A knock at my door startled me from my thoughts.

“Luna?” A voice called. “May I enter?”

My heart skipped because I knew that voice too well. Whenever he visited the pack house, his voice always rang out in the dining hall. But I was never face-to-face with him.

Beckoning on me meant one thing. I was going to be with the Alpha’s nephew who was almost the same age as him, alone.

Could the ground open, so I’d fall in?

“Come in,” I said hesitantly.

The door opened, revealing the familiar yet revered face of a man with the same dark hair and strong features that marked him as Blackthorne blood. But where Zane’s face was all hard edges and cold authority, this man’s expression was open. Friendly even. His eyes crinkled at the corners when he smiled, as if he were a complete natural at it.

“Forgive the intrusion,” he said with an almost theatrical bow. “I’m Kaius. Alpha Zane’s nephew.” He straightened, his grin widening. “I was around the pack house, so I came to pay special greetings to the latest and most glorious Luna in the wolf world.”

The flattery. I was going to fall for it, except that he was of the same blood as Zane and I had learnt better than expecting anything from anyone of that bloodline.

“Thank you. I am Tiana,” I simply replied, hoping that Kaius would make a turn and leave, but he walked past me and crossing the room with easy confidence, dropped into one of the chairs as if we were old friends.

My face distorted in confusion, and as he caught it, a small smile spread on his lips. “I am sorry, was I interrupting anything?”
“Umm… no. I–” Before I could finish, he continued.

“I’m just curious about the woman who finally got my uncle to settle down.” He paused, his expression turning thoughtful. “Though ‘settle down’ might not be the right phrase, considering his actions at the bonding ceremony. I did not want to think much about it, but the gossip in the pack was disturbing.”

Intentionally acting like I had not heard his last statement, I probed. “You were at the ceremony?”

“Arrived late. Missed the actual vows, but caught the very romantic moment where he abandoned you at the altar and stormed off.” Kaius’s tone was light, but his eyes had sharpened. “But I guess it’s not my business.”

“Mmmm…” I subtly replied. I did not want to be a scapegoat by saying anything treasonous about the Alpha because in the worst case, the Alpha blood flowing through Kaius could save him, but I won’t be spared.

“Luna, you see, I had heard from the pack of how the Alpha mated with a mere servant, but I wonder how they failed to mention what beautiful brown eyes you have.”

“Oh…” the words slipped from my throat. I was not sure what to, or how to respond to Kaius.

“Thank you.” I added.

He leaned forward. “Listen, I know my uncle can be a bit… difficult. But it does not in any way describe the Blackthorne family or the entirety of him.

Also, I wanted to introduce myself properly and let you know that if you ever need anything, at least for the time I am around, you can ask me. I’d be glad to be of help.”

I shook my head softly. “Thank you!”

“If I may ask though,” I continued. “Why?”

“I mean…” Just as I tried to throw more depth and clear the confusion to my innocent question, Zane’s voice followed, cutting through the air like a blade.

“Kaius.”

Almost at the same time, we turned our heads to find Zane standing in the doorway, specifically, the one that connected our chambers.

His eyes locked on his nephew. “I don’t remember the Luna asking for your help.”

“Why are you here?” Zane’s voice was deceptively quiet.

“Meeting my new aunt,” Kaius said easily, though I noticed he’d straightened in his chair, some of the casual warmth leaving his posture. “Is it wrong to do that too?”

The muscle in Zane’s jaw ticked. “No, but I don’t appreciate it. So get out.”

“Uncle—”

“Now.”

Kaius held his gaze for a moment. Then he stood, offering me an apologetic smile.

“It was nice meeting you, Luna Tiana. I’m sure we’ll talk again soon.”

He left, and then it was just the two of us. Zane and I.

Now, Zane’s strategy became even clearer. Isolate me. But why?

I did not even have any family, so that was enough isolation. Just at the start of a potential friendship, he was nipping it in the bud.

The isolation he caused me was it not already enough?

Zane stared at me as soon as Kaius left “What did he want?”

“Just to introduce himself,” I said carefully.

He moved further into the room, and I resisted the urge to step back. “I’d prefer if you kept your interactions with Kaius… minimal. He may be family, but you are my mate. I won’t have the pack gossiping about impropriety.”

The irony of that statement—coming from a man who couldn’t even bear to look at me—was staggering.

“There’s nothing improper about—”

“I don’t care what there is or isn’t,” he cut me off. “I care about appearances. You’re Luna now. Act like it.”

He turned to leave, then paused in the doorway. “The healers will be here at dawn. Be ready.”

Then he was gone, the door shutting firmly behind him.

I stood alone in my chambers, my head spinning.

In the span of ten minutes, I’d met someone who’d shown me more genuine kindness than my own mate had in days.

And Zane’s response was to forbid me from speaking to him, noting his preferences.

I looked at the glass wall separating us and wondered—not for the first time—how I was supposed to survive this.

