I was relieved to leave that VIP room. It felt like I could finally breathe again after dealing with Boss Yael's friends, especially Mr. VIP. Even now, I'm still thinking about what Thomas said. What could that mean?
Mr. VIP's stare earlier felt like it had something behind it. I'm not assuming, but that's truly how I felt. His gaze seemed to reach deep into my soul, like he was observing every move of my body. It wasn’t creepy, but it was certainly confusing. I don’t know what to think about that man—why does he look at me like that?
Sigh, I ended up drinking three shots of tequila because I couldn't stop thinking about him.
"Athena."
I had only been sitting at the bar counter for five minutes when I heard Boss Yael's voice again. What could he possibly need from me now? I really didn’t want to go back to the VIP room. I might get grilled by his friends again.
"Yes? Boss Yael, what do you need?" I asked, forcing a smile.
"I need your help," he said, which surprised me.
"Boss Yael, are you sure you want me to take him home?" I asked when we finally reached the outside of the bar.
He needed my help to take home Mr. VIP. Yes, him. I couldn’t understand why he chose me for this task, especially since I wasn’t exactly close to him. He's my boss, so I had to obey, but taking home his drunk friend wasn’t part of my job.
"Yes, you already know the address, right? Don't worry, after you take him home, you can go home," he replied.
"Huh? But boss, my shift isn't over yet," I said in surprise.
"Don't worry about that, okay? Just take him home to his condo, then you can go home. There's a security guard at his condo, just ask for his help and let him handle him," he said, then glanced at his friend in the taxi who was already asleep from drunkenness.
"But boss-"
"You’ll handle him, okay? Thank you, Athena. I'll give you a higher salary at the end of the month," he said while walking back into the bar. It felt like he didn't care how he treated me. Is he really my boss and professor?
"Yes, not only is he my boss, he's also my professor in history, so I'm extra nice to him because if I'm not, I might fail his class.
I was stomping my feet in frustration, and I felt like crying too. If he weren't my boss, I would have probably punched him by now. He really made me do all of this. And his friends—ugh! They just left him there and didn't even bother to take him home.
"Thank you," I thanked the taxi driver when he helped me get my companion out of the car when we arrived at this guy's condo.
"Tsk! You're heavy, get yourself together!" I said in annoyance as I started walking, supporting Mr. VIP, who I still didn't know the real name of.
He had his arm clung around me, but every step we took felt wobbly because of his height and weight. I'm so small, and he's like a six-footer. What could I do against a guy like him?
I started feeling a little dizzy from the drinks I had. Just three glasses, but it hit me hard.
"Where’s the security guard? What am I supposed to do?" I said in frustration, almost on the verge of tears, as we finally reached the entrance of the condo.
I should have just stopped here and gone home, but now how would I get back? There was no guard like Boss Yael had mentioned.
"Hey, what floor is your condo unit on?" I asked, tapping his face gently. He seemed to stir, turning to me, but his eyes were still half-closed.
Lord, he's so handsome, but he reeks of alcohol.
"Room 6... 6... 614." Wait, what did he say? 614?
"Room 614?" I asked, and he nodded as an answer. I helped him again towards the elevator. We both got in when it arrived, and I pressed the button for the 6th floor, where his condo was.
Ugh, I felt so tired because of him. It's frustrating. Boss Yael could've easily done this himself. They were the ones who drank together, and he's not even drunk, while I'm stuck being the one to help his friend. And I don't even know this guy well. Why would Boss Yael trust me to take care of his friend?
When the elevator doors opened, I helped him out again. My steps were slow because I didn’t want us both to fall. If he got hurt, I’d be the one blamed, and I definitely didn’t want that. I could even lose my job because of him.
"Hey, password," I said, tapping his cheek again.
He immediately woke up but kept his eyes closed as his hand reached for the door. Why not just tell me the password and let me press it? But no, he didn’t trust me. Though, I could still see the password even if he didn't say it.
"Close your... eyes," he said when he noticed I was looking at his hand.
He’s so stingy, but I didn’t argue. I just closed my eyes so this would be over, and I could leave.
Suddenly, the door beeped and opened. Thank goodness, even though he was drunk, he could still remember the numbers.
I helped him inside his condo. Even though it was dark, he somehow found the light switch. This guy was something else.
The lights came on, and I was finally able to see the layout of his condo. It was beautiful, even though it had a black-and-white theme, and there were only a few things displayed. The living room greeted me first, then on the right was the kitchen, and to the left, I think that was his bedroom.
"You should be fine now, I’ll be leaving," I said, letting go of him, but he stopped me by grabbing my arm, which really surprised me.
What was he planning to do? Surely, he didn’t have any bad intentions toward me, right?
"Please stay... j-just for a few minutes, please," he said in a pleading tone.
Oh my God, my heart.
