Chapter 1
Lunette POV
"Are you threatening me dad?" I threw my hands in the air and looked at my father with my jaw dropped.
"It's not a threat but don't you get it?" He groaned. "You think we want this for you? If there was another way, we would have taken it."
I laughed sarcastically. Is this man kidding me?
"Really? Forcing me into a marriage with a stranger. A man I barely know?" I snapped my head toward my mother.
She looks stressed out but not as much as I am. I'm literally going crazy.
"Mum, say something. I know you're not in support of this idea," I heaved.
She stood up and walked towards me. Holding my hands. She had a pitiful look on her face.
"I'm sorry baby, but my hands are tied. There's nothing I can do. I also want you to marry for love but realistically, it's clearly impossible for now," her voice is laced with guilt and defeat.
I snatched my hands away from her. My eyes blazed and my nose flared. I dug my hands into my scalp, ruffling my hair aggressively.
I paced back and forth and I bit my lower lip. My hands are folded against my chest.
They don't get it. It's impossible for me to spend my life with a man that I don't love.
No matter what it is, there was no way I would let people decide my future. My heartbeat quickened, as I fought myself in my head.
This was supposed to be a secret but hell, anything to get out of this trap.
"I have a boyfriend and I love him. We plan to get married after graduation." I announced.
My parents froze, as they looked at me. However, my dad didn't look impressed nor convinced.
I raised my eyebrows at both of them. "Hello, say something because I'm literally going crazy," I groaned as tears stung my eyes.
"You never mentioned this to us, never introduced him to us and because we're discussing your engagement, suddenly you inform us about this?" Dad frowned.
I shook my head. "You raised me better. For Pete's sake, I'm not lying. Don't you think it would be better for me to be with a man that I know to an extent?"
"He is probably your course mate and..." Dad's voice trailed off.
"Say it, dad. You've literally said a lot of hurtful words to me this evening. One more wouldn't hurt more," I chuckled.
He sighed heavily and walked away.
Great!
"I guess the conversation is over," I yelled.
"No. Not especially when we haven't come to a meaningful conclusion." My mother said,
I rolled my eyes. "I don't think we'll ever have that ending, if you are not transparent with me."
"Stop being stubborn. You keep insisting when you know he's human. Does he even know what you are?" He shouted from the stairs.
A lone tear escaped my eyes but I wiped it off angrily.
It hurts because he's right. Would Dorian still want me after discovering that I'm different? Like.... abnormal.
"So what? Am I supposed to remain single for the rest of my life because according to you, we are the only werewolves in this world." I clenched my hands, digging my nails into my skin.
Both of them went silent and shared a glance.
It was suspicious but I didn't dwell on it.
"Am I suddenly talking to myself?" I paused. "The man you want me to marry, is he not human too?"
"At least he can protect you," my mother said in a pleading voice.
I staggered and palmed my face.
Protection.
Exactly the reason I've been waiting for. They are finally opening up.
I sat down and nodded my head. "From what?" My eyes pierced theirs. Daring them to let out the stuff they scared off.
For the first time in my life, I saw Dad scared. It wasn't him pretending to trick me so I could do his bidding.
He was truly frightened.
What are they protecting me from?
If it's a person, then who?
"Is the company filing for bankruptcy?" I asked and mother breathed out. Dad helped her to take her seat.
"That's not it... Some things can't be explained easily but I know you'll understand later," my mother's voice was shaky and a bit hoarse.
And here I thought we were making progress. That they were willing to let me in and not make me feel like an idiot but I was mistaken.
That's it. I think we're done here. I stood up and walked upstairs to my room. Soon I returned with a small luggage.
"Where are you going? We're still talking," my dad frowned as I walked past him.
"No. We're done. I have to get back to school now."
Dad was getting pretty mad. "Don't you dare walk out on us. Have some respect. Will you?"
I sighed and stopped in my tracks.
They were making this difficult and if I don't leave here, I feel like I might crash out and it's not going to be good.
"What exactly do you guys want from me? I'm not the one keeping secrets. If you want me to agree to your arrangement, then give me a decent reason. For fuck's sake, I'm not a child."
"But you're a child to us. Our baby. How can we not be worried about your safety?" Mother cried.
A lot was going on and I hate that they don't trust me enough to tell me. I shifted my gaze and blinked back the tears that threatened to fall.
I hate this. Without another word, I left. Ignoring their calling.
I got into my car and drove off. My school is close to my house and that made it easier.
My heart was breaking. My lips quivered but I tried to get a grip on myself. I need fresh air and only one person can help.
So instead of going to my apartment, I needed to cool off. After driving for thirty minutes, I arrived and parked in the garage.
He should be in class but it's cool, I'll wait for him. Thankfully, he gave me a spare key.
I stood before his door and inserted the key. His television was on.
I walked in
o the bedroom and I felt my world crumbling before my eyes. My jaw dropped.
My entire world shattered in a single breath.
