Chapter 5

Janet's POV

"I'm not quite satisfied with this necklace; it's lovely, but it doesn't quite match my worth," I remarked with a hint of disappointment in my voice.

"That's perfectly understandable. What type of necklace are you interested in, ma'am?" the sales associate inquired politely.

"I'd like something..."

"You know what, refresh my memory, how much did you mention it costs?" I asked, my brow furrowing in mild irritation.

"$1,850, ma'am," the sales associate replied, trying to maintain a professional demeanor.

"Oh please, just forget about it." I said, rolling my eyes and shaking my head in disapproval.

"What did you say that one's price is again?," I asked, pointing to a red ruby necklace that caught my eyes.

“Oh my gosh, Janet that would suit you so much,"

“I'm so jealous of you right now, I wish I could be you,"

“Stop dreaming, Janet is too beautiful to be you," My friends praised me since it was my wedding preparation. I invited them over to help me select the most expensive jewelry to wear at my wedding.

The fun thing about this jewelry selection is that I could pick anything and bills were all on Asphalt.

I wanted to wear the most expensive clothing to flaunt how rich and lavish I could spend my husband 's money without worrying about a dime.

As a model, a lot of guests would expect alot from me. I don't want to stand at the altar looking like a shabby bride letting people talk trash about me. I was a public figure and I needed to shame my enemies at my wedding marking the stance of not being on their level anymore.

“Give me the most expensive jewelry here, my wedding has to be perfect," I said to the sales woman who had come to the house.

“This one is 3,999 dollars. It's a the latest design of SLN,"

“I will collect that," I demanded, not caring about the amount it cost.

“Now that I thought of it, we haven't seen the handsome man who put that diamond ring on your finger," Vivian muttered and I smiled.

I knew that she wasn't really happy with my rich wedding. These women were all sneaky bitches who followed me for my money. Unlike me, they were C list models leeching off from me.

“Exactly, your husband should be here who knows, he might buy the entire brand on this table," Carissa added.

“That's true but he is currently at work making more money for me to lavish on expensive things I want. And our wedding plans too, he is such a darling," I boasted and they smiled carrying on with their ungenuine flattery.

“Margaret," I called the old maid who I disliked from the very first day I met her. She kept referring to my sister whenever she wanted to say something and that pissed me off.

“I'm tasty, go get me and my friends chilled orange juice," I ordered her with a smug smile on my face. That fact that I could order her around made it possible for me to show her who the real madam of the house was.

She scrambled away to fetch the orange juice while I and my friends continued to select the jewelry that caught our eyes.

“This one will be good for you after the wedding party. You are really lucky to have such a rich husband. Could you link me with his friends at your wedding?Sarah, who had been quietly observing, mentioned.

She was the only one I couldn't read. She knew how to mask her emotions and intentions by liking anyone's ass. But I didn't care that I was rich and better than her now.

I'm really happy that I carried on with my mom's idea. If not, Jasmine, my sister, would have been the one enjoying all this luxury.

Speaking of my sister, no one knew about her whereabouts and unfortunately know one cared to find her. She was completely useless and senseless. I believe she would be suffering by now with those children of her's if not dead by now.

Margret returned with a tray of orange juice filled in four glasses. As she was dropping the tray on the table, a glass fell and stained my givenchy white wedding dress.

I swear she did that on purpose. She never liked the idea of me marrying Asphalt and I bet she would do anything to ruin it.

“ you incapable old hag. Are you blind or something?Look what you've done to my wedding dress," I raised my voice at her but she remained calm.

“I'm sorry miss Janet, I didn't do this on purpose. I was clean up the mess immediately,"

“Clean up, I bet your salary won't be able to buy a quarter of this dress you just ruined. I can see that you are too old to handle this job of yours," I reeled at her.

“Miss…"

“Shut your mouth Butler Williams or you will be getting fired with her too," I yelled at him.

“Miss Janet," Margret called me, disregarding the Mrs. That was supposed to accompany my name. “I have apologized for my mistake. I didn't cause this mess on purpose so you have no right to shower those insults of yours on me," she said pushing my buttons.

“You old hag, you still have the guts to speak rudely to your master's wife. Do you know what they can do to you for this? You better kneel down and start begging for her forgiveness," Vivian spat out and I smirked at her.

"Well let's see if she will remain here after I report her to my husband," I mocked, dialing Asphalt's number.

Immediately he picked the call, I broke down in tears.