“Auntie, can you please take care of things here for now? The team building will only be for three days,” I said to Aunt Rosa when I arrived in the living room. She was with Aaron, who was waiting with her for his dad and me.“Yes, dear, I’ll take care of everything here. Don’t worry, I won’t let anything happen to Aaron,” she said before smiling at me and giving me a hug. I responded to her hug and then turned to my son, who was now looking at me sadly.“Aww, don’t be sad. It’s just three days, and your daddy and I will be home right after that,” I said as I hugged him and kissed him on the cheek.“I’ll just miss you both. You and daddy will be gone for three days and I won’t get to be with you here at home,” he said tearfully after I hugged him.“Don’t be sad, son. Three days will go by quickly and you’ll be with me and your mommy again. We’ll be home soon, we promise,” I heard Zach say as he arrived in the living room.Aaron immediately stood up to approach and hug him. I just watc
I suddenly lost the motivation to work because of the things he said earlier. I know I’m not the only one he scolded and lectured, but it felt like all of it was directed at me.What else do I have to do for him to trust me? Because the way he looked at me earlier, it was like he had no trust in my abilities. It’s like everything I do is trash in his eyes. Like I’ve never done anything right or good for his company. It’s exhausting, and I feel like I just want to rest.“Athena, let’s have lunch first. You can finish that later. There’s still plenty of time, and the deadline has been adjusted anyway,” Trixie said as she approached my table.“You two go ahead, I’ll follow. I still need to go to Finance to follow up on the budget proposal. I promise I’ll catch up,” I answered and gave her a small smile.“Oh, isn’t Marketing the one assigned to that?”“Yeah, but it’s fine with me. I’ll just catch up with you there.”Trixie didn’t insist any further and eventually walked away, while I went
“Mommy, is there a problem?” Aaron asked, breaking the silence that surrounded us.I stopped eating before looking at him and caught him glancing back and forth between me and his daddy. I also noticed that Zach suddenly stopped as well and looked at his son.“There’s nothing wrong, sweetheart. Why do you ask?” I answered, and I noticed that he suddenly looked sad.“It’s just that I noticed you and daddy haven’t been talking to each other since earlier,” he said, which made me glance at Zach, who was already looking at me. But I quickly looked away from him.I’m not in the mood to talk to him right now.“Did you two have a fight?” he added, the sadness already visible in his eyes.“We’re not, baby. We were just preparing for work, that’s why I didn’t get a chance to talk to your mom. But we’re fine, the two of us. We’re not mad at each other,” said Zach, glancing at me awkwardly. But I still didn’t say a word. I let him explain things to his son—after all, he’s the reason I’m feeling
I was still thinking about what Yael told me earlier, even after I got home to the penthouse. When I found out about it, I didn’t ask him any more questions—I just nodded in response, even though the truth was, I didn’t really know what he was talking about. I want to hear the rest of the story from Zach because I have a feeling that issue is connected to what happened in the past.“Mommy, what time is Daddy coming home?” Aaron asked from the living room, where he was doing his homework. I, on the other hand, was in the kitchen preparing our dinner.“I don’t know, sweetheart, but I think he’s on his way home,” I replied.Zach and I didn’t go home together earlier, and I also didn’t tell him that I was going ahead. I wanted to say goodbye, but he wasn’t in his office at the time. I don’t know his schedule, and the only one who does is his secretary. I want to call her and ask where Zach is, but she might find it suspicious.“Does a boss always come home late at night, Mommy?” Aaron ask
I’ve been staring blankly at my computer monitor for a while now. I don’t know when I’ll finish the report I’ve been working on since this morning. Lunch break is almost here, yet I’m still stuck doing this.Ugh, I don’t know. I don’t understand why I still keep thinking about what Zander told me last Saturday. We never got the chance to talk about it because we went home the next day at his brother’s insistence. Everything happened so fast, I don’t even know what to do about it."You’ve been spaced out for a while. Here, our boss asked me to give you this," Maurice said as she arrived at my desk and placed a cup of coffee in front of me."Thank you," I replied and gave her a small smile. And then there’s Zach—he’s been messing with my heart and mind since yesterday. Because of the way he’s been acting, I don’t know what he’s trying to say, and I keep giving it a different meaning that only makes my mind even more confused."You're welcome. That coffee was free at the lobby earlier, b
"Umm, can we talk?" I asked Zander before Zach could question him about that so-called "date" of ours tomorrow."Sure, let’s go to my room," he replied, glancing at Zach and grinning, which made his brother frown.Ugh! Here he goes again. Why does he love teasing his brother so much?"Zander…" I said, my voice already carrying a hint of warning."Just kidding, let’s talk somewhere else," he said, laughing as he walked ahead.I just watched him walk away, shaking my head, before turning my gaze to Zach—only to realize he was already looking at me. But his expression was serious, and his brows were furrowed.“What was that, Athena?” he asked, his voice tinged with irritation.“I’ll explain it to you later. I just need to talk to him real quick. This won’t take long, I promise. Go ahead and check on Aaron, I’ll follow you there,” I quickly replied, then immediately walked away to catch up with Zander. That’s when I remembered—he did ask me out on a date last week, and I said yes. But I’v