Lunette's POVIt's been four days since the confrontation with Kaleth, and I haven't seen much of him since then, not like I was complaining.I heard that he was on a business trip. And I'm grateful. It would be better if he never came back.I cleaned the kitchen as I finished cooking. Placing the plate of stir-fry spaghetti in a tray, I took out a bottle of water. As I started walking towards the stairs, some maids moved farther away from me like I was a plague. They still showed courtesy, and I was not a fool to delude myself into thinking that it was out of respect because it wasn't.I'd rather accept that it was out of fear for Kaleth. As for me, they probably blame me for what happened to their co-workers.It's ridiculous how they blame me and never the true killer. They are all cowards. They never liked and I guess to satisfy their conscience, I was a better option as a scapegoat. After what happened, I've decided to survive. Not for anyone but myself.I'm still young, and I hav
Kaleth's POVThe guards stationed at the entry pushed the gigantic golden gate open and bowed. I walked into the hall.My face was void of emotions. My demeanour was rather calm on the outside, but my blood was boiling as her words continued to ring in my head."You killed them.""You'll never have my heart."I never wanted her heart. Since the beginning, she was nothing but a pawn in my game of revenge. She should hate me, especially with everything that I had done to her. Since I hate to admit it, she was innocent in all of the rift. Her parents are my mortal enemies. Too bad she was the only and most effective way to destroy her parents. She hates me as she should, but why does it bother me?Maybe it wasn't exactly her words but the indifference in her eyes.I felt another presence. Someone else entered the hall. An Omega - a messenger or envoy."Greetings, Your Majesty. I come bearing news from my Alpha. Lord Gregory," he announced with a cracked voice.I didn't ask him what it wa
Lunette's POVWe both stared at each other. His eyes were bloodshot, and his nose flared. I could tell he wanted to speak so badly, but he stayed silent.I couldn't tell if it was because the words weren't forthcoming or if his voice failed him.My face remained blank even though my heart was beating frantically. I couldn't ruin the satisfaction of seeing him shocked by breaking down or giving in.And I wasn't done with him.I took slow strides towards him. With every step that I took, the weight of his gaze intensified. My legs threatened to give out, but I steadied myself. It was the least I could do.Even though it would be just this once, I desperately wanted to defeat him.He has warriors ready to fight on his behalf. Warriors who were willing to give up their lives for him, but I'm different.I was alone in this den filled with monsters and predators, but it wouldn't make my death less painful or merciful if I surrendered easily. His hot breath fanned my face as I finally stood
Kaleth's POVZade dismissed the guard and rushed towards me. His eyes held a mix of confusion and guilt."Speak!" I commanded with a cold voice. What was the worst that could happen?"She wasn't poisoned," Zade said.My heart skipped a beat, but I maintained an emotionless face. I knew exactly whom he was referring to.But what I didn't understand was his saying she wasn't poisoned. So what could have happened to her? Her body was covered with huge rashes, her face became swollen, and her pulse was extremely slow. When I saw her like that, she was so close to dying. And now, she wasn't poisoned? As if he heard my questions, Zade urged me to move away from the rest, and I did. "I'm listening," I said as my arms shifted back to human form.I took out the white handkerchief from my pocket and started wiping off the blood that had begun to dry."According to the doctor, what she had was an allergic reaction. A severe one that could have killed her, though." Zade added.I blinked slowly as
Kaleth's POV"Drag them out!" Zade barked as their screaming tore through the air. My fists clenched and unclenched as I tried to keep calm.I fixed my gaze on them as the guards dragged them towards me. Calmly, I sat on my golden throne and watched their every move."Walk faster!"Soon they fell before my feet. Weeping and pleading, but it did nothing to move me. It seemed that they had forgotten how TO deal with betrayers. And I had plenty of time to remind them just how deeply my hatred could run."Please... Please, Your Majesty..." One of them cried, continuously hitting her forehead on the marble floor. My gaze shifted to the silver dagger that I kept on the side table beside my chair. Slowly, I picked it up."Who served my wife?" I asked in a low voice.Instead of answers, all I got was heavy breathing and sniffling. The veins in my hands popped."His Majesty asked a question," Zade said."I..." One of them started, but I didn't allow her to continue before signalling for her to
Lunette's POV"Enjoy your meal, My Lady," the maids bowed, and I flashed them a small smile. I watched silently as they closed the door behind them. The fake smile slowly disappeared from my face. There was nobody to impress or pretend for. Now I was battling with my thoughts.I sighed and looked down at the plate of food in my hands. My heart pounded against my chest.Fear flashed through my eyes, but I wasn't backing down. Since my life has become a joke, a pawn in someone's game, I might as well take some risks too.I took a slice from the plate. The more I brought it closer to my mouth, the more a heavy weight rested in the pit of my stomach."What the hell are you doing?" Makari suddenly yelled in my head, startling me.I rolled my eyes. Why did she have to interfere? I was so close to finishing it. It took me a lot of courage, and now she just ruined it all."Has it come to this now, Lunette?" She hissed.I gritted my teeth and blinked. "Don't you dare play the innocent card, Ma
Lunette's POVI groaned and buried my face in the pillow, hunching my back as pain shot through my body. It's been four days since I returned here and since I last saw them. Everyday they knock on my door, urging me to at least eat something.I have religiously followed one routine. Cry. Think. Sle
Lunette POVI opened my eyes and looked around. I was in a strange room. What happened last night? How did I get hereA white duvet covered me and I was alone in the room. Slowly, I raised it and realized I was naked.I screamed loudly but my hands were quick to cover my mouth. Did I really....I s
Lunette's PovThe noise and people faded into the background. Millions of thoughts spiraled in my head. But one thing was clear. I want him.Too bad, he looked away as if someone walked in and distracted him.My forehead creased into a deep frown as I realized I was surrounded by men I didn't want.
Lunette's PovI sat on the stool with a towel wrapped around my body. I applied lotion on my body and it was time for make-up.I decided to go with a dark feminine make up. I grew up with rules to follow. Constantly being cautious even when it wasn't necessary, but that changes now. It's time to be
