"Burn it." My voice comes out flatter than I expect. "I don't sit in a chair Draven's crow has touched."

POV: LunaSOON is still bleeding across the iron throne, the letters smoking faintly where he gouged them into the metal. My throat tightens around the sound trying to climb out, and I swallow it. I turn my back on the throne and face the three thousand waiting in the basin."Burn it." My voice comes out flatter than I expect. "I don't sit in a chair Draven's crow has touched."They drag the throne away. I notice the word wasn't carved. The metal grew it, like frost forming on glass, and I pull my hand back before the iron can answer me.We're splitting up. Orion's palm lands on my shoulder, heavy and warm. "I won't kneel to the Senate. Not after what he did to those pups. If they want me on my knees, they'll have to break my legs first.""Come back." My voice is steady. My grip on his forearm isn't. "That's a command from your Luna."Kai is already half-shadowed. "Kaelene will not fall. But if it does, I will not send word. Do not mistake my silence for death. I'm simply very quiet w

  • Claimed By Four: The White Wolf Luna    CHAPTER 29: The Crow's Token

POV: LunaMy hand is stiff. I keep flexing my fingers at the mouth of the command tent, trying to loosen the four-notch crescent so it doesn't lock up. Draven's laughter still tastes like copper at the back of my tongue. Outside, three thousand survivors wait in the basin; wolves, bears, mountain lions packed together among Thornax's broken columns.Kai presses an iron circlet into my hands. "You don't have to wear it yet. But if you walk out there bare-headed, they'll see a girl. Not a queen."I don't want the crown. I want thirty seconds of silence. I want Jace's forehead against mine and Aiden's arms locked around my spine. But the notch pulls, reminding me Draven is already building.I settle the circlet over my brow and step into the basin. Three thousand faces turn. The survivors have split by instinct. Silver wolves left. Black-furred Jathorne exiles right. Orithorne bears in a tight knot at the rear. Kaelene mountain lions draped along the broken upper walls. I walk the space

  • Claimed By Four: The White Wolf Luna    CHAPTER 28: Bound by Silver and Ebony

POV: LunaThe chord tightens, tugging at the bone behind my chest until white light bleeds through my skin. It branches across my wrists and climbs my throat, pulsing with an erratic rhythm that doesn't match my heartbeat.Orion yanks his hand back, fingers twitching. "My pull hits her and slides right off. Like trying to catch water with your hands."Kai doesn't even blink. "It's not rejection. The seal wants opposing forces." He looks at Aiden, then at Jace. "Silver and black. Woven together. Or she won't last the hour."The room goes still. Orion presses his palm flat to the stone, his eyes glazing as his consciousness sinks into the bedrock. When he speaks again, his voice drops, slow and heavy. "The Lunissa architects built the seal in pairs. Silver absorbs. Black projects. Alone, either one would tear her apart.""They create a circuit," Aiden finishes. Quiet. Already understanding."You're saying it has to be both of us." Jace doesn't raise his voice. It just goes flat.Orion n

  • Claimed By Four: The White Wolf Luna    CHAPTER 27: White Wolf Unbound

POV: LunaThe mountain shudders and I feel it in my molars. We're running. Aiden's fingers bite into my wrist hard enough that I'll probably have marks tomorrow. Jace's claws rake the stone behind me whenever I drift sideways, steering without touching. Orion's breathing grinds behind us, wet and uneven."Archway's caving," Jace barks. "Thirty strides. Don't slow down."I don't. I haven't slowed down since I was six years old and the orphanage kitchen caught fire. Running is just what I do.My chest splits. Not from the running. Something behind my sternum gives way, and pressure floods through the gap. My vision fractures. The corridor becomes two versions: stone still stone, but beneath it, silver lines run from body to body, and four of them end inside me, pulling tight enough to hurt."Aiden." My voice comes out strange. "Something's tearing.""I feel it too." He doesn't slow. "Don't wrestle it yet, Luna." Easy for him to say. He's not the one with pressure building behind his rib

POV: LunaThe teeth are already there. Inches away. My body locks, held by the instinct that refuses to let go of the smell; burnt sugar and wet copper, like something decaying behind its own ribs while still drawing breath.Silver collides with her flank. Aiden, half-shifted, fur bursting across skin still half-human, drives into her hard enough to knock the breath out of me. The bite veers. Teeth scrape stone instead of my throat, spraying white-hot sparks."Move, left, now." His voice is flat, like he's trying not to waste air.I move. Not because he told me to. Because my legs finally remember they belong to me, and the cold shock of almost dying unsticks something in my spine. Before Raven can recover, Jace slams into her right side; still shifting, his fingers stretched into hooked claws, his jaw halfway to a muzzle. He rakes four jagged furrows down her black-veined spine, and she screams four ways at once, one human and three not."You take left, I take right." Jace doesn't lo

  • Claimed By Four: The White Wolf Luna    CHAPTER 25: The Weight of Violet Light

POV: LunaThe black isn't nothing. It's a fist.I pull air in and get nothing back for it. There's a taste under my tongue, pennies maybe, or blood I haven't bled yet. Then the whole thing tips sideways, not up, not down, just in, like the room's trying to fold me smaller. They're still here. That's the only thought I can hold onto right now. I can feel them. The dark cracks open. Violet comes back too fast, and it hurts, actual physical hurt, behind my eyes.Orion goes down first. All that size, all that weight, and it just folds, like something kicked the legs out from under a mountain. His staff clatters off somewhere I can't see. Kai's next, one knee cracking against the obsidian, daggers skittering out of his hands like they want no part of this. The air above us bends. Not shimmers. Bends. The way water looks right before it starts to boil, except there's no heat, just wrong.Draven hasn't moved..His voice isn't in the room. It's in my teeth."You feel that? That's what a bond
