ISABELLA

“I wish your brother could see his beloved sister like this,” he said.

His voice was calm, almost quiet but the weight of it crushed me.

It sliced deeper than any knife.

I sucked in a shaky breath, but the pain settled low in my belly like poison. My chest tightened. My stomach churned.

If my brother were alive…

Damian wouldn’t be standing in this room. He wouldn’t be breathing. He’d be rotting in the dirt with a bullet between the eyes.

Damian crouched in front of me again. I could feel his breath brushing my face, warm and slow.

“What do you think your brother would do now,” he whispered, “in the underworld where he belongs?”

I broke.

Something inside me cracked wide open, and the silence that followed was deafening.

Tears streamed down my cheeks, hot and relentless, painting paths down my bare chest. I couldn’t hold them back. I didn’t even try.

My body trembled, but I didn’t move. I couldn’t.

How did I get here? How did this become my life?

His voice cut into the moment.

ISABELLAThis has to be a dream. A wild, reckless, impossible dream. Damian cold, cruel Damian just kissed me. Softly. Gently. As if I mattered. Before I could even process it, he lifted me off my feet like I weighed nothing and carried me into the bathroom. The bathtub was already filled with warm water, steam rising around us like a veil. He didn’t say a word as he lowered me in, his eyes never leaving mine. The heat soaked into my skin, but it was nothing compared to the fire already stirring deep inside me. My body tensed as he stepped in after me, fully clothed well, almost. The water lapped around us, and then he started undressing me, slowly, carefully. Every brush of his fingers against my skin was electric, making me tremble.I should have pushed him away. I should have screamed. But all I did was gasp.He peeled away the last piece of fabric, and I was bare beneath his gaze. I didn’t want to look at him, but I did and I froze. He was half-naked. His boxers clung low to his h

ISABELLAIt had been three days.Three long, quiet, heavy days since someone tried to take me from Damian. And three days since I last saw him. Not a glimpse. Not a single word. Just silence.Tracy stayed close hovering, chatting, trying to keep me company like I wasn’t losing my mind wondering where he was. But now, even she was gone. I sat alone on the edge of my bed, staring at the door like it might open if I just wished hard enough.I hated how much I missed him.I knew Damian was probably handling the man they caught. And knowing him… that man wouldn't last. Damian never forgives. Not when it comes to me.A soft creak snapped me out of my thoughts. The door opened. And there he was.Damian.His frame filled the doorway like a shadow dragging the night in with him. Broad shoulders. Blood-smeared sleeves. Alive. My lungs forgot what to do.“Damian,” I breathed. My voice was barely sound, but my feet moved on their own. The soft patter against the cold marble floor echoed louder th

DAMIANTwo fucking days. That’s how long he’s been tied to that rusted metal chair, wrists swollen from the cuffs, blood crusted on his face like war paint. He hasn’t said a single word. Not his name. Not even a damn groan. Just breathing heavy, shallow and stinking of sweat and blood. The kind of stink that settles in your nose and stays.Diego stood beside him, breathing hard, his shirt damp with effort. He dropped the blood-slicked whip onto the table littered with tools. Knives. Pliers. A blowtorch. All used. All red.“I don’t think he’s gonna talk,” Diego muttered, wiping his hands on a dirty towel. “He’s ready to die like this. Won’t give up the name. Not even under this.”The guy’s head lolled forward, blood dripping from his busted lip. His chest rose and fell slowly. Still breathing. Still silent.Stubborn fuck.I stepped back, running a hand through my hair, jaw tight with frustration. Just then, the door creaked open and Richard walked in, holding a file.I left Diego with

ISABELLAThe sharp crack of gunfire echoed closer, louder too close. My breath hitched as Damian grabbed my hand, yanking me toward the side of the room. In one swift motion, he drew a gun from beneath his jacket, his jaw tight, eyes scanning the shadows. He pulled me behind a crumbling concrete block, shielding me with his body. I clung to him, burying my face in his chest, fingers digging into the back of his shirt. I didn’t want to let go not now, not ever.“Who… who’s there?” I whispered, barely able to hear myself over the pounding in my ears. My heart wasn’t just racing it was thundering, as if it might break free from my chest. The sound of it filled my head.Suddenly, Damian pressed his hand gently over my lips. His eyes narrowed in warning. Another shot rang out this time inside the building. My whole body flinched.God, what if his men… what if they’re all gone?A sick feeling twisted in my gut. I didn’t care if it made sense I wanted someone, anyone, even an enemy, to stop

ISABELLA"Don’t I get to know at least a hint of where he’s taking me?” I asked Tracy again, my voice tight as I adjusted the dress one last time in front of the mirror. The golden fabric clung to my curves like a second skin, hugging my waist and hips with unapologetic boldness. I knew I looked good hell, I looked dangerous but the shimmering beauty of the dress couldn’t distract me from the cold metal of the collar brushing my skin. The dragon insignia gleamed faintly under the light. It marked me. Claimed me. I hated it… yet, some twisted part of me felt anchored by it.Tracy’s reflection appeared behind mine in the mirror. “Come on, Isa, we need to go before boss does something crazy,” she said, already pulling me by the arm.The hallway blurred past as she dragged me toward the car park. My heels clicked against the polished floor, but my heart pounded louder than my steps. And then I saw him.Damian stood beside the black bulletproof car like he owned the night, dressed in a dar

ISABELLAI sat on the edge of the bed, knees pulled to my chest, staring blankly at the sunlight spilling across the tiled floor. The warmth from the window did little to chase away the cold sinking into my bones. Damian’s hug from yesterday haunted me like a ghost brushing its fingers across my skin unexpected, too soft, too unfamiliar. Why did he hold me like that? Why now? What changed? It didn't add up. Damian never did anything without a reason. And that embrace... it felt like something deeper, something fragile trying to claw its way through the cracks between us. But I couldn't place it.A sudden creak of the door pulled me from my thoughts. My breath hitched when I saw her Tracy. She stood in the doorway like a memory brought to life. Neat ponytail. Expression unreadable. I hadn’t seen her since the day I was brought here. All this time, not a single familiar face. Now she was here, in my room, as if no time had passed."Miss Isabella," she said gently.I stood, eyes wide, my
