The ride back home was quiet. Kyle hadn’t spoken a word after ending the training session, and Selene had been too lost in her own head to break the silence.

Liam’s glare in the backseat burned holes into the rearview mirror, but Kyle didn’t flinch.

When they finally pulled up in front of the small house, Kyle simply said, “Next week. Same time.” Then, without another glance, he drove off, leaving Selene standing there with Liam’s frustration radiating off him like heat.

The moment they stepped inside, Liam rounded on her. “What did he mean?” he demanded, his young face twisted with confusion and anger. “When he said that thing about the victim and the villain. Why does he talk like that to you? Why do you let him?”

Selene sighed, leaning against the door and rubbing her temples. She could feel the echo of Kyle's gaze still burning in her mind. “Liam, it’s not that simple-”

“No, it’s exactly that simple!” Liam’s voice cracked slightly with emotion. “If he hurts you so much, why don’t you just stay away from him?”

Selene’s chest tightened. “I don’t get hurt around him,” she said softly. “It’s… complicated. Things between me and Kyle aren’t what they seem to you.”

Liam crossed his arms, frowning. “Then what is it? Because all I see is him making you feel bad.”

She crouched down to his level, brushing a hand over his hair. “There’s a lot you don’t know about our past. Kyle isn’t just some man, Liam. He’s our Alpha. He’s… different. I know you’re worried about me, and the pack being mean towards me but you don’t have to protect me from him. Okay?”

Liam’s expression softened slightly, though the stubborn clench of his jaw didn’t fade. “I just don’t want him or anyone hurting you.”

Selene smiled faintly and kissed his forehead. “I’ll be fine. I promise.”

Later, Selene slipped into her room under the pretense of freshening up. Instead, she sat on the edge of her bed, staring blankly at the wall as thoughts of Kyle swirled through her mind.

Why did he have to look at her like that? Why did his words still feel like they carried something more?

As much as he tried to act cold, there was always that flash in his eyes... that heat that made her think he wasn’t as detached as he claimed.

“Stop thinking about him,” she muttered to herself. But it was useless.

An hour later, she forced herself to focus on something else. She grabbed her bag and headed to the local grocery store. Their supplies were running low, and Liam had been eating like he was already halfway to a wolf’s metabolism.

As she browsed the aisles, she mentally counted the dwindling bills in her purse. Her stomach dropped when she realized just how little she had left. Rent. Groceries. Liam’s school fees.

Although she managed to save quite a lot moving away from the city back to her hometown, the cheaper expenses still caught up to her small purse.

Then suddenly, a thought came uninvited...

' Would Kyle lend me some money if I asked?' The very idea made her cringe. He’d probably laugh in her face. Or worse, throw another insult her way.

But… she could say it was for Liam, and also, she would pay him back. She wasn’t asking for charity. It would just be temporary. This thought stayed in her mind all through her shopping.

When she got back home, she spent the evening trying not to think about it. By the time she went to bed, she’d already made up her mind: tomorrow, she would ask him.

She hated the thought of needing him. But for Liam’s sake, she had to put her pride aside.

This was for survival, not out of want but need. She had no choice.

The next morning, Selene woke early to take Liam to the local school where must pack member's kids attended. This was one of the reasons she'd convinced herself with move back to their hometown as Liam's awakening might cause trouble for her if he continued to school in the city.

Of course she'd considered homeschooling him, but, this was just better. Considering she had Kyle in mind back when she made the decision.

The building of the school was modern but close-knit. More so, Selene hadn't expected that it was run by a pack member she hadn’t seen in years.

The moment she walked into the office, the principal grinned at her.“Selene? Well, well, well. I never thought I’d see the day you’d come back here.”

The man was quite the good-looking guy, but his lanky stature left many room for criticism. Besides, there's news he's quite homosexual.

She forced a polite smile. “Good morning, Trevor."

He chuckled, leaning back in his chair. “You used to act like you were too good for this town. Look who’s back now.”

Selene ignored the jab, keeping her tone level. “I’m here to enroll Liam.”

Trevor glanced at Liam, then back at her with a knowing smirk. “Fine, fine. Fill out the paperwork. Welcome home, I guess.”

After filling the paperwork and all, they left. Liam scowled on the way out. “Why did you let him talk to you like that? I hate people making fun of you.”

Selene squeezed his hand. “It doesn’t matter, Liam. Some people just like to remind you of who you used to be. I’m not going to let him ruin my day.”

But deep down, the bitterness lingered.

After dropping Liam at class, Selene decided to find Kyle.

Her plan was simple: she’d ask him about the money. She’d do it calmly, like a business transaction.

However, when she reached the packhouse, she found his truck gone and no sign of him at home.

‎The drive to school was considerably quieter than usual.‎‎At least on Liam's side.‎‎Kyle noticed it almost immediately.‎‎The boy sat in the passenger seat staring out the window, occasionally shifting in his seat and then pretending he hadn't. Every few minutes, he'd let out a sigh for absolutely no reason before falling silent again.‎‎Kyle smirked.‎‎Liam was trying very hard to act normal. Unfortunately, Kyle had been a teenage boy once. He knew exactly what this looked like.‎‎"Nervous?"‎‎Liam nearly jumped, "What?"‎‎Kyle kept his eyes on the road,"You're nervous."‎‎"I'm not nervous."‎‎"Sure."‎‎"I'm not!"‎‎Kyle studied him briefly, then nodded solemnly."Of course, you're not. You're just silent for no reason."‎‎Silence.‎‎Liam didn't respond like he always would. ‎‎"You kissed a girl, Liam. You didn't start a war." Kyle said in the end.‎‎The boy slumped lower into his seat, sighing in defeat,"I know. But it just feels weird to face her after all that."

