickly took it and drank.I suddenly placed my hand on my stomach and thought to myself.Hang in there, baby. Mama won’t make another mistake that could hurt you.“Are you okay?” Aunt Rosa asked sadly, holding both of my hands.I gave a small smile and nodded in response. “Yes, I’m okay, Auntie. I’m sorry for what I did. I won’t do it again.”“I hope you never do that again. I don’t want anything bad to happen to you. B
"Are you sure about your decision?" Vanessa asked as we were about to enter the school gates.I nodded in response and gave her a small smile. "It’s probably for the best, so I can focus on taking care of my baby," I said.I was planning to stop studying. After everything that had happened to me, I chose to take a break and avoid people who only wanted to judge and insult me. Especially now that I’m pregnant, I need to be careful and take good care of myself."But you can still study while you’re pregnant, since your belly isn’t showing much yet," she replied."I know, but you also know how delicate my pregnancy is, right? A little stress could cause me to lose my baby, and I don’t want that to happen. I don’t want to stop studying, but I need to do this for my baby," I said calmly.I know what Vanessa is trying to tell me. She wants us to graduate together. We promised each other that we would finish our college studies together and achieve our dreams at the same time. But I won’t be
"Agh! It hurts," I groaned while holding my head.Oh my god, a sudden sharp pain just hit me.I woke up because my phone suddenly rang. It was just the alarm, but it jolted me fully awake. And to think—I drank last night.I really wish I hadn’t drunk anything. Now I’m stuck with a hangover. What time is it? I need to get to work—I can't be late, especially since there's a department-wide meeting."Oh my god! I'm late," I exclaimed in shock when I saw the time. It’s already eight in the morning, and the meeting is at nine. Oh no! I’m late!"Wait... w-who is..."I stopped when I realized something. What happened last night? How did I get home?Who brought me back here?"OH MY GOD!" I screamed in shock as the memories from last night came rushing back.We were drinking—me, Paula, and some of our officemates—then some guys approached our table... and then—"M-Mr. Zach..." I covered my mouth and sank to the floor.I remember seeing him at the bar... then he dragged me out and put me in his
"Did you say something, Athena?"I immediately looked at Paula, who was now looking at me with confusion. She was a little tipsy, and I wasn’t sure if she also saw our boss."Sir Zach... I saw—"But he was gone when I looked back."... there..."Where did he go?It was really him I saw. I’m not hallucinating or imagining that he was here. And I’m not even drunk yet."What did you say, Athena?" Paula asked while leaning her ear toward me.I just shook my head in response and took a shot of gin. They had ordered another round of drinks that I didn’t notice. Our drinks were a mix of everything, but I just hope we’re not crawling home later."Another shot, Athena. Let’s make the most of it while we still can," Trixie said while handing me another shot of gin."Is this what you meant when you said we weren’t going to get drunk, Paula?" I teased, looking at Paula, who was now quietly sitting on the side, holding her head. She was drunk."It’s just this once, I swear it won’t happen again,"
I slammed into the chair after finishing what Miss Lina asked me to do. Thankfully, I finished it before lunch so I can rest later. It’s Monday, but I can already feel the intense exhaustion. Yesterday, I didn’t do anything except rest the whole day and take care of my child. But when I get to work, all the energy I saved up gets drained. And now, only ten percent is left."Thena, there’s a girl's night out later, are you joining us?" Paula asked as she approached me, with Maurice following behind her, carrying his bag and ready to head down to the cafeteria for lunch."Girl’s night out? But it’s Monday today," I said as I put my scattered things into my bag on the table."It’s just to relieve the tiredness. Don’t worry, we’re not going to get drunk, and it’s just the girls from our department joining later. No boys, only girls," Paula replied, which made Maurice laugh."That's why it's a girl's night out, right? Because there are no boys, you're not thinking straight," Maurice said w
I thought that once I finished fixing his internet, I’d be able to leave, but I was wrong. He still had me sort his files on his laptop by year. This wasn’t part of my job; it was supposed to be the work of his secretary. But since he’s my boss and I’m just his employee, I did what he asked. His friends were still here in the office. They’d been here for about an hour and a half already. They didn’t do anything else but talk about business.I realized that Sir Zach’s friends were also wealthy and well-known figures. The three of them were CEOs and heirs to their family’s companies. I couldn’t believe the life they were living. I thought they were just ordinary citizens of the Philippines, but I was wrong."Sh*t! What’s that?" I muttered when I suddenly felt my stomach growl. "Tsk! I haven’t eaten yet," I said as I realized that Sir Zach had given me tasks right when I was supposed to be eating. What should I do?Should I ask permission to eat?OrShould I ask to step out for a while?