Tiana His thumbs brushed over my nipples again and I couldn’t stop the sound that escaped my throat. Heat flooded through me, pooling low in my belly in a way that had nothing to do with pregnancy and everything to do with the man whose hands were on me. “Zane.” His name came out of me breathless in a way that should have embarrassed me. But I was beyond embarrassment. Or thinking about what this meant or whether we should be doing it. All I could focus on was the feel of his hands on my breasts, the pressure of his thumbs circling my nipples, and the way my entire body had gone tight with want. “If you want me to stop, tell me now.” “Don’t stop,” I replied The growl that came from him was pure male satisfaction. His hands moved with new purpose, palming my breasts fully now, kneading them with a pressure that bordered on rough but felt perfect. My nipples were so sensitive—had been since the pregnancy started—and every touch sent sparks of pleasure racing through m

Zane I stared at the map spread across my desk, the red marks indicating rogue sightings multiplying like a disease spreading through our territory. Seven incidents had been recorded in the past two weeks and I was not sure how to feel about it. All testing our defenses at different points. I was certain that it wasn’t random. Rogues didn’t organize like this unless someone was directing them. “The pattern suggests they’re probing for weak points,” Ezra said, leaning over the map. “Testing response times and guard rotations.” “Preparing for something bigger.” I traced the line of marks with one finger. “They’re gathering intelligence.” “Should we increase patrols?” “Yes. Double the night watch on the eastern border. That’s where they’ve been most active.” I made notes on the report. “And I want eyes on the elder meetings. If someone’s feeding information to rogues, it’s coming from inside the pack.” Ezra’s expression darkened. “You think the corruption goes that de

Tiana “I’m afraid I have some news.” Healer Iris’s voice carried a tone that immediately made my stomach tighten with anxiety. I sat up straighter on the examination table, my hands instinctively moving to my stomach. “Is something wrong? With the pup?” “No, no.” She waved a hand, then let out a soft chuckle. “Nothing like that. The pup is fine. This is about me, actually.” The relief was immediate but short-lived as I waited for her to continue. “I’ve been summoned for a sacred pilgrimage,” Iris explained, moving to organize her instruments. “It’s required of all senior healers every decade. We take a journey to the Moon Temple to renew our oaths and receive blessings from the Goddess.” “Oh.” I processed that information slowly. “How long will you be gone?” “Six to eight weeks, depending on travel conditions and how long the ceremonies take.” She glanced at me, and I saw something that might have been an apology in her eyes. “I know the timing isn’t ideal. You’re st

Zane There were still tears in her eyes and it disturbed the flow of her speech. I knelt there in front of her, my hand still on her shoulder, completely out of my depth. I had faced rogue attacks that could have destroyed everything I had built. I had made hard decisions that cost lives and harder ones that saved them. But I had no idea what to do with a crying pregnant woman on the floor of her chambers. “Tiana,” I said quietly. “You said you are sorry?” “Yes.” She shook her head. “Why?” “Because everything is wrong and I don’t know how to fix it.” My hand moved from her shoulder without conscious thought, settling gently on her stomach. In the place where our pup was growing. She didn’t pull away. Just covered my hand with both of hers, holding it there like she needed the connection as much as I suddenly did. “The healer said the pup is healthy,” I said, trying to understand. “I know.” “Then what?” “That’s the problem.” She let out a shaky breath. “

Tiana “Lie back,” Healer Iris instructed gently. I did, settling against the cushioned surface and staring at the ceiling while lying on the raised table in the examination room, as her hands moved over my abdomen. Her touch was professional, but I still tensed. “Relax,” she murmured. “I’m just checking position and development.” I tried to relax, failing woefully at it. Her hands stilled over my lower stomach, pressing gently. Then she smiled. “There,” she said. “Feel that?” “Feel what?” “The slight firmness. That’s your uterus expanding to accommodate the pup.” Her smile widened. “Right on schedule.” “Everything looks good,” Iris continued, moving her hands higher, checking other things I didn’t understand. “No signs of complications. No abnormalities in development.” Relief flooded through me, unexpected in its intensity. I hadn’t realized I had been holding my breath waiting for bad news. “The pup is strong,” Iris added, helping me sit up. “Healthy. Develop

  • Claimed by the Alpha, Desired by His Blood   Chapter 81

Zane I found myself in the pack library at midnight, surrounded by books I’d single-handedly picked out—mainly to avoid questions from Ezra. ‘Pregnancy and the Wolf: A Comprehensive Guide. Maternal Health in Shifter Populations. The First Year: What to Expect When Expecting a Pup.‘ The titles alone made me feel ridiculous like some anxious first-time father instead of an Alpha securing his lineage. But I opened the first one anyway, scanning through chapters on fetal development and nutritional requirements. According to the book, the pup was barely the size of a lentil at six weeks. It had no heartbeat yet that could be detected outside the womb. Just cells dividing and organizing into something that would eventually become a person. My heir. I tried the word out silently. My child. Neither felt real yet. I flipped to a chapter on common complications, and my jaw tightened with each paragraph. Miscarriage. Developmental abnormalities. Maternal health risks. So many