“Honey, you won't believe what Margret did to me, you have to come home immediately. She has hurt me so badly I don't think I can stand her in our house anymore," I lied.

“What did she do to you?You know what, I'm coming home," and that was all it took for me to bring him back home.

“You should be ashamed of what you have done just now. Master Asphalt isn't someone you should joke around with. He has so much to think of rather than paying attention to a cunning woman like you. You will never be like your sister," she blurted out, insulting me deeply. Out of anger, I throw down the tray breaking all the glass in the process.

“How dare you compare me to my worthless sister?. You better find an explanation before Asphalt gets back," I barked at her.

After some minutes, Asphalt walked into the house and I rushed over to him acting like a mistreated wife.

“I'm so glad you came back soon. Just look at what Margret had done. I know she hates me but this too much," I acted smiling evilly in my mind.

“What happened here?," He barked, jolting me in fear.

“Miss Janet had inflicted me with insults after I had apologized multiple times for spilling juice on her wedding dress," Margret explained and I burned in anger.

“You lying hag…" I tried to say but Asphalt shut me up. I was startled by his attitude towards me. Asphalt had never raised his voice on me let alone scold me.

“Don't you dare address her like that, Janet," Asphalt coldly scolded me, humiliating me in front of my friends.

“Are you taking her side after what she did to my wedding dress?. I am your wife remember!," I bit out but he walked past me and held Margret on her shoulders.

“Don't you ever talk to her like that ever again or else I will never forgive you," he threatened me before walking away with Margret.

My friends didn't bother talking to me because they knew I would lash out at them. One by one they took their purse and left the house.

I boiled in anger for how Asphalt had chosen a mere maid over me. He had humiliated me and placed that old hag before me.

Insulted, stormed out in tears going over to my parents house.

“Mom, I don't think Asphalt loves me anymore," I wailed on arriving at my parents house.

“What did he do to you?Did he touch you?," My mom questioned, looking all over my body.

“That bastard, how dare he make my daughter cry," my father voiced out, turning red from rage.

“Come down and tell us what exactly happened," my mom said and I cleaned my tears.

“Remember that old maid I told you who hated my guts. I asked her to bring me and my friends orange juice. And when she was serving the drinks, she intentionally pushed a glass down staining my wedding dress," I narrated to my parents.

“Did he fire that witch? How dare she do such evil to my daughter?," My mom vented.

“I called Asphalt home and explained everything to him. And instead of siding with me, he shouted at me in front of everyone and put that woman before me. I have a feeling that the two of them must be having something going on between them because he treated her so dearly in everyone's presence," I explained.

“I swear I will make Asphalt pay for what he had done to you today. He is going to regret crossing paths with our family once I'm done with him," my dad declared and I felt happy that he would move mountains to get revenge for me.

“That's enough he will still come back for her. Remember our agenda to make him worthless. In the meantime, go and have some rest in your room Janet while we wait for his arrival," my mom said.

I was glad to be blessed with a smart woman as my mom. She was so scheming and manipulative. I liked that when she wanted something, she would go all out to get it.

“Now listen Janet, do all you can to get pregnant with his child that way he would favor you over every other person. We need to make your stance in his life prominent. You should be his first priority in everything he does until we completely reap him off," my mom added.

I went up to my room feeling better. After some hours, Asphalt's car screeched in our driveway. I smiled at my mom's assumption and prepared myself for the next to come.

“Good evening, please I have come for Janet I need to see her," I heard Asphalt say as I walked down the stairs.

“You should learn not to make your bride upset, especially when it's a few days to your wedding. People would think that you both don't love each other," my mom did the talking while my dad glared a hole into Asphalt's forehead.

“Can I see her now, I need to talk to her," he said, sounding more calm and gentle than before.

“Janet, your groom has come to take you. Listen to what he has to say and make up for the fight," my mom smartly said and I followed.

I got into his car, remaining silent until he drove up in front of a boutique. We got out and he held my hand.

“Janet, I don't want you disrespecting Mrs Margret. She is someone I truly cherish. And I won't accept any form of insult you throw at her," he warned and I felt my blood rise.

“Who is she to you anyway, at least tell me what position she stands in your life?. I asked him.

“She is like a mother to me and I don't want you fighting with her or for you to hold any form of hatred towards her. I don't think I want you to do that next time," he slashed me off.

That was the problem, I wanted him to cherish only me and no else. "Fine," I said.

We walked into the boutique and he assigned a fashion designer to take my measurements for a customized wedding dress which cost billions.

Happy, I kissed his cheek accepting his way of apology.