I let out a deep sigh as I once again thought about what happened yesterday — my meeting with Sir Lim and the things we talked about that left me with so many questions.I'm still wondering, still confused about what he said. I still can't believe what he told me about Zachariah — that he suddenly stopped showing up to him. Why? Why did he suddenly disappear?I know I shouldn’t be thinking about it anymore, but... I want to understand why it happened. But how could I find out when even now, I'm still too scared and unwilling to tell him about what happened between us in the past and about our child?"Tsk! Stop thinking about it, Athena. Just stop," I suddenly told myself as I threw myself back against the chair.I'm already here at the office, working on the task assigned to me by Miss Lina, my supervisor. It's not really that difficult since it’s just about the new software for our department. But I still haven’t finished it because I kept thinking about the conversation I had with S
"Didn't he find it strange when he saw Aaron?" Vanessa asked as she placed a glass of juice on the table."Thanks, Van. Umm, I don’t know, but he seemed interested in getting to know Aaron," I replied. We had arrived at Vanessa’s house, and I had already told her about what happened earlier at the school. It was just the two of us in the living room now, while Aaron was in his room watching cartoons. Vanessa had asked him to stay there so we could talk freely without him overhearing."That's a bad omen, Athena. What if he became interested in getting to know Aaron because he noticed they look alike? He even noticed it about your son. So, it’s really possible he saw that. You know what they say about a blood connection? Maybe that's why your son is confused and questioning things."I fell silent and placed my hand on my head. I’ve been thinking and worrying about my son’s situation for a while now. Now that the two of them have met, Aaron won’t be able to get Sir Zach’s face out of his
I suddenly faced Sir Zach, who was now looking at me, but I couldn’t see any emotion on his face. My heart was gripped with anxiety when he glanced at Aaron, who was also looking at him now.I quickly grabbed Aaron by the arm and pulled him behind me before he could notice how much they looked alike.“S-Sir Zach, I didn’t realize you were there,” I stammered nervously. “W-We won’t be staying long, I still have some things to take care of at home and—”“But your son still wants to play with his friends,” he cut me off. I fell silent and looked at Aaron, who was now frowning as he stared at Sir Zach.Dear God! He’s starting to notice something, and I’m sure later he’ll have a lot to say or ask me."Mommy, who is he?" Aaron asked curiously as he walked over to my side and held onto my arm. But his eyes remained fixed on Sir Zach."Umm... sweetheart, he’s my boss—""Your grumpy boss, Mommy?" he cut me off, turning his gaze away from Sir Zach. They really are father and son—always interrup
It’s Friday today, and the meeting at Aaron’s school is also happening today. That’s why I woke up early and got ready for it. Good thing it’s my day off, so I don’t have to worry or think about the work I left behind at the office. And I won’t be seeing my boss the entire day.It feels so good. I just hope the Lord gives me this day without having to see him. I just want to avoid him and not think about him—just for today.I need to focus on the meeting because this is for my son’s happiness. And I don’t want to ruin it just because I keep thinking about that guy.“Mommy, is it okay if I play with my classmates while you’re in the meeting?” Aaron asked while we were walking toward his classroom. We had just arrived at the school, and it seems like we’re early. I think I might be the only parent here for now, but that’s fine. Better that than having the teacher wait for us."Of course, sweetheart, just don’t go too far and don’t talk to strangers, okay?" I replied, and he nodded in re
Why did he suddenly ask that? And how did he know? I hadn’t said anything to Dr. Matteo for him to ask me something like that.Could it be that Dr. Matteo noticed I was scared?"Sir—""N-Nevermind, just go now and take some rest," he said, turning away. "I'll just tell my secretary to bring the food to your office," he added, walking back to his desk.I didn’t answer, just turned around and left his office.Once I had escorted Dr. Matteo to the ground floor, I headed back to my department and resumed the work I had left behind. The food Sir Zach ordered had arrived in the office, and there was enough for all of us."What's going on? Why did Sir Zach send food to the office?" Maurice asked, confused. Paula just shrugged because she didn’t know the answer."Maybe he's in a good mood, so he decided to give us food," Paula replied. We were all in the restroom, getting ourselves ready since it was almost time to go home. They didn’t know about what happened earlier because I didn’t tell th