  • Chasing the Alpha I Once Rejected    Family

‎Morning sunlight spilled through the curtains in long golden streaks, painting Selene's bedroom in warm hues. For the first time in what felt like forever, she woke without anxiety squeezing her chest.‎‎The events of the past weeks felt distant now. Not gone, but quieter.‎‎Beside her, Kyle was still asleep.‎‎Selene turned slightly, studying his face. Even relaxed, there was something strong about him. The stubborn set of his jaw. The faint scar near his eyebrow. The way he seemed larger than the bed itself.‎‎A smile tugged at her lips.‎‎Carefully, she leaned over and pressed a soft kiss against his forehead.‎‎Kyle's eyelids fluttered, "This," he muttered sleepily, "is always a nice thing to wake up to."‎‎Selene laughed.‎‎Kyle opened one eye, "Morning, sweetie." he greeted.‎‎Selene rolled her eyes, but the smile remained, "Morning".‎‎Kyle stretched experimentally,"Hah! Now that was a night." ‎‎ Selene smiled, remembering the wildness of the night, "I know, right?

  • Chasing the Alpha I Once Rejected    That thing

‎Hidden behind the bushes near the lakeside, Selene and Kyle watched the entire exchange between Liam and Ivy unfold beneath the silver glow of the moon.‎‎The sight before them was simply too surreal.‎‎Liam and Ivy stood by the water's edge, their reflections stretching across the moonlit lake as they stumbled through confessions neither of them seemed fully prepared to make.‎‎Kyle wore an increasingly amused smile throughout the whole thing.‎‎Every now and then he would glance toward Selene.‎‎Selene, meanwhile, looked as though she wished the earth would open and swallow her whole.‎‎The second-hand embarrassment was almost unbearable. Especially because it involved her son. Nevertheless, she was no less proud.‎‎When Ivy finally declared that they should leave before their parents started looking for them and the pair disappeared back toward the festival grounds, silence settled over once more.‎‎For several seconds neither Kyle nor Selene spoke.‎‎A second later, Kyle

‎The walk to the lake was quieter than the festival.‎‎The further Kyle and Selene moved away from the crowds, the softer the sounds of celebration became. Music faded into the distance. Laughter became faint. Even the occasional howl from pack members celebrating beneath the moon seemed muted by the surrounding trees.‎‎Soon, only the gentle rustling of leaves and the chirping of insects accompanied them.‎‎The lake lay beyond a small grove, its waters calm and still beneath the night sky. Moonlight spilled across its surface like liquid silver, transforming the dark water into a shimmering mirror. Above, the full silvery moon hung impossibly large, casting an ethereal glow over everything it touched.‎‎Selene stopped. For a moment, she simply stared.‎‎"It really is beautiful." she said shortly after.‎‎Kyle looked at her rather than the lake, "I know."‎‎Selene noticed and just rolled her eyes immediately, "You know that's not what I meant."‎‎Kyle chuckled. She had missed

‎By sunset, the entire park had transformed into something straight out of a dream.‎‎Colorful ribbons fluttered from wooden posts, lanterns hung from tree branches, and long strings of decorative lights stretched across pathways despite the sun still being high in the sky. Music drifted through the air from various corners of the festival grounds while the smell of grilled meat, pastries, roasted nuts, and sweet syrup-coated treats mingled together in an irresistible blend. Everywhere Selene looked, people were smiling.‎‎Children raced through the crowd with painted faces. Teenagers clustered together around game stalls. Families occupied picnic blankets beneath the trees. Couples wandered hand in hand, already treating the festival as if the moon itself had arrived hours ahead of schedule.‎‎Standing in the middle of it all, Selene found herself momentarily lost. The last time she had attended a Full blue Moon-watching Festival, life had been so different.‎‎She had been younge

‎By the time Liam got home, the sun had already begun its slow descent toward the horizon, bathing the town in warm golden light. The streets outside glowed softly beneath the evening sky, and there was a strange excitement in the air that hadn't been there earlier in the week. ‎ ‎He barely had time to step through the front door before he heard movement upstairs. ‎ ‎"Mom?" ‎ ‎"I'm up here!" ‎ ‎Selene's voice floated down from the second floor. ‎ ‎Liam dropped his backpack near the entrance and headed up. When he reached the hallway, he found his mother standing in front of her bedroom mirror. ‎ ‎She was getting dressed. ‎ ‎Not in her usual work clothes nor in her stay-at-home clothes either. ‎ ‎She actually looked like she was preparing to go somewhere. ‎ ‎The realization made Liam pause. ‎ ‎Selene had changed into a simple but beautiful outfit that suited her perfectly. ‎ ‎A tight dark dress that reached her knees and a coat. Nothing too ex

No matter how much one tries to ignore it, somehow, doubt always had a way of settling into hearts.‎‎Selene, still leaning by the kitchen counter, couldn't shake the doubt in her heart despite the fact that it's been a long while since Clara went upstairs. ‎Selene stood in front of the mirror longer than she should have, tilting her head this way and that, brushing down the silk dress Clara had insisted she wear.‎‎ It was a deep red dress, low enough at the neckline to make her second-guess herself, but not scandalous. ‎‎Her reflection didn’t loo

‎The door had barely clicked shut behind Aiden when Clara’s voice came shrieking from upstairs like a siren of chaos.‎‎"Did I just hear him ask you out on a date?!"‎‎Selene groaned, dragging her hand down her face.
